holy mother of god
|
| |
I love the production for this so so damn much
|
| |
who do you think needs who more? [guitar music plays]
haven't listened to anything else for the past hour.
|
| |
God damn. Fucking awesome.
|
| |
speaking as if you're the majority lmao
|
| |
monotonous
|
| |
so fucking excited, I feel like I've waited forrrever. band is GOAT.
|
| |
woah did not expect those vox. cool track. loving the sludgier tones.
|
| |
Holy shit I am dying, this is the greatest day I’ve had in a while
Can’t tell if I’m hearing Anthony Green or not, at the Q&A he hinted that he did a collab with mwy when I asked if he planned to do any collabs with other Philly bands.
|
| |
that would be killer if he did
|
| |
AOTY inbound
|
| |
It’s a little hard to tell because Greg is back in the band and has a higher register as well. Either way THIS SONG IS AMAZING
|
| |
"it's so amusing, the same people that praised the new foxing album are loving this, i think we found a new caste of people who can't be trusted"
*sips tea*
|
| |
yep this is awesome as hell
looking forward to putting this upcoming album as my aoty
|
| |
Sounds like we'll get an album announcement on Wednesday if you check out their site. So pumped for this.
|
| |
guess ill need to check the new foxing too
|
| |
Why does Will Yip have to ruin all my favorite bands ugh. Screams are completely inaudible.
|
| |
thanks, I added that bit about the countdown to pre-orders
|
| |
Hidden text in the white space under the video on their website:
"On a West Virigina road I did just as I was told
And you smile but your vampire complexion still shows.
[don’t you think it’s time to take your fangs out of my mind?]
But Mary, don’t cry, please don’t you cry. Mary, please don’t you cry.
From what the rest of us could tell dad tried his best but finally fell...
And sometimes when its quiet my heart feels like Guernica.
Were you not forged in grief, avenging lions in the alabaster bas-relief?"
|
| |
Lucid why the hell would you cosign such a completely moronic comment you used to be better smh
|
| |
awesome totally would not have found that on my own
|
| |
I feel like this is going to be one of those cryptic releases with all kinds of surprises/hidden clues
love it
|
| |
I hope so, I am crazy hyped for this, already like this song more than most of Pale Horses tbh
|
| |
Haven't been this excited for a mewithoutyou album in a while
|
| |
so fucking good
that final minute and a half where Aaron brings in his harsh vox, yes please
|
| |
Arguably even more boring than anything off Pale Horses. An impressive feat. Still stoked for the record, I guess
Edit: After several listens, I fucking love this track. Guess it's a grower. Plus the new EP rules.
|
| |
Pale Horses had some of their best tracks ever (Red Cow/Dorothy, Rainbow Signs) as well as a few forgettable ones. I found the production a bit flat at first but it grew on me just as the record did, and now it's one of my favorite releases from them.
|
| |
pre-order announcement is Thursday at midnight (Fri 12am)....not wednesday
|
| |
yeah I picked up on that as well...still thrilled though, gonna give me something to look forward to all week.
|
| |
Good fucking shit
|
| |
also, unpopular opinion apparently...Mexican War Streets was the best song from Pale Horses
|
| |
Gonna let this grow on me for a bit but I'm feeling slightly underwhelmed rn
|
| |
Sorry for double posting but Pale Horses is easily their most underrated album and is probably the 3rd best in their discography.
|
| |
a perfectly respectable first impression
mwY has always been a grower band to me
it's gotten to the point that every album, I'm slightly disappointed first listen and then celebrating it as a classic within 6 months-1 year
|
| |
their most underrated is It's All Crazy
|
| |
I still can't get behind that one
Love a few songs but it just irks me...
brb gonna go make a list ranking their discog
|
| |
you better put brother sister at the top. dont ruin my day now
|
| |
calmrose ilu I've been preaching that It's All Crazy is their best basically since it came out and I've been basically alone. my rank is It's All Crazy > B,S > Foxes > Ten Stories > Pale Horses > A to B (but I definitely owe their two most recent ones a relisten)
But yeah this new one is fantastic. And that verse hidden on the website is magical. AOTY hype alert
|
| |
Amazing
|
| |
Mike just said on Instagram that there’s a new EP and a new LP
|
| |
link?
