Elder return with Omens

2020-02-24 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 33 Comments
Elder will release their 5th studio record, Omens on April 24 through Stickman Records/Armageddon. This will be their first album with new drummer Georg Ebert.

'Embers' is the first taste off Omens, listen to it below:

Regarding the LP, guitarist/vocalist Nick DiSalvo mentioned: “To me, Omens is our most complete work to date: a set of songs that express the breadth of the band’s collective influences. After recording The Gold & Silver Sessions EP, it felt like we fully scratched the itch to explore our minimalist side, taking a step back from the proggy song structures and heavy guitar work of our previous records and just letting the music drift along. When beginning to work on Omens, the goal was to integrate these two tendencies in the band – to make a modern day progressive rock record, but also to take time to jam and float when need be. Most importantly, I feel the spirit of adventure in our music is alive and well, and we missed no opportunity to bring in a whole new arsenal of sounds to the record.”

Track listing:

1. Omens
2. In Procession
3. Halcyon
4. Embers
5. One Light Retreating

The group will resume touring in May. All announced dates can be viewed here - https://beholdtheelder.com/elder-tour/

it's some sort of rock music, with two very distinct guitar tones, playing some pretty varied and complex riffs in the intro. Drumming is more interesting then it could be and have a very natural sound to them. There's a guy singing, he's okay at singing, a little off pitch at times. There's a bass buried in there that sometimes pops its head up to say hi. I think there are a like a thousand riffs on this song. I would kill myself if I had to learn this song and play it live. hope that sums it up for you.

Vocals were never this band's strong suit but they seem notably worse here now that they're all in on the prog side

That sure was an Elder track alright. Vocals are weirdly worse, but I enjoyed the jam in the second half

It has a more polished, hard-rock sound than what I'm use to with them. It's a quality jam, though.

The production could have been a bit heavier, but it's a good song

This is better with the build up from 'Halcyon'. Seems like it's one of those 'bigger picture' releases.

I feel the opposite, ever since Lore they've been getting better and better. Reflections is IMO their best work to date and it'll be hard to top, but this sounds good. Different degrees of greatness, but I feel this band can do no wrong, they just have it.

Band brings the riffs as usual, but the vocals really are terrible on this. They were never great to begin with, but they've been getting worse since Lore.

Returned to listen to the track but this was all I needed so I thank you for saving me 10 minutes from my regular listening schedule
