neat-o, these guys are good
| | | slays
| | | Basically: rules
The ending of Immortals sounds like something deafheaven would do, and immediately afterward "I'm Sorry, This Is" reminds of "Please Remember" but actually worthwhile as an interlude track.
| | | will of course jam the shit out of this later
| | | Fuckin hell Richmond is a trip but I guess I'm going. Besides, Hardywood is a pretty nice brewery.
| | | awesome shit
| | | psyched to jam this later
| | | ugh it's so good
| | | Loving this
Getting something of an amalgamation of Deafheaven and Envy, with leaps and bounds more ferocity
| | | it's like deafheaven plus 10x more emotion and 10x more bite
and i fucking love deafheaven
| | | Sweeeeeet, definitely gonna check this
| | | not exactly what I hoped for after Eros but it's so well done
| | | these Deafheaven comparisons are really killing my hype
| | | Love it.
| | | Oathbreaker>deafhaven so stop it
| | | If we're really going to bring Deafheaven into the conversation, this trashes New Bermuda. Every moment is necessary, vocals are intense and emotional, and the production is perfect. This is one of the best heavy records of the year for sure
| | | Aw wtf link's busted >:[
Well it's not working for me anyway...
| | | add a colon dude
| | | "If we're really going to bring Deafheaven into the conversation, this trashes New Bermuda. Every moment is necessary, vocals are intense and emotional, and the production is perfect. This is one of the best heavy records of the year for sure" [2]
This exactly, especially about how every moment is necessary and the vocals being intense and emotional
| | | Got it by copy-pasting the link text...? W/e time to jam
| | | Only thing is that I just slightly wish that they kept some of the hardcore/d-beat stuff from the last couple of records. But honestly that doesn't bother me too much, album is amazing and I can always listen to Eros|Anteros if I want that.
| | | fixed link
| | | Hyyyype
| | | this year's music took my virginity
| | | So good. And enough with the Deafheaven comparisons. This is far more interesting and unique.
| | | Gonna jam this tomorrow.
| | | let's hope the offkey overperformed vocals don't get grating by the end of the album
the short clean breaks in eros were so refreshing and so perfectly placed
| | | ok I've been in a weird mood today but I'm going to be the dissenting opinion here... I can't stand this album so far
the acoustic track was nice but literally every other track feels like it flows like crap and the vocals can be grating and many of the transitions don't seem to make sense and it seems excessively stop-starty as a whole
these aren't the most fair criticisms since it's just a first impression and most of the songs have a lot of different sections to them, so saying they're structureless is just not fair yet but I'm worried I won't end up digging this release much at all which is a shame because I loveeeedddd eros anteros.
and now I just got to immortals and I forgot how much I loved the pitch shifter on this song
| | | the album's so good i want to lay on the floor, look into nowhere and watch everything fade to gray
i mean really this record is great
| | | AOTY
| | | i just want to see the end of second son of r live
that's all i'm asking
| | | Can't wait to see them play these songs
| | | Rules
| | | They upped their game considerably here. Been a fan of Oathbreaker for a while without ever being massively into them. This surpasses everything theyve done for me.
| | | what's ppl's favourite song(s) off this
| | | im glad I didnt sleep on this.
| | | this is pretty sweet, just sounds like deafheaven with a chick vocalist though
| | | I *really* don't like her standard clean singing. It doesn't sound like she's a very strong vocalist (she seems to waver off-key quite a bit). She also has this sort of wavering quality that's kind of annoying to me.
Nonetheless, she sounds great screaming, but the clean vocals are pretty jarring to me as it stands. Perhaps they'll grow on me.
| | | i really do not see the deafheaven comparison other than the please remember one on the interlude track
| | | if people keep comparing this to Deafheaven I'm cancelling my pre-order
I mean not really but it's still killing my hype
| | | I don't get the deafheaven comparisons. Honestly this is just an oathbreaker record with all the elements of their previous records blown to the extreme
disappointing to me tbh but I can see why people who don't find the clean singing unbearable and the record on the whole being tryhard af would like it
| | | Negative Nancy over here, sheesh
| | | i like how raw the cleans are tbh and don't see how trying to capture raw emotion on record is try hard at all
| | | Prefer to listen to bands who try hard, ta
| | | Aside from some stuff like the ending of Immortals (which is more shoegazy than post-bm), they're not reeeeeally comparable to deafheaven in a true sense. They just use some simple tremolo riffs with a really clean tone that automatically reminds of post-bm, and deafheaven are the goto for generic comparisons to that style. I'd place this album much closer to Bosse-de-Nage than deafheaven given the excited drumming, lack of influence on blast beats, and weird post-whatever experimental sections. But even that's kinda pointless.
| | | they're def gonna be familiar-sounding to fans of said bands, but i wouldn't accuse them of being too derivative at all tbh
| | | Really agree with the last two comments, this is hardly derivative. Also not try hard at all, dunno how one would come to that conclusion
| | | Easily one of the best albums of the year. All of these Deafheaven comparisons would have killed my boner had all of the prerelease tracks not been 10/10's. Anyone worried about this album being compared to shitty bands should just ignore the comparisons.
| | | Well Deafheaven wasn't really shitty until New Bermuda tbh although my hype for the band has waned considerably since I first started listening to them. Their first two albums are still great though, hopefully the next one is a return to form.
But yea, Oathbreaker does't make me think of Deafheaven at all really. They're in a league of their own for sure, can't wait to see them on Saturday.
| | | I like Deafheaven, or at least the Sunbather album, I just really don't want Oathbreaker to start sounding like them
| | | closing three tracks on this are stellar
also vocals, screams and cleans, rule
| | | Hellscythe have you listened to the album yet?
| | | nope, pre-ordered it through Amazon so I won't get it till Friday and I'm not gonna listen to the stream.
| | | Shit dude should've ordered from Deathwish. But honestly, don't let the comparisons get you down. It's pretty stellar.
| | | "But yea, Oathbreaker does't make me think of Deafheaven at all really. They're in a league of their own for sure, can't wait to see them on Saturday."
I think Deafheaven is horrible across every album so the comparisons are insulting from my POV. Oathbreaker is killer live, so have fun ;)
| | | Horrible seems a bit harsh lol, to each his I guess though. Probably just going to see Oathbreaker and then leave, not really interested in seeing Iron Reagan or Skeletonwitch
| | | Horrible was pretty harsh lol but I still think they're consistently a 2.5-3 band, so average would have been better but what can ya do
Yeah, that lineup is a bit iffy. Last time I saw 'em, they played with Cult Leader so that was rad. Iron Reagan has Ryan Parrish at least.
| | | 3.3-4.2 band moar liek
| | | 4.5 - 4.5 band obvs
| | | mfw I read that oathbreaker play in my 125 k city on sputnik
| | | Can't stop bumping this
| | | So this is totally worth checking yes?
| | | Yes, listen now.
| | | Check ALL the tracks!
| | | I know this might sound like an odd description, but I feel like this record, in a couple of ways, is imperfection perfected. Vocals for the most part but you'd be hard pressed to find a more raw and honest album this year
| | | I feel like the raw vocal style is more of a hearkening back to their punk roots, which sort of works for me.