|
| |
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bmbfk1WnyF2/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=13tnzumgawfdg
|
| |
Holy shit haha, he had to have just edited the caption bc it doesn’t say it anymore but I swear to g-d it was there
|
| |
I was just about to say, am I blind? Hopefully it's true, not a typo, and he just didn't wanna leak the info.
|
| |
ya it’s a mwY thread lol
|
| |
if it's true I wonder what the point of an EP/LP simultaneous release would be
I guess it wouldn't have to be simultaneous though
Maybe an LP followed by an EP of offcuts or re-imaginings
|
| |
yeah it was there yo https://i.imgur.com/IWTBbte.png
|
| |
For sure - I mean, he definitely wrote it, so maybe he wasn't supposed to release that info yet. All Ricky said was that this was "the tip of the iceberg."
I remember reading or listening to an interview a while back where someone in the band said that they had enough material for a double-LP, so they were just figuring out what how they wanted to format all of the stuff they wrote.
|
| |
Holy shit Row you're the hero this site doesn't deserve
|
| |
yeah thanks for saving my ass on this thread lol.
|
| |
fuuuuu an LP and an EP?! Today is like Christmas. Except I don't get most of my presents till later
|
| |
Rowan I'm sure you won't care if I add that screen capture to add a bit of #conspiracy to this article
|
| |
This is the best day ever holy fuck
|
| |
mmmm tasty
|
| |
Damn I really dig this
|
| |
"so many ways to lose so many faiths"
and so it begins
|
| |
atmosphere on this song is incredible, hope the rest of the album follows the more somber/darker tone
|
| |
Band is definitely a grower for me too, but I'm ready to let this new one sink in
|
| |
SO HYPED
|
| |
god isnt real haha lol
|
| |
God isnt real haha lol.
|
| |
let us pray
|
| |
I’m not gonna overhype it, I’m just saying, aoty. Seriously though damn is this a good song, can’t wait to read the essay on the lyrics from genius.
|
| |
it's impossible for new mwY to not be overhyped for me. Kinda like Sowing had said, even if it's not immediate, I know it'll deeply resonate with me at some point
|
| |
fucking YES, this is fantastic
|
| |
I do kind of hope that a lot of the record isn't as necessarily shoegazey as this, but that's just me
|
| |
Wow, just, wow. Normally I'd say this is the best song since their magnum opus but since Pale Horses was amazing I'll just say it's their best song since Pale Horses!
|
| |
Haven't enjoyed much they've done since A-B life, but this song has a great atmosphere. Digging it
|
| |
Song is available for whatever price you see fit on bandcamp:
https://mewithoutyou.bandcamp.com/track/julia-or-holy-to-the-lord-on-the-bells-of-horses
|
| |
That bloodcurdling scream buried underneath layers and layers of guitar and static that comes in around 2:50 is just so unexpectedly effective. This is such a sludgy, murky, subtle little earworm.
|
| |
percent chance that hayley williams sings on the new album?
|
| |
0% tbh
|
| |
considering Weiss sang on After Laughter I wouldn't say it's out of the question
she already proved on Ten Stories that she can blend effortlessly with their sound
|
| |
I might be full of shit, but aren’t there some female vox blended somewhere in this track?
|
| |
first listen i liked it and then i pressed repeat and then i repressed repeat and then i pressed repeat and then i pressed repeat and then
|
| |
Yeah, first listen I was like "this is a gorgeous sound but I wish there was more of a hook.
Second listen - "nevermind."
|
| |
thank you jesus thank you tom cruise
|
| |
This isn't quite is stylistically distinct as some of their other stuff but they execute the song so well that it doesn't matter in the slightest. Hype is soaring.
|
| |
This track is outstanding. Absolutely stunned honestly, the ending is some of the best work they’ve output.
|
| |
Was kinda hoping the more typical Weiss delivery was gonna come in like a fucking hydrogen bomb, but the song is great and the restraint is kind of nice after a couple listens.
|
| |
I feel like if those screams just came in strong in the mix it would have been one of the greatest mwY moments. Interesting choice to bury them
|
| |
That lead guitar is gonna be stuck in my head till the album drops
|
| |
Great stuff
|
| |
Yep, loved this.
