Why I have to care for a band that asks her groupies to get on stage and show their tits?.
| |
never really heard them but i'd assume their lyrics are more raunchy than 'pussy melter.'
| |
I'll probably get a burning for saying it, but the internet needs to get a grip. I've never really liked the band, but their humour is summed up entirely by this pedal. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Simple. It just seems every company shits its pants when a little negativity washes their way, where they immediately follow up with a big apology.
I totally get where females are coming from, but in the context of the band, this pedal is tame compared to what they've done/said already.
| |
Oh seriously? Go fuck yourselves, everyone protesting a band that you clearly don't listen to (if you did, then this of all things would not offend you). This has been their style of comedy since forever. I personally find it hilarious, but even if you don't, if you can't at least tell that it's obviously supposed to be goofy, over the top humor this then there is no helping you. This is tame for them.
Also, can't wait to see them live this fall.
| |
A lot of people get offended these days by anything. It's becoming a trend IMO. There are actual issues on which people should turn their attention to, not a pedal named "pussy melter".
| |
What insomniac said.
| |
Agreed insomniac. One of the things I miss from the pre-internet days is not being exposed to this sensitive bullshit
| |
Yep. Any idiot can brainwash others with some crazy shit on the internet now.
| |
"Steel Panther is offensive" lmfao I still can't get over how stupid this shit is
| |
I just amazed that in 2018 a hard rock band still has the ability to offend pearl-clutching, thin-skinned, over-sensitive jackasses.
| |
ugh thats the whole joke you fucking retards.
| |
So, has the woman who started the petition ever fucking heard of Steel Panther?? Not that I really give a shit about SP but this is just stupid.
| |
"It will still melt your pussy, ladies"- and then Fennelly swooned from the sheer heat of the offensiveness
| |
This proves why things like satire and standup comedy are given a long leash. If you take it that seriously you're already off the mark, I don't think this represents or contributes to actual misogyny at all.
| |
NO SHARK I THINK THIS IS WHAT THEY ACTUALLY THINK
| |
Oh my God who the hell cares.
| |
how long has the Big Muff fuzz pedal been around for?
| |
Big Muff has been around since the 60s or 70s, I believe
| |
well then, isnt it about time we got OUTRAGED about its name?
| |
What about Flying Vs? And Kyle Gass' double leg (neck) guitar from the Pick of Destiny?
Seriously though, my dream the all-offensive rig right now would be a Flying V (or maybe a BC Rich Bich) through a Big Muff and Pussy Melter. What sort of amp would go with that?
| |
well this thread looks exactly like i expected it to
| |
Lol what? Were you expecting us to say "Oh no, Steel Panther? How dare they!"
| |
looks exactly like it should.
| |
TBH, I haven't been amused by Steel Panther's schtick in a long while and I think TC Electronics went way over the top with this toneprint description and kind of deserve the backlash.
But to come at it from the "OMG THIS IS 2018 HOW DARE THEY?!" angle is pretty silly too. Not to mention how this is serving as some serious viral marketing for TC Electronics and the Pussy-Melter.
| |
LMAO all these whiny-ass bitches. Regardless of your opinion of the band, their whole gimmick is being a pastiche of over-the-top misogynistic sleaze rock. I hope the pedal sells like crazy.
| |
I really expected better from the writers of "Fat Girl" "Poontang Boomerang" and "Asian Hooker".
| |
It's fine that this band has their audience but damn they sprint away from anything resembling comedy. All this is fine by me.
| |
"he had only one condition: that the tone be as wet as the ladies on the front row"
How is this offensive?
| |
I knew this gimmick would come and bite them in the ass eventually
| |
Must be great being Steel Panther in 2018
| |
Overall pretty cringey
But not worth starting a petition over lol
I find this style of comedy extremely juvenile
| |
haha this is fuckin hilarious
| |
Can you still buy the original anywhere? Collector's item now.
| |
retroactively sue every glam metal band
| |
"How is this offensive?"
