They have no right to slap this hard at their age. Sounds more organic than the last release

Pretty cool how underproduced this is

I was thinking the same thing, it’s almost lofi for Fates Warning standards.

it’s almost lofi for Fates Warning standards. [2]

Sounds like a demo almost. I've never heard Bobby's drums sound so timid. Surprised at the production considering how Winter Ethereal sounded.

And are you kidding me Ray? Is he getting younger or what? Sounds amazing and powerful. The song feels like an OSI song

There's no way I'm making it to November 6th [100!]

And I'm not sure why Metalblade didn't upload this on their Youtube page. What's the point of signing with them if they're not going to promote the single. Hopefully they do within a few days

Name some other bands with albums as great as the ones they have at the back end of their careers. HoF worthy. Incredible really.

Truly enjoyable--this is in the direction of Theories which sort of mirrors that prog adjacent metal sound they've been killing.

Per Ray Alder:

“There are some songs with electronics and some with a nice ethereal feel, as well as some pretty straightforward grooves, at least for us. And there are also some pretty heavy songs. We tried to give the listener a host of different things to listen to, as opposed to an album where every song sounds the same.”

We're in for a ride!

This song isn't bad, but it comes off like a slightly more progressive FWX-style song.

Edit: I'm a little critical of the production too, but it's still better than Inside Out's.

But after reaching Theories' production level I would have expected Jim to maintain that standard. I'm guessing this is intentional in accordance with the kind of songs on the album

@rayray: Will really be curious to hear the ethereal ones as well!

Also Metalblade has uploaded it as well

If that's true, definitely check out their previous release, Theories of Flight.

If I had to fit this song in to an existing album, it would definitely be Darkness In A Different Light. I do hope this album is better than that one though.

Theories spoiled us big time.

Not crazy about the cheesy echo on the vocals but the song rocks.

It's only there for a few bits though so that's fine

Agreed with everything Titan, spot on. It'll probably be more varied than it though. It'll have more mellow sections, which I'm looking forward to hearing

Fates binge.

Since this song dropped, I listened to 7 Fates records in their entirety.

Where's Source?

Sweet track, vocals are a bit too high in the mix, but aside that, it sounds great.

Darkness was a grower and a nice reintroduction from their long hiatus. It gave us One Thousand Fires which is a classic but overall, it didn't measure up. It sort of felt like FWX in the sense that it had a few absolute beasts but the full albums fell short.

Theories on the otherhand took this Jarzombek driven mid 90s influenced alt prog and perfected it. As wonderful as Zonder is, we just don't get the same vibe from this new era with Mark on drums in the same way that the band totally shifted gears when Zimmerman left and Zonder stepped in.

You can really take the temperature of FW based on their drummers.

Yeah--I think I confused my writing a bit but, I meant that this newer sound would be a lot different with Mark on drums instead of Bobby :-)