I'm in.
|
| |
This be my shit right hur. MY. SHIT.
|
| |
Aaron Weiss isn't a virgin anymore though, the band should be called mewithinYou
|
| |
Yeah that's the only thing I'm still not sure about. The artful restraint of the screams is kinda cool, but I can't imagine a scenario in which the song is hurt by Weiss delivering those lines full power. Kind of like how his entire contribution to "No Friend" was muffled; it's interesting at first but you end up wondering how incredible that track could have been. What do I know though. Excited to see how it fits into the LP or EP.
|
| |
i suspect Weiss' voice isn't what it once was and muffling it is a polite way of acknowledging that he just isn't capable of the same screams/yowls he once was that happens to pay dividends
|
| |
Could very well be. I'll be inclined to agree if this is how the screams are executed across the whole album. I'd be a little surprised though; mwY has seen some intense days but I don't know if they were enough to damage his voice.
|
| |
Idk, he sounded great at all ranges when I saw them last(?) winter and his harsher vocals were mint when he let go on PH. I’d lean more toward it being a stylistic choice, maybe making it a point to give us something a little less by the numbers (read: classic) when it was obviously ripe for the picking.
|
| |
this was a really nice surprise to wake up to yestserday
|
| |
Digging this. I chose a good time to start getting into these guys.
|
| |
i've listened to this thing like 8 times. so hype.
|
| |
yall fanboys are disgusting
|
| |
plaguebizzles here, what can I do for you?
|
| |
song keeps getting better and better
|
| |
excellent as always
|
| |
Song would be 10/10 if the screams were louder in the mix and the guitar solo didn’t have those weird out of key notes that clash with the melodic feel of the rest of the song. Hopefully the harsh vocals will be mixed normally in the other songs because it feels like such a waste.
|
| |
So, the rumblings are that mwY will release a free e.p. this Friday while announcing a release date for the upcoming record.
Stay hyped.
|
| |
Where are you hearing that
|
| |
Nothing definitive.
The band sent out this post this morning: https://i.imgur.com/6XojZ8C.jpg
Mike (a band member) initially stated this on his instagram before erasing the information soon after: https://i.imgur.com/bjg04ox.jpg
And this single is being released on a "name your own price" basis - different from what the band has done before. But if it's from the e.p.?
So add that all together and you get? Well, who knows, but that's the most exciting prediction.
|
| |
So it's more your prediction than actual rumblings but I dig it. I also agree that seems likely because the LP was slated for a Fall release, and it's still August.
|
| |
Haha, my definition of rumbling has always been more along the line of a rumor, and I've seen a few online fans speculate as such. But yeah, it's definitely just a prediction, but not without a little merit.
|
| |
yo if it's a free EP on Friday with an album release announcement, I'll lose my mind.
|
| |
my god these are a lot of comments. I thought Sputnik was dead.
|
| |
i don't know if it's voice damage so much as the vagaries and cruelties of age, though as many band beforehand have shown age has their consolations (see: a moon shaped pool, the national)
|
| |
Weiss is only 39 though :-/ I dunno, maybe I'm just in denial and holding out for more screams lol
|
| |
I think we'll get some prime and super impactful Aaron moments. Rainbow Signs wasn't THAT long ago -- I feel like there will be some well-placed classic vox, even if it's more like Blue Hen and less like Rainbow Signs
|
| |
Just to be clear though I love this song and it's already in my top 10 mwY songs
|
| |
not surprising in the least tbh
|
| |
Umm....This worry you all have about whether Aaron will still scream was put to bed months ago.
"On the sound of mewithoutYou’s nearly-complete forthcoming studio LP:
Mazzotta: “We finished a banger with [producer] Will Yip. It bangs! I’m pretty hyped on it. It took a long time to make, too. It took over a year… It’s still not 100% done, I’m going back into the studio the week we get home.”