It's factually hyperbolic to an offensive degree
hue hue hue hue hue
| |
this is one of the dumbest things to ever happen
I'm usually all for feminism but this is clearly just the result of people being desperate for attention
| |
It's a shame that jokes aren't allowed anymore. RIP comedy. It was a fun ride while it lasted.
| |
I’m working overtime with TC Electronics to re-release the “pussy melter” tone print under the less offensive, more politically correct name of the “Butthole Burner“
Haha, this made my day. Best reply to this kindergarden pseudo offendedness.
| |
hmmm...I'm in the market for a new delay
| |
gotta practice dirty talk somehow, why not with steel panther
| |
definitely not a big deal
| |
How can you not see that it's all a ridicolous shtick?
It's literally a parody of 70's/80's glam
| |
this is such a nontroversy
| |
Didn't expect to see momentsofclarity making a comeback in this thread. Couldn't agree more with his comment.
| |
Its interesting that people lash out at them now despite not being the height of their popularity. Perhaps the Think of the children crowd only attack them at this moment, knowing there will be less of a backlash.
| |
"How can you not see that it's all a ridicolous shtick?
It's literally a parody of 70's/80's glam"
They're fully aware of that, to them the satire is offensive though.
| |
To be fair, their ironic glam act is quite unironic in some ways
| |
I don't so much mind the overblown outrage over harmless jokes as I do the capitulation on behalf of these companies. No one who was actually going to buy a pedal from them is going to change their mind or change it back because they removed the "pussy melter" from their page.
| |
This feels like someone JUST NOW saying that they are offended by South Park.
| |
^^^
| |
To be fair, their ironic glam act is quite unironic in some ways [2]
From briefly being introduced to Steel Panther on youtube I couldn't deduce that they were a comedy band, dodged the irony. I just thought they were another glam metal band. There's still a fair few glam metal bands out there who still try to live the lifestyle and basically do the exact same shit Steel Panther is saying they parody, or worse. Guess they need to step up their irony game.
| |
@Laen - Not to be a dick, but you'd have to really not be paying attention to not realize that Steel Panther is a comedy band with those song titles and lyrics, dude.
@Bloon - I dunno, I mean it's definitely ridiculous but it makes me laugh. Most of my friends that are girls also find them hilarious and we play them at parties all the time.
| |
I can't even feel bad for these guys because of how shit they are
| |
"I’m working overtime with TC Electronics to re-release the “pussy melter” tone print under the less offensive, more politically correct name of the “Butthole Burner”. Don’t worry- it will still melt your pussy, ladies."
Lmao
| |
@DarkSide, was about to say exactly that
| |
What can I get offended by today?
| |
why do people all of a sudden care about dumb shit like this who the fuck cares
| |
@Aiwaz- yeah apparently people are actually this fucking stupid
| |
the pedal is far less offensive than Steel Panther’s musical output
| |
i'm a big fan of context myself
| |
Nice guys. Met them at my work. Gave me tickets to see them and Stone Sour. What's wrong with sexuality? It's been the driving force and selling point in the world dor decades
| |
Oooh we have a reason to start the phrase free the pussy melter now
| |
#freethepussymelter
Can PC culture just die off already? Seriously, I'd love to go back to a time where everyone wasn't offended by everything.
| |
Honestly I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss it when the Conservatives were the PC police. At least then the media would take our side.
| |
Oh no the womz have taken my free speech. Down with feminazis! Killing masculinity! Nothin is sacred!
| |
This entire episode just shows you how obnoxious everybody on both sides of the argument is. Make Love not war you dicks and pussies.

