cant wait to not listen to it
| |
song is pretty stellar.
| |
Lmao @Tyler. I'm a fan of the band, but this comment slayed me
| |
Really like the song titles. Short album? Hopefully some of these tracks are bit longer
| |
I hope that the hype doesn't end up hurting this album like it did with Rooms of the House, but the song is genuinely incredible, and I hope that it generally follows this atmosphere throughout. It would be great if there were some longer tracks for sure, but quality over quantity always reigns supreme.
| |
^ yeah, these guys kill the long songs. I can’t get over how wild this track is. It’s gonna be a crazy show opener, that’s for sure
| |
yeah new song is fantastic, it's pretty much exactly what I'd expect from La Dispute but it's executed super well. hype off the charts
| |
So...is “Flowers on the street” the new “Darling” or are we not even gonna go there...
| |
Loving the aesthetic of the music video. New song is a perfect direction for them. Color me excited.
| |
Garbage album art. Song's great, though.
| |
Sadly agree ^ shit looks like a Born of Osiris album cover lmao.
| |
I love this art..
| |
The music video’s art style is beautiful. The album art itself, however, is ass.
| |
fuck yeah sad boy hours are BACK
| |
I get more of an MGMT/Tame Impala vibe from the album art, which yeah is weird, but I don't care that much.
| |
I love the song and the video is great. Hopefully the whole album is this good. Album artwork is kinda lame though.
| |
From what I remember of their last album it was like at least 10 songs that were exactly the same.
| |
not at all? listen to it again
| |
Maybe the wrong album or even the wrong band. I get these guys confused with another band all the time. Unfortunately I can't remember the other bands name. Basically the formula I remember was 'Scream emotionally, pause for these sort of cringy rants/spoken word'' rinse repeat. Over and over.
| |
so maybe just not your thing then
| |
Love it, also agree in hoping that the hype doesn't kill reception for this album like Rooms. Personally, the album art alone went a way in diminishing my expectations because its atrocious but I was pleasantly surprised. I really like that the instrumental composition has stepped up immensely on this song, to the point where its matching Dreyer's vocals - didn't really feel that was the case on Rooms. Also, Jordan is monologuing less here, which is a nice change. Video was amazing, too.
| |
Don't mind the album art at all. Doesn't seem extremely La Dispute to me, but it's tasteful and pretty. Certainly not bothersome, at the very least.
| |
I actually like the album art ¯_(ツ)_/¯
| |
Tracks 6 through 9 have the most La Dispute titles you could have asked for
| |
you fuckers arent ready for this classic being dropped on us
| |
this is good. Loved the video itself
| |
Damn that was fucking killer!
| |
I'm so hyped for this. Just saw them live a couple weeks back and they were incredible.
| |
"in northern michigan" gonna be my fav
| |
1) I'm glad this band isn't just resting on its laurels and only sticking to that mostly needless remaster.
2) As long as this band is such a one-trick pony, I don't see them being great. As usual this single shows the potential of them being very very good.
| |
Thought the album art seemed familiar. Literally the same aesthetic as the new Hopesfall album that came out earlier this year.
| |
damn u right
| |
ok yea this>>>>>>>>>>>the entirety of rooms of the house
| |
uhhh. this literally could have been on Rooms lol. you cant like this song and dislike everything from rooms
| |
Video is strong as hell, song very promising. I love the ambience.
| |
"uhhh. this literally could have been on Rooms lol. you cant like this song and dislike everything from rooms"
except it does what rooms does a lot better
| |
the guitar is super predictable in this song. I like it, but Rooms had way better guitar parts matched with the exact same thing Jordan is doing in this song. I really think you're due for a re-listen
| |
album cover is Sick
| |
"Thought the album art seemed familiar. Literally the same aesthetic as the new Hopesfall album that came out earlier this year."