M. Weiss: “It keeps getting heavier and heavier as things progress with it.”
Mazzotta: “It covers new heavy territory I don’t think we’ve never been in… [Frontman] Aaron [Weiss]’s taken a scream. And [there’s] instrumental territory that’s trippy, weird, stuff we never would have dreamed of doing…Trippy in a heavy sense, and a chill sense. The summation of our whole career is on this, and then some.”
And when it might come out:
Mazzotta: “I’d say [a fall release is] a pretty safe assumption. What it’s called, I’m not sure yet and I don’t know if I could tell you if I wanted to… I’m hoping for the fall.”
http://www.brooklynvegan.com/mewithoutyou-prepping-will-yip-produced-album-for-fall-release/
|
| |
Excellent. I forgot about that interview.
|
| |
Oh tight, people are still getting butthurt over opinions at sputnik.
On another note, I quite like this song. The boi Will Yip strikes again with that good good production.
|
| |
"it's so amusing, the same people that praised the new foxing album are loving this, i think we found a new caste of people who can't be trusted"
When I saw mewithoutyou, Foxing opened for them
|
| |
I saw that tour as well. Both bands were superb. One of the better shows I’ve seen and maybe my favorite performance by mwY.
|
| |
120 comments on a mwY news post. This is how I know I'm in the right community here.
|
| |
The hidden message on the site changed. I think each one so far has been a lyrical excerpt:
Ploughshares gone swords, we were the scourge of the earth.
So was the scene at al-Aqsa.
They could barely taste my pancreas that day.
Fire and the flood, there is power in the blood
With all the stars in the ground and Noah's ark in the clouds.
Have you ever felt like Noah on an overcast day?
|
| |
Hidden message from today:
"Watchmen w/ their eyes closed
you can leave me anytime.
But then what good would scripture be for?
You can pin and mount me likewise!
Peter ring them bells
for anyone with ears to hear?"
|
| |
"They could barely taste my pancreas that day."
wut
|
| |
that's what it said
I think they're just cycling through song lyrics that are on the upcoming album
|
| |
Prediction: not only is there a new EP tomorrow, but each song will be a name followed by a subtitle in parentheses, just like Julia. Each excerpt so far has had a name. Mary, Noah, Peter...all very biblical too.
|
| |
wouldn't be surprised considering they're a very 'spiritual' band (I know they don't associate with the Christian label)
|
| |
How u know dat
|
| |
they've stated it before in interviews...they don't like the baggage that comes with being called a christian band and since weiss studied all kinds of religions, they incorporate other religious texts and mantras as well - including islam
|
| |
i feel like they've mentioned it in podcasts/interviews. Aaron's religion has always been pretty ambiguous to me, and I feel the word 'spiritual' is more accurate.
|
| |
they shoehorn references to islam just so they're not labelled "christian rock"... one of my many pet peeves with this band
|
| |
guarantee that's not why they do it.
|
| |
i would say that we should expect lyrics about being a houseplant but looks like foxing beat them to that
|
| |
"they shoehorn references to islam just so they're not labelled "christian rock""
that's a pretty bold assertion considering Weiss was born to Sufi Muslim parents
|
| |
my favorite genre of comment is the “x thing about this band annoys me” and the person has no idea what they’re talking about
|
| |
Stoked for this - a Friday EP release with an LP announcement would make me jizz
|
| |
trying not to get my hopes up, but that's what the rumor mill has been churning out...
|
| |
"they shoehorn references to islam just so they're not labelled "christian rock""
As Sowing already alluded to, that is not a statement you would make if you understood the history of this band and the deep exploration of faith they've made throughout their albums. This song itself is a thoughtful meditation on the intersection of many faiths and the inability of all of them to fully attain an understanding of God. As someone who used to be a very devout Christian who for a long time struggled with faith, it's the devoutness, doubt and openness in Aaron's songwriting that makes his contemplation of the christian faith, and all of its western and eastern counterparts, striking, relatable and meaningful.