nah fuck you
WAR WAR WAR

Thread is as AIDS as this whole situation
| |
Article ain't even accurate. This tone print came out years ago before tc was acquired
| |
^
eh
| |
why would anyone want to call a pedal after animal abuse anyway?
| |
apparently they are re-naming the pedal to the butthole burner. fking lol
| |
i find this thread offensive
| |
please remove the 666 from your name. it offends my christian beliefs
| |
If you remove "Big" from you username cuz it offends my small penis
| |
please remove your small penis as it offends my micro penis
| |
The outrage culture has really come quite a ways. Do these people getting offended about this pedal not remember the 90's when Tipper Gore was trying to censor music and conservatives and Christians in droves were protesting the likes of Marilyn Manson and other acts? Yes the pedal is in bad taste, it's also completely tongue in cheek and created for a band that is a complete satirical representation of the 80's hair/glam metal scene. Bill Maher, far left progressive Liberal comedian, would tell those who are triggered from this to stfu.
| |
set phasers to rape
| |
It's been a trope in music for God knows how long that girls love men who play guitars, they find it sexy and that's a reason why lots of dudes start bands. "Pussy Melter" is literally just a gag on that trope, are we supposed to pretend that that trope doesn't exist? And the whole phrase is just saying that it'll turn women on, it's not like it's saying they're going to be gang raped or date raped or anything. For fucks sake the women on the left proudly wear pussy hats so it's not like they're offended by the use of the word, I guess as long as they don't think it's a sexualization of them. But if we truly have respect for women, shouldn't we not treat them as children then, afraid of offending them, and instead take off the kid gloves and expect them to be able to take what is clearly a gag joke. If anything I think it's sexist to assume women are so sensitive and thin skinned that they can't handle a joke.
There are still countless other facets of this incident that just keeps making this whole thing absolutely silly.
| |
fuck this shitty earth and all the idiots that get offended by literally nothing
| |
I think this whole movement that has arisen to protest everything and anything that we disagree with is really driving a wedge in our society. In my family alone everyone has disagreements on issues ranging from abortion, guns, health care, religion, all the big hitters. Am I supposed to disown someone who doesn't view an issue the exact same way I do? Some of the responses on reddit to this pedal yesterday was downright scary, to the point where anyone pointing out how some may not find the pedal offensive, the context of the fact this is a satirical 80's hair/glam metal band or how it was a niche product for a target audience that is almost entirely men was told how they were a sexist misogynist pig and how dare you tell women to not be offended. Scary times.
| |
life must be great if the main thing that has you angry/worried is a fking guitar pedal
| |
I think it's a terrible remedy of our culture nowadays. Everyone's always had political beliefs and affiliations, but for many of my friends who are either progressive/liberal or conservative it's become a religion. Reading a bible has been replaced by reading articles that re-enforce their world view and "sharing" it on social media to "educate" others, and instead of attending church on Sundays well you have to go rally and protest now over any and all small things that happen in your area that you must object to! It's really scary how few of the younger people I know are actually willing to have a political conversation with someone they disagree with, to honestly hear them out and not be triggered in the process. Everyone thought Christian conservatives in the 90's were wack for protesting and being so intolerent, why is it all of a sudden okay for liberal progressives to be the arbiters of moral authority?
| |
JWT is speaking too much sense.
| |
“STEEL PANTHER is an American comedic glam metal band from Los Angeles, California, mostly known for their profane and humorous lyrics, as well as their exaggerated on-stage personae that reenact the stereotypical 1980s 'glam metal' lifestyle (”
Does anyone else find it ridiculously depressing that the joke has to be explained? I mean if you’re actually taking a pedal called the “pussy melter” seriously then you’re not offended, you’re just dumb.
| |
Doesn't matter man! Jokes have been keeping women down in the patriarchy for millennia but not anymore!
