Album is really good, but nothing outside of their usual bag of tricks. A soft 4 for me at the moment after one thorough, invested listen.

Yeah it's doubtful that this will win a few new converts but I still love this. That being said, why is Bosses Hang and Anthem for No State separated into different parts?
| |
"Undoing A Luciferian Towers" — a subtle plaint that scribbles into the anthem for a nation of bombed-out skyscrapers — and split by the entr'acte "Fam_Famine," an anxious, addled crest built from rust-dust and dirt motes. Both pieces serve as Luciferian's connective tissue, and share a principal melody and momentum, like a giant lumbering over a forest."
Fucking listen to yourself. You're condemned to eternal bullshit.
| |
that's not even the most ridiculous part of the blurb. it references Adorno, for fuck's sake
| |
I couldn't get that far down dude, I was sick all over the place.
| |
just another godspeed album
| |
"just another godspeed album"
I have no problem with this. It sounds damn good so far.
| |
This band is so pretentious and shitty.
| |
oWo, a pretentious promotional blurb? that's a first
| |
Zak isn't wrong.
| |
This sounds like most godspeed.
| |
mehx50
| |
I want so badly to love their comeback albums but i just can't. They're dreadfully boring and reek of "been-there-done-that-but-done-it-better". Love their album artwork and titles tho
| |
They're dreadfully boring and reek of "been-there-done-that-but-done-it-better" [2]
| |
I try to like new Godspeed but it never works out
| |
Band has worse album art than Grimes tbh. And that ain't easy.
| |
dudes this album is way better than Asunder y'all are tripping
| |
the soundtrack to wanting to kill yourself from boredom
| |
haven't listened but 4/5 confirmed anyway
| |
another gy!be album [2]
still better than F#A#
| |
you know an album effectively conveys meaning when you have to spell it out with an accompanying blurb
| |
lol p much
| |
write-up is fucking DIRE
| |
despite taking the piss out of the NPR blurb, i'm actually really digging this album as well as the write-up on Bandcamp (which i assume is basically the liner notes)
| |
more like, still better than skinny fists
| |
"you know an album effectively conveys meaning when you have to spell it out with an accompanying blurb"
got 'em
| |
yeah this is about as tepid as i knew it would be
| |
at least you went into it with an open mind
| |
well it met my expectations so i guess I'm satisfied?
| |
it's not a bad record
i just don't know what to look for in this band anymore. there's so little to differentiate their work
| |
their music just doesn't stay with me at all. i can remember what "the dead flag blues" sounds like and some of the sporadic spoken word bits but the rest of their discog is a total haze.
| |
F#A# is the only one I've ever wanted to come back to
| |
i like skinny fists every once in a while; really love the coney island spoken word section of sleep and the other tracks provide some pleasant zoning-out music. but F#A# is the only record that I would set aside for intentional listening i think. glad other people get more out of it tho
| |
i've got f#a# on my ipod for when the world ends but i probably won't listen to it before then
| |
Does this bang
| |
At least Asunder had Piss Crowns
This is "meh" all over it
| |
So they're just picking up where Asunder left off? Was expecting a big shift in direction based on the mind-blowing untitled tracks they've been playing live.
-edit-
Holy shit, nvm. Bosses Hang...
| |
another prolonged masturbation session from the great white north.. yay
| |
yawn worthy
| |
whats up with Godspeed chopping up their songs like that
| |
their tracks have always contained multiple named movements, so for this I guess they just decided to make each movement into its own separate track.
| |
This is like the one time I was hoping for a lame article title
God-stream You! Black Emperor? Anyone? ...no?
| |
definitely never do that
| |
this is subtly stylistically different for godspeed like Bosses Hang pt III has instrumental harmonies and one part that reminds me of Coldplay wth is happening
| |
Better than Asunder but less compelling than Allelujah
| |
Maybe. But at least the drone is better this time. Violins everywhere are a good thing.
| |
I like how subtly different this is for them. The "drone" tracks are more cohesive as songs and complement each other super well, and I like the main movements. I need to listen a few more times, this definitely isn't as immediate as Allelujah or Asunder, but it riffs hard and when it climaxes it does so with the grace of a band who knows how to wrestle the most out of a tired genre.
| |
> but it riffs hard and when it climaxes it does so with the grace of a band who knows how to wrestle the most out of a tired genre.
Beautiful sentence.
| |
sweet jammin' hard
| |
just get another hobby guys of GY!BE, you proofed it often enough that you can bore the shit out of me, move on, maybe painting is your thing or join a cooking reality show...it cannot get any worse than this.
| |
They need to make long, epic albums again I think. They're starting to close in on being just a Swans Lite, or Kayo Dot Lite. Commute to work isn't long enough to listen to The Seer? Throw the new Godspeed on. I'd like more of the voice samples and varied narrative styles to come back.
| |
Oh so we're hating on Godspeed you now? cool.
| |
well I mean this album is extremely ho hum for them. nothing really happens at all...45 minutes just flew by and I got next to nothing out of this
| |
"another gy!be album [2]
still better than F#A#"
pardon me
| |
It's a good thing no one cared enough to try to bore you Rust.
| |
"you proofed it often enough that you can bore the shit out of me"
and you "proofed" that you're kinda dumb. don't continue to listen to things that bore you and you'll be a lot happier.
| |
gonna listen to the other half when it comes out.. for now it seems ok
| |
I quite enjoyed it. Gave it a few spins already.
