avant garde power pop
|
| |
Why does The Golden Casket seem like an appropriate album title for this era of Modest Mouse?
Still have to check out the single, but sadly I don't have high hopes.
|
| |
Their worst song yet!
|
| |
Can't wait to buy some jeans to this.
Is this one "raw punk power" or "experimental studio science" you think?
|
| |
Yeah not really into this song, but still looking forward to the album with restrained optimism. I still think Strangers is a solid 3.5 so I’m hoping this can be at least a little better.
|
| |
"the liminal space between raw punk power and experimental studio science.”
I guess that's one way to spin the production sounding like shit
|
| |
lmao
|
| |
wow this is like bad bad
|
| |
Christ it’s an even more shit Tame Impala
|
| |
god damn this is trash
|
| |
Like, how do you, as a band member of Modest Mouse, listen to this and think to yourself "yeah this is a worthy addition to our discography"
|
| |
damn you guys really get off on hating shit
|
| |
Baron Von Bullshit is galloping on this one
|
| |
Sounds like your typical post-Good News era Modest Mouse. It's not terribly exciting, but I'm not sure if I fully understand the hate it's getting.
|
| |
I don’t hate the song but it’s totally on autopilot both musically and lyrically.
|
| |
Yeah and the other new songs they had released a few years back didn't do much for me either : / I used to be obsessed with this band and remember even liking StO quite a bit. Am hoping they still have some spark left and there'll be some gems on this new one.
|
| |
This album cover gives me fucking heartburn
|
| |
Just looked it up and the producing credits of the guys who produced this (David Sardy and Jackknife Lee) are all mediocre-to-bad alt/pop rock, so any hope that I had is effectively gone.
Here's their recent resume:
Lee: The Killers, Two Door Cinema Club, U2, Editors, Sneaks
Sardy: Fall Out Boy, DFA1979, The Who, A Perfect Circle, Incubus
|
| |
Damn, Modest Mouse were like "Give us the SowingSeason special"
|
| |
not really that bad, but not great either. Ii think we all expect a little more from these guys tho
|
| |
"Like, how do you, as a band member of Modest Mouse, listen to this and think to yourself "yeah this is a worthy addition to our discography""
rent's due
|
| |
uhhh this certainly exists. nothing particularly awful but also literally nothing that whole song grabbed my ear
will get me jamming moon and antarctica again so there's that at least
|
| |
i think it's cool they're doing what they want and not pandering to an audience that would prefer a re-hash of old material or some spiritual successor to moon & antarctica. tbh they're damned if they do or if they don't, so i respect them for saying fuck it and doing whatever tf they want.
|
| |
I don't care that this doesn't sound like OG Mouse, I care because it sucks. Same with the newer Pixies albums
|
| |
Or they’re damned if they put out a compendium of microwaved Black Keys-isms with production that sounds like it’s trying to suffocate it face down in a curbside mud puddle
|
| |
that producer output is tragic
|
| |
> with production that sounds like it’s trying to suffocate it face down in a curbside mud puddle
the new MancO?
|
| |
"Damn, Modest Mouse were like "Give us the SowingSeason special" "
shit I don't think I can unhear this
|
| |
maybe I'm an optimist but I'm looking forward to this
|
| |
and yet this isn't as bad as some of you are making it out to be lmao
|
| |
i'm sure there will be people out there who like it. maybe you shouldn't worry so much about the music that you hate. seems like a misuse of energy.
|
| |
I like the music. Vocals are pretty bland
|
| |
actual song is fine, nothing amazing
production is horrendous though
|
| |
> maybe you shouldn't worry so much about the music that you hate. seems like a misuse of energy.
sir this is a music website
|
| |
Burning too many calories typing comments on sputnikmusic.com.
|
| |
Listening to music I hate to own the libs
|
| |
Well at least their other albums will be bumped a lot in response to this... single.
|
| |
Putting on the new tune from onna my favorite bands cause I’m a sourpuss and love to hate things
|
| |
Pixies are doing it so yeah why the fuck not
|
| |
disliking this song has me fucking exhausted
|
| |
nvm sandwich already said that more cleverly
|
| |
This was passable but the fact that it's the lead single officially has me worried
Sans the vocals this is like a mediocre indie pop band that cites MM as an influence, and you listen to their music and go "uhhhh I guess I kinda hear it? A little?"
|
| |
Weird nitpick I know, but it's bothering me: why does the rainbow in the video include pink but not orange, and in a spot where it doesn't make sense
Like pink doesn't belong between blue and purple, maybe between red and purple or something, but yeah, crappy rainbow Modest Mouse!