The sad part is that there is more progress to be made and real misogyny happening around the world, yet a guitar pedal is truly what is holding women back.
| |
JWT is on fire, makes me wish I could "like" comments on sputnik
Yes to everything you said
| |
Yeah normally I’m on the other side of stuff but this band has been doing this offensive on purpose misogynist parody thing for years. I’m not sure why anyone would take it seriously unless they were not aware of the joke. Even if they don’t find it funny it’s just so overblown and obviously not serious.
| |
Haha thanks man. I tend to lean conservative on some issues but I watch Bill Maher, CNN, MSNBC regularly so I'd like to think I'm well in tune and moderate on a lot of issues. The US and the world as a whole is making so much progress, more needs to be done, but stupid shit like this and constantly looking for enemies to but a bulls eye on is really just going to undo a lot of quality progress and it's just going to rile up, recruit, and justify those who have radical and actual sexist/misogynistic views. Sure, putting pussy in a name without context can seem offensive, but so could making a fucking musical idolizing and praising Hitler and the Third Reich, I guess we should all get triggered at Mel Brooks now for being pro Nazi.
| |
"I think this whole movement that has arisen to protest everything and anything that we disagree with is really driving a wedge in our society"
this is what happens when you have a generation of kids raised on the internet where they aren't taught about real life but only stupid fucking memes and youtube/instagram retards
everyone follows the stupid shit that's trending and don't think for themselves. they join social movements that they forget about in two seconds and feign outrage at every single thing to make themselves feel like they are morally superior to everyone else
no one has a filter, and the mere disagreement with someone makes them an *insert bad person label here*, dumbing down the meaning of those words and taking stock away from actual cases of abuse. also throwing around those labels can ruin someone's life unjustly, but internet morons don't care because they're behind a screen
it's just annoying. it's like everyone these days just WANTS to be miserable, it wears itself out and makes me just want to disassociate myself with everything online
| |
Agreed with everything you said MO.
And the greatest irony is that many try to claim they're more welcoming and accepting of all people, more than anyone else! But if you don't think and understand how a woman can feel threatened and offended by a guitar pedal named "Pussy Melter" and just how unacceptable it is to view this one small minuscule issue, well then you're going to be blocked on all platforms and ostracized because we do not associate ourselves with sexist misogynistic pigs......
| |
exactly
it's like, this is part of steel panther's shtick, it's they're art. you're telling me you won't allow the separation between art and real life anymore? they always have to be linked?
fuck that shit
| |
I guess you could say TC Electronics are...backPEDALing...
| |
OOOHHHH got em
| |
Even if he initially said that this was in "poor taste", Anthony Fantano does come up with a great point on this. Sexism seems to be way more of an issue in the top 40 than it does with satirical guitar pedal names. That's not saying all top 40 artists have creepily sexual content; in fact, some artists push for opposite trends. However, it's a better topical issue to take to task instead of a comical band and scene that has lost a lot of its creepiness by now.
| |
Precisely, Steel Panther is a parody band that is blatantly making fun and extrapolating the sexual nature of 80's hair metal which is essentially a dead genre now. There's currently of plenty top 40 songs and genres in hip hop that are glorifying far more gruesome and sexist ideas and it isn't even satire, it's glorified by fan bases and critics.
| |
this just in people who kick up a fuss about the smallest, most ridiculous shit are complete hypocrites
| |
imagine some poor kid in a 3rd world country struggling to feed himself turning on our news and reading about how everyone is outraged over a guitar pedal.... how everyones enegry is going into "solving" these pathetic non-issues
| |
Remember everyone, if the worst thing in your life is something that you see on the internet, you don't have a bad life.
| |
this is such a dumb controversy
| |
Honestly it cant be more than one or two people upset over this and trying to cause an issue becaymuse there hopefully isnt that many dumbasses out there...but why am i hoping for something when i know the truth
| |
Check out the r/indieheads subreddit article, the amount of brainwashed idiots who are appalled by this guitar pedal name is astounding. It's just one giant echo chamber lead by a mod there who thinks women are actively being persecuted on a massive scale in the music industry from all levels and has made it her crusade to make things "fair"
| |
Ugh. Yeah make things fair from a keyboard. Fucking idiots.