| |
https://itunes.apple.com/nz/album/untitled-e-p/1421011754
Ep can be previewed on itunes, after listening to them all sounds like the ep is much more stripped down and softer which probably means the album is heavier
|
| |
Oh shit!
|
| |
looks like your prediction is true, letsgofishing!
|
| |
HYPEEEEE
|
| |
Damn, so I won't be going to bed until at least 12:25 tonight. Great.
|
| |
I might be tempted to as well in case they pull some BN Science Fiction crap with limited vinyls
So awesome though that we'll be getting an EP tmrw and then an LP in the near future
Haven't been this hyped since, well, this time last year
|
| |
Haha. Accurate :'(
|
| |
"looks like your prediction is true, letsgofishing!"
Yeah, don't be doubting me. I don't spout shit. :p
|
| |
I only have to wait until 9pm my time — praise Jesus, Buddha, Allah, Nothingness
|
| |
7 hr 50 mins, boys
|
| |
New EP leaked
I'm actually gonna wait for once tho
|
| |
I probably will too
|
| |
So hype. Gonna be jamming a few of their records to distract me — if everything is playing out like people are speculating, it would be dope if a download of the EP came with an LP preorder
|
| |
I've never listened to a new mwY album without jamming everything they've ever done before...because every single thing this band has ever done is ace...and it'd just feel goddamn wrong to break that tradition....so yeah, I'll just hold out.
|
| |
Thinking I’ll for sure jam at least Ten Stories and Pale Horses later — timing the end of Rainbow Signs to finish right when the pre-order drops would be perfect lol
|
| |
Ain't no true mewithoutYou jam without In a Sweater Poorly Knit.
|
| |
I mean, I listen to B/S like every other day indefinitely so ya true lol
|
| |
but also,
the part in Julia after he quotes Rumi and says “will I meet you there?” is so good. There are some sick vocal harmonies in this too. Honestly, I loved the track at first but was a bit disappointed that it sounded a little too much like a RFC song, but it’s been unfolding a lot more to me. Such a killer tune.
|
| |
Got dat collectors edition boxset, $105 well spent
YEET
|
| |
Jesus, nice. I couldn’t stomach it. LP out Oct 5, and 19 tracks total. What a freakin treat!
|
| |
Can’t afford the collector’s edition but I’m def picking up a blue variant of the LP!
|
| |
Listening to the EP now. I'm in love and these are just the b sides.
|
| |
Andddddd then I went and got another variant of each too...might even buy the cassettes
|
| |
Okay, Kristy w/ the Sparkling Teeth is my everything right now. Aaron's best cleans to date.
|
| |
Tracklist! Love these titles
9:27a.m., 7/29
Julia (or, ‘Holy to the LORD’ on the Bells of Horses)
Another Head for Hydra
[dormouse sighs]
Winter Solstice
Flee, Thou Matadors!
Tortoises All the Way Down
2,459 Miles
Wendy & Betsy
New Wine, New Skins
Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore
Break on Through (to the Other Side) [pt. Two]
|
| |
copped the Audiophile White with no regrets
|
| |
I can’t wait to hear the album version of Winter Solstice - love that vocal melody
|
| |
Okay. I'm only about 90 seconds into the EP and already sold.
|
| |
I'm already in the great white fields with Aaron and his dad right now.
|
| |
It’s honestly so good. It makes me so much more hype for the LP
Also, here are all the lyrics: https://pastebin.com/raw/QL81G4wm
|
| |
Those lyrics teases scattered on the page, man. This is fantastic.
Cities of the Plain fucked me up.
|
| |
Dude the ending of that track was absolutely one of my highlights from the whole EP. so fucking good
|
| |
Man, I don't want to jump the gun, but the EP alone feels like 4.5-5 material.
Unreal. Cannot wait to listen again. I always set my expectations low for these guys and usually releases grow, but (and I just may be in the perfect mindset right now) this was very, very immediate.