As for the song: idk generic indie rock
|
| |
punk is my favorite colour
|
| |
What color would punk be? IDK but I'm thinking like a greyish red

i mean the singles from Strangers were the best songs on the album. This band does not do well with overproduced short pop rock songs, they do better with long groovy/melancholic/spacey songs in my opinion.
|
| |
Furthermore it's embarrassing that this band is putting out generic feel good indie rock stuff like this, they were innovators in the genre in their heyday and avoided the sort of shitty overproduced crap that was out at the time, now it's like they want to be like those bands from the mid 2000's.
|
| |
IDK isn't Float On summer poppy feel good indie?
|
| |
Whats' with the guy who said this sounds like Good news era modest mouse, it does not in my opinion
|
| |
You know though now that I think back on it, Good News really is a low point in their discog, considering what they put out before it.
|
| |
needs moar screechy string bending
|
| |
Good News and We Were Dead are both really really good
|
| |
at least Good News has awesome indie pop rock songs like Ocean Breathes Salty though that song has more interesting guitar playing, bass, and melody than any attempt at that sound they made after though
|
| |
hello hello hello
|
| |
I'm one of those people who like the twinkly guitar and spacey sounds and exploratory long songs with crazy grooves that were on Moon and Antarctica and the other albums previous to that one, which I know is an annoying group in this bands fanbase but the groove and experimentation and passion on those albums was never reached again by the band. Of course keep in mind it's almost a completely different band now. Guitar player gone, bassist gone. New folks added to make it like a 6 person band now.
There's some sort of lofi charm those albums have that none of the other ones did, regardless of highlights from the albums after.
|
| |
At this point my only hope is that there will be another "the ground walks" here
|
| |
It's kind of weird someone as quirky as Isaac would put out such trite boring shite though. None of his personality is in this song which was a big hallmark of MM in my opinion. there's no excuse for a veteran indie rock band like this to put out such trite music. Lets hope the rest of the album is more experimental
|
| |
It wasn’t horrible
|
| |
Still better than ice cream party
|
| |
Pups to Dust was tight
|
| |
Mo’Dust Pups
|
| |
ice cream party had more passion than this song so idk what you're talking about Kompys2000
|
| |
"science"
|
| |
Epic song
|
| |
This is fine just not particularly memorable. Will probably work better in context.
|
| |
this is asinine
|
| |
It's not quite awful but I don't see this turning any heads.
|
| |
This sounds like a demo lol
|
| |
unclear if that's a good thing or a bad thing
|
| |
Haven't been on Facebook today but I bet the Good News For People Who Love Modest Mouse group is eating this shit up lol
|
| |
Production is balls.
Interesting to see with each record the band's progression from underground all-star status to radio-worthy indie bores. We Were Dead had signs of it, Strangers cemented it...and this seems like they have become comfortable just releasing candy-coated drek. Seems to happen to most bands with age. Ahh well...
|
| |
"seems like they have become comfortable just releasing candy-coated drek. Seems to happen to most bands with age."
That kind of thing always happens when you're signed to a major label.
It's a long way down.
|
| |
Eh. In 2004 Isaac was 29. He's now 45. Thinking back to the end of golden age MM. You're going to have a fundamentally different output at 45 than you do at 29. It's better to think of this as an entirely different band.
|
| |
not exactly anything to rave about, but not nearly as bad as most reactions here are making it out to be
|
| |
It's ok, but a bit dull. I enjoyed those three singles they put out over past few years that apparently won't be on this new LP. Also, two F bombs in the tracklist...cool?
|
| |
What exactly did you all expect a Modest Mouse single to sound like in 2021?
I mean, this is straight fire for a 6/10 track.
|
| |
I don't want another TLCW I just want another Whale Song
|
| |
This and Ice Cream Party are all right, but they usually do better with longer songs, so hopefully the new album isn't all short poppier tracks without that balance of more ambitious stuff too.
|
| |
My friend adores this brand of cringeworthy indie-rock. Guarantee he has this on repeat today.
|
| |
"I don't want another TLCW I just want another Whale Song"
fucking preach
|
| |
It’s not shitty because it’s poorly performed. It’s shit because it’s so lifeless and boring and that’s the worst part. Wtf happened to this band, man :/
|
| |
clearly a band that should have retired 10 years ago
|
| |
SandwichBubble why the Sardy hate? He needs to get paid. His production/mixing resume also contains
Barkmarket
Spongehead - Curb your Dogma
Helmet - Aftertaste
Cop Shoot Cop - Release
Far - Water & Solutions
Autolux - Future Perfect
Brand New - Daisy
LCD Soundsystem - This is Happening
System of a Down - System of a Down
Marilyn Manson - Holy wood
|
| |
Song's not bad, just a little bland yall are too mean
|
| |
i don't need to even listen to this song to know it's just a waste of my time
|
| |
Kinda enjoyed this.
|
| |
it's not terrible but it's just.... kinda pointless and lifeless as others pointed out. This band in the earlier stages of their career were full of energy and quirkiness but this just sounds like incredibly generic radio music at this point.
|
| |
Not like good late 90's peak modest mouse but not a bad song. Production is a bit weird tho
|
| |
other peoples production sounds more interesting because it ain't mine - isaac brock, probably
|
| |
soooooo much /mu energy holy shit
it's just a new modest mouse single chilll
|
| |
It's not THAT bad, but it doesn't make me want to listen to the new album. I never listened to their last one either, most bands just have a finite number of good albums I think.
|
| |
Terrible song.
|
| |
Is this discount Foals?
|
| |
their last one has some good songs on it in my opinion really love the song Coyotes from that album, super sad song
|
| |
"Can't wait to buy some jeans to this." [2] lol
|
| |
the actual music video for this song is really good
|
| |