| |
"r/indieheads"
Literally the most cancerous subreddit title ive ever seen
| |
The fact that they're offended at STEEL PANTHER for being misogynistic is a whole other level of retard
| |
Emotions are for pussies, all you need in life is garlic bread
| |
You can can try to suppress the soyboy inside but you can't run forever snide
| |
Keep your hipster feelings away from me!
| |
They should try selling it in my city, soyboy capital of Aus
| |
It is official. You cannot joke about anything coz someone will be ''offended''
| |
unleash the cunt blaster
| |
Steel Panther is so outrageously over the top with their lyrics, that it practically loops around, and highlights how stupid sexism is to begin with. At this point, they're positively contributing to all the women's right stuff.
| |
I have a new found respect for SP. LOL
| |
These people have got way too much free time on their hands if the name of a guitar pedal sends them into a blistering rage to such a laughable extent that they create a petition to have it pulled from the market.
| |
Glad to see most everyone here realizes how ridiculous this is.
Anyone that signs that petition is a fucking idiot.
| |
Pedal name's in poor taste but if it really bothers you, get a life.
| |
The band is a raunchy and over the top caricature of 80's hair metal, the name fits their brand of humor and parody perfectly. Immature and irreverent? Absolutely, but that's the whole point.
| |
Maybe this was the intention from the very beginning, to melt the pussies with rage instead.
| |
It's a bit shocking that it took this long for one of these "militant lesbian feminist" (as Satchel called them) to get offended by something this band has done.
| |
I'm a proud liberal hippie soyboy, but I'm not especially offended by the pedal. It's tasteless and not especially funny, but I don't think it's worthy of this backlash. With that being said, Steel Panther is an unfathomably terrible band and I'm tired of hearing about them. This controversy is likely gonna give them more exposure anyway, and I'm sure this won't bother the horde of sex-offenders-in-training that continue to buy their music.
| |
gotta love middle class outrage when you've become so distant from the realities of those who are actually oppressed and downtrodden that this becomes an issue
| |
but shit band anyway so can't say i care too much

Decent response that, whether you agree or disagree
| |
Decent response, sure, but as she says, indie rock and mainstream pop are definitely dominated by women. Is it REALLY punching down to make a joke about pussy-lubricating delay? And thanks, white lady, for coming to the defense of Asian hookers who don't really give a shit about Steel Panther's juvenile humour.
| |
Didn't you know? The best voice for the under represented minorities in this country are upper-middle class white women who have enough free time to piss and moan on Twitter for 40 hours a week. Silly goose.
| |
'indie rock and mainstream pop are definitely dominated by women'
Cmon guys you don't really believe this? Maybe you can argue women's representation in Pop is decent but Indie? Most bands are literally all guys. The presence of a woman in a mainstream indie band is still seen as more of a novelty than a norm
| |
I’m more offended this band still haven’t made enough money to quit yet
| |
I mean of all the things these guys do and say this is the one that caused a massive controversy
pls
| |
"Maybe you can argue women's representation in Pop is decent but Indie? Most bands are literally all guys. The presence of a woman in a mainstream indie band is still seen as more of a novelty than a norm"
It was literally an argument she herself was making. Read the response she posted. And do you know how much of a boom there has been in "female-fronted" bands? A huge one. You almost can't get a gig as a local indie band if you don't have a female-something.
| |
Looks like satchel has stuck it to the feminists and released the pedal as intended.
| |
Haha that's great
| |
Looks like it's actually a totally different pedal. I'm honestly a little confused.
| |
It's being built by a different manufacturer in the US because TC pulled the original.
| |
Hopefully Way Huge took over
| |
But the original wasn't even a pedal. It was a delay toneprint. This seems to be an actual physical fuzz pedal. Did Satchel already have this pedal coming out and because of the ruckus hastily rebranded it as the Pussy Melter?
| |
Good point, I think that one is still coming out under the "pc" name, perhaps you're right and this might've been something else that they're renaming. I have no idea though, on the face of it that seems plausible.
| |