Aaron continues to makes the top of his game something that is without bounds of any sense and I can't say that for anyone else behind a mic or in music in general.
|
| |
The lyrics on this are some of my favorite Aaron lyrics ever. Just that entire first song lyrically, holy shit
|
| |
For real. Endless greatness.
|
| |
Guys...my heart is so full right now. If the EP is this damn good, I can’t even imagine what the album itself is gonna be like
|
| |
"Got dat collectors edition boxset, $105 well spent
YEET"
Tried to order it too, they don't have it available in the EU, so painfull
|
| |
I’m very sorry, buddy 😢
|
| |
gorgeous ep - makes me extra excited because of how mellow and beautiful this is, it makes me feel like there will be some genuinely heavy songs on the full length, as people have been talking about
|
| |
October 5 is the release date. Just before my birthday too. Stoked!!
|
| |
I decided to simply order the physical EP and LP. None of the shirts I wanted were in stock.
|
| |
yeah I just got the collectors 200g vinyl, and it was hard enough to justify paying that much so I definitely wasn’t going to spend $105. really lovely ep and listening to the single again gave me chills, and I didn’t want to miss out on what looks to be an incredible work - both the music and the packaging itself
|
| |
I got through the EP once on the way to work and it was pleasant but didn't grip me. I'm sure that will change. I do think the LP will knock it out of the park though.
|
| |
That's where I'm at right now. On my 2nd listen, I can't say I'm blown away or anything. It's nice, but really stripped down musically. Some songs (Dirty Rain) don't even sound like mwY, kinda odd. I'm sure it'll grow on me, especially as I dig into the lyrics
|
| |
^that's the case with every mwY for me, ever. always starts with mild disappointment followed by that "oh my god" moment where you realize you're the imperfect one for not realizing it is perfect.
|
| |
yeah it’s kinda like the new anthony green LP for me in that it was really lovely to listen to but I wasn’t like “man I need to hear this over and over again.” I think once the lp is out this will be a really interesting contrast to what the style the display there though, and might make this even better if that makes sense.
|
| |
Yeah so even after the 2nd listen just now, the last two tracks (August 6th and Kristy) reeeally resonated with me. Also, while all the lyrics here are incredible, Winter Solstice is grabbing me by the shoulders right now:
Winter solstice, the earth open wide
with a mouth closed and face carved like stone
dressed the dawn in the air drawn designs
as the sounds rose in waveforms unknown
and you smile but your vampire complexion still shows
so the past goes.
|
| |
my only real beef is with the ep/lp names. [Untitled]? Ugh. It's so lazy! It's overdone! It's boring! It's alright
|
| |
welp, this single they released sounds nothing like the EP. pretty disappointing for me, I was hoping I'd enjoy something new from them. August 6th was enjoyable, but lyrics are pretty ridiculous per usual.
|
| |
I wouldn't worry Dungeon, it's pretty clear that the EP and LP are going to be opposites. I think this EP was just a way for them to release some of the lighter stuff that they still liked. The LP will bring the fire.
|
| |
Here's hoping!
|
| |
Dungeon-
Look at the EP album art, then look at the LP art. That's all you need to know. Tune back in Oct. 5 for some real boppers.
|
| |
wow great point
|
| |
"Anaesthetized castration en masse, anyone?"
Best lyric?
It's more likely than you think.
|
| |
Second half of the ep especially rukes so hard
|
| |
From something my friend sent me from Reddit, the band's manager on the parallels of the artwork for the Ep and Lp:
"I love what you guys pick up. This was totally the intent of the artwork. Aaron picked the album art and I picked the ep. They EP artwork was meant literally depict the condensed ball that that the Album explodes into... and I mean EXPLODES. IN. TO."
|
| |
haha so fucking stoked
|
| |
Where's the time machine? Must get to October 5 immediately.
|
| |
I am giddy this album is going to be wild
|
| |
https://i.redd.it/vdzp77gbopg11.jpg
|
| |
I'm trying to remain cautious about the hype. I don't want to make this thing impossible to live up to.
|
| |
That's usually a fair point Sowing, but counterpoint: it's MwY
|
| |
I always try to keep my expectations low, but how the fuck do I do that now?
|
| |
I said trying. We all know I'll fail. ;-)
|
| |
the hype train is so far from the station it’s ridiculous
|
| |
worst album of the year already
|
| |
Says the guy digging Mac Miller
|
| |
says the guy digging mewithoutyou
|
| |
says the guy who has La Dispute and Manchester Orchestra at a troll rating of 1.5
|
| |
the fact that you think theyre troll ratings lol
|
| |
lol
|
| |
This is a fucking great song.
This album is def gonna be on my best AOTY list.
|
| |