Noticed that too. Too close for coincidence.
| |
I actually like this dude's shouting vox, but I've heard enough of that poetic spoken word thing.
| |
I love the album art. It fits the sound and the video perfectly.
| |
Good song.
| |
hope they have some longer songs in here, the last lost continent is a masterpiece imo
| |
Why do bands announce albums 4 months before they intend to actually release it? It kinda kills the hype for me
| |
This is more like 3 months, which is perfectly normal.
| |
Album art has the same color scheme as the newest Hopesfall album
| |
Fulton Street II is gonna be a jam, I'm feeling it.
| |
god damn this is good. i usually disregard music videos but this one was animated so well and the buildup with the song fit the action perfectly.
also, this does look like the arbiter album art. i love that album. but i hate rooms of the house. i think we may be in store for another wildlife classic release.
stream of consciousness commenting style, weird
| |
Rooms sounds way better in 2018 than it did in 2014, even if it's not Wildlife-tier (but honestly I don't expect them to approach those heights again)
| |
im listening to rooms right now because of how much i dug this and nah still not feelin it
| |
I love Rooms
| |
song - good
album art - bad
| |
Pls lord let this be better than Rooms, don’t disappoint me.
| |
It is but the vocals have changed a bit again, I gotta warm up to it a bit I suppose.
| |
I usually don’t jam singles but I’m gonna have to listen to this one.
First 2 albums are easy 5’s for me but god damn Rooms was so boring and disappointing.
| |
i love this video so much.
I enjoy the song a lot too but it's not what I expected at all. Glad to see a bit of a shift in style.
| |
Loving the song and video. Album art seems a little unusual for them but I'm hoping it'll match the sound of the record. For people asking after longer songs, the last track is the longest at a bit over 7 mins. Everything else is looking between 3-5 mins.
| |
Rooms was only a disappointment in so much as it was a pretty big change of pace for them. It's a lot more subdued and quiet, which I absolutely loved. Rooms might even be my favorite album by them. These two songs here have me incredibly hyped for what's next and, lordy, that video is gorgeous.
| |
InFiction, how did ya get that info?
| |
Love people saying Rooms was boring but this is AMAAAAHHZING. This is even more mellow and low key than most songs from Rooms. Listen to Hudsonville, Stay Happy There, Woman (Reading) and tell me that album is boring.
| |
Rooms was pretty shite tbh
First album is still the best
| |
I love Rooms and yeah I kinda feel the same way, I'm surprised at this getting as much praise as it is. but hey, I won't complain.
| |
First album was good but also sooo fucking cheesy. It spawned the “darling” memes, TONIGHT WE RIDE!!!, etc
Rooms is extremely consistent and emotional, people just don’t give it a chance because they want more scramzzz
| |
Scramz rules, wtf is wrong with you
Are you one of those special people who like the last pianos become the teeth lmao
| |
Music video was beautiful, loved the art style. Song was pretty good, it took a bit to get going though. Just please be better than that boring slog that was there last album.
| |
Song was pretty boring tbh
| |
And yeah, I agree with Hawks. Fuck all this generic minimalistic indie garbage. Brand new fucked it up on daisy and sci fi. These guys fucked it up on rooms. Pianos become the teeth fucked it up on their last two albums.
Thank fuck we still have bands like Touche Amore or A lot like birds who actually play emotive music instead of playing five-minute build-ups into nothing.
| |
"Thank fuck we still have bands like A lot like birds "
hate to break it to ya...
| |
Haven't heard divisi but the two before ruled. Don't tell me they fucked it up too.
| |
"minimalistic indie garbage" ... "daisy"....
if you consider Daisy to be minimalist indie then uhh well idk what to tell you dawg. It's basically the closest thing that exists to a modern In Utero
| |
Nirvana sucks dude
| |
"Haven't heard divisi but the two before ruled. Don't tell me they fucked it up too."
Divisi is a huge let down, and they broke up a couple months ago
| |
Also you're so wrong about Pianos. Wait for Love isn't anything special but Keep You accomplished exactly what it set out for. Admit that you only hate it because it wasn't the same style you wanted from that band. It is so fantastic in its own way. No sane human can listen to Repine and say it isn't a well-written song
| |
I think DIVISI slays hard honestly. Not as much as the first 3 but still. Most people hate it though yeah.
And I dig Keep You but the new PBTT sucks so hard.
| |
I don't mind bands changing style at all. It's just sometimes the shift in sound goes horribly wrong, which is exactly what happened to pianos. Their second album was fucking gorgeous though
Thrice changed their sound on Vheissu and it worked pretty damn well. Thursday made changes to their sound and ended up releasing No Devolucion. There are plenty of other examples there, I'm sure, but it definitely doesn't apply to the three bands I talked about.
| |
I think Defeater is another brilliant example of the band simplifying their songwriting and ending up releasing something truly mediocre. Travels and Lost Ground are stunning records, but everything that followed is just so painfully average.
| |
well defeater has literally just made the same album over and over again with the same exact concept just told from a different character in the concept so no shit they suck now
| |
The Lack Long After is one of the best albums ever. Perfect example of how to mix skramz with post-rock. Idk what to expect now after the last atrocity though lol.
