Agalloch members' new projects

2016-09-20 by bnelso55 | 33 Comments
Following the sudden, multicausal collapse of the acclaimed atmospheric metal act Agalloch in May 2016, the band’s former mastermind, John Haughm, has disclosed that he will continue pursuing his dark metal vision under a new banner.

Joining forces with Maestus Multi-instrumentalist Stephen Parker and Uada Drummer Trevor Matthews, the recently-formed Pillorian plans to record new music during the fall and winter of 2016 and release their debut album through Eisenwald Records in early 2017.

According to a press release, the band will explore the context of obscurity and cull inspiration from somber blackened metal, dark folk, and avant-garde music.

The announcement arrives only a few weeks after Agalloch’s remaining members, Don Anderson, Jason William Walton, and Aesop Dekker, revealed that they have formed the new band Khôrada with Aaron John Gregory, guitarist-vocalist of the now defunct progressive, doom-rock outfit Giant Squid.

Khôrada’s debut is also taking shape with new music that Gregory has previously called chill-inducing, “incredibly powerful and monstrously heavy”.

hopefully this ends up being a blessing in disguise and both projects are incredible.

aesop tends to have his hand in excellent things, so i have high hopes for khorada at a minimum

Yeah, Agalloch haven't even come close to topping or even reaching the heights of Ashes.

The news does sound promising. Like Essence said, hopefully their break-up proves to be a positive thing in the long run.

all agalloch releases are solid bar their last one. Hopefully these projects have given them a rejunivated passion and sense of creativity that was lacking from Serpent, will definitely be watching these projects like a vulture

Wasn't that a major motion picture?

I knew that the world wouldn't take Agalloch away from me without giving me something in return. Holy shit this is going to rule.

i'm wary, i don't think either band will be any good. agalloch was one of those "more than the sum of their individual parts" kind of bands and what we have here is just the individual parts

crysis, both don and aesop have been in other excellent bands, i think it's too easy to look at agalloch and say it's a sum and ignore the hard work their members did on the side