Also hasn’t bothered wit Defeater since Empty Days came out.
| |
The Lack Long After is one of the best albums ever. Perfect example of how to mix skramz with post-rock.
Couldn't agree more. One of the best albums in the genres for sure.
| |
Have you jammed State Faults??? If not get on them asap.
| |
Never heard. Will listen today. Thanks for the rec!
| |
Both of their albums are my top 2 skramz albums ever. Desolate Peaks in particular is so amazing. The Lack Long After would be 3rd lol.
| |
You can never have much too much good skramz in your life m/
| |
True. m/
| |
Lack Long After was great, Wait for Love was terrible.
Defeater haven't released a bad album, but they stopped doing anything ambitious after Empty Days. Their problem is that they haven't changed or written anything spectacular since.
Touche Amore haven't changed their sound too much but are still releasing amazing albums.
La Dispute are doing it right, changing their sound enough to sound fresh but also not becoming dull. Rooms doesn't have any iconic screaming or shouting parts ("TONIGHT WE RIDE") but it also doesn't have cringy and sometimes misplaced earnestness of their other material.
| |
that was like.... easily one of their best songs. Loved it and the video
Keep in mind this is coming from someone whose favorite La Dispute is Rooms of the House
| |
Loved Lack Long After. Loved Wait for Love.
Loved Wildlife. Loved this song.
Sorry, anyone upset.
| |
No, I will never forgive you, how can you like stuff I don't like
| |
HOW FUCKING DARE YOU
| |
hawks do you like this
| |
Haven’t jammed it yet bro.
| |
This easily has more urgency than anything on Rooms of the House. The build up and crescendo is genuinely powerful. Rooms was good but unlike previous La Dispute records, the record didn't take me anywhere. I think I can speak for a lot of La Dispute fans when saying the issue wasn't the sound of Rooms of the House, it was the execution.
| |
I just don't get much from this band anymore but that song was pretty good. Maybe this album will win me back
| |
You guys are weird, the "Woman" duology moved me more than anything they'd done before
This has that same realness and yes, combines it with some of the heaviness of before. Idk I just think it's fantastic
| |
Idk Rooms was like what they were before only super dumbed down, less passionate and boring. Hope I dig this though. m/
| |
fuck off, quieter does not equal less passionate lmao how could you listen to "Woman (reading)" and think it's dispassionate
| |
He did not say that. Dumbed down and quieter are two different things you penis
| |
you phallic object
| |
It doesn't matter how good the vocal delivery/lyrics are, if the music itself is watered down, then it's perfectly understandable why people wouldn't like it. And that was Rooms' biggest fault.
| |
I just literally don't find it watered down at all lmao
| |
I didn’t say dispassionate, I said less passionate and boring.
| |
I dig Rooms but found this disappointing on first listen.
| |
hawks i love you but please
| |
Neek ily2 but please what??? The first 2 albums are better in every conceivable way. Even all the EPs are better in every conceivable way lol.
| |
Haven't listened to this band in a long minute. Not sure if still like them as much as I used to 5 years ago.
| |
thank you neeka. Rooms was a fucking journey, it's hard for me to play the last song because it's so goddamn devastating. everyone clearly jumped on the "oh this is quieter so therefore boring" bandwagon and few gave it an honest chance. sure, there's no King Park on the record. but who gives a fuck. the story and consistency from track to track are what really make it.
| |
King park isn't even that good
| |
ok now...
| |
" everyone clearly jumped on the "oh this is quieter so therefore boring" bandwagon and few gave it an honest chance"
even when I gave it a 3.5 I acknowledged the (woman) songs were among the best -- but even at its best that album is missing the emotional fervor that makes Wildlife a hard 5
also King Park is an absolute classic obviously
| |
King park isn't even that good
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO what a stupid thing to say.
| |
yeah, seeing that song performed live in a 300 cap venue downtown GR might change one's mind. It's unreal.
| |
>King park isn't even that good
agreed. its the most in your face song on the album so it gets the most hype but it is because of how blunt it is that i dont care for it. its also completely unrelatable in story, whereas harder harmonies/you and i in unison are much more poignant and lasting to me
| |
King Park doesn't have to be relatable for it to be good. The song masterfully tells a story and draws you into it and makes you feel as though you're there witnessing it all unfold. Not to mention the tremendously passionate vocal deliveries and instrumental buildups. I admit it's not my favorite on the album but come on guys...
| |
I'm just saying there's better songs on Wildlife, chill.
| |
Looking forward to this one
| |
King Park is an incredible song. Very few bands are capable of capturing emotion the way La Dispute do and King Park is their peak of that.
| |
King Park isn't the best on Wildlife but that's really all I can say against it. It's still one of the best songs I'll ever hear.
| |
[2] I prefer Safer in the Forest
| |
Song is boring as fuck, hope part II will be better.
| |
Song really grew on me. Still can’t get over how bad the album art is though lol
| |
Yeah, looks more like a cover for a soundtrack to a Cartoon Network show or something
| |
looks like avatar last airbender.
| |
I agree about Pianos, Lack Long After is one of my favourite albums of all time. I liked Keep You a lot but Wait For Love was pretty mediocre.
As for Defeater, I'm probably in the minority that prefers Empty Days to Travels, but I agree their last two albums have been lacking (although Bastards is a tune).
| |
Ugh Will Yip sucks so fucking hard. Way to go and make a lyrically driven band’s vocalist basically inaudible for half the song. It’s like he’s actively trying to ruin music at this point. He is a cancer in this music scene.
| |
the only problem he seems to have is low vocal mix. everything is fantastic. and even then, this could be an artist choice.
| |
Excited to hear the album in full, but that artwork is atrocious
| |
All that song waiting for that soft climax. lol And this bubblegum raindrop Steven Universe aesthetic.
| |
^ hilarious description. Also Defeater isn’t that great besides their Lost Ground EP, which owns. I enjoy all of Pianos music besides their new one. Even tho it did have some jams like Charisma
| |
"lol And this bubblegum raindrop Steven Universe aesthetic."
Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking of when I saw it. Great show though.
| |
hilarious description. Also Defeater isn’t that great besides their Lost Ground EP, which owns.
Debut album was great too. Empty days was lolbad.
| |
Is this band still an uninspired charactature of what they used to be
| |
Something tells me you know the meaning of caricature about as well as you can spell it. Band is timeless and i cant wait to hear the record and see them live again next year
| |
damn. rekt.
| |
Radio, despite that swift brutality you just doled out, I do second the notion that these guys are falling off. Haven't been the same after Rooms.
| |
Rooms is still a good album though MillionDead. I feel like they tried a few different approaches that their fan base didn't love, but that has shows no indication to me that they still don't have a great record in them.
| |
Rooms was too dialed back for me in terms of sonics. It told solid stories but the delivery was hardly ever exciting. And now we have an album with an aging band fresh off of a binge of Adventure Time, Over the Garden Wall, and Gravity Falls.
| |
Right, have you even heard the song?
| |
Fuck that, Rooms was great.
This will be even better.
| |
I commented on the song higher up on the feed, neekafat. The lyrics were nice, the song itself left me pretty cold. It was pretty drawn out and makes you wait for an underwhelming climax.
| |
"Fuck that, Rooms was great.
This will be even better."
[2]
Rooms is still their best imo
| |
Woowwww, I can respect liking Rooms but saying it's their best is all the way too far.
| |
Rooms sucks < 3
| |
sorry yeah it's just the most moving to me
| |
hit me in a personal spot at just the right time though
| |
exactly, same here. it's the most personal and crushing thing they've done.
| |
fucking LOVe this yo
| |
Rooms is definitely 3rd best out of their LPs, but woman (reading) is one of my favorite songs of all time. They will never put out a legitimately bad album imo, and I still think they have the ability to make one last classic
| |
Damn I really fucked up that spelling didn’t I, shows how much attention I was paying lmao
| |
Barrow's Though I'm Alone is best modern skramz for me / Rooms of the House was good and not much different from the other albums??
| |
I unexpectedly enjoyed this after rooms bored me to tears
| |
none of you people make sense. either rooms is boring and this is boring, or rooms was beautiful and this is beautiful. they're the same fucking thing. you cant say one is good and the other isn't.
| |
because this is way more dynamic than anything on rooms is
| |
decent band (bit overrated imo) but the singer is a total cunt in real life
| |
onion go listen to The Child We Lost 1963 or Scenes From Highways and then tell me that again. Your brain is clearly omitting some of the best moments of Rooms so that you can continue having this opinion that you refuse to change
| |
ROSE QUARTZ / FULTON STREET I is absolutely amazing, both music and the video visuals.
> mewithoutyou any day
| |
how the fuck did i miss this, wouldve easily ended up on my best songs of 2018 list
| |
