Underoath's 'Pneumonia'

2021-09-22 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 39 Comments
Underoath shared the third single, 'Pneumonia', off their upcoming album Voyeurist, out January 14th, 2022 via Fearless Records. You can stream it below.

Band comments:
"We started writing this song exactly a year ago today. Timing is a weird thing sometimes. 9/22 (today) is the anniversary of Tim's dad passing away from Pneumonia after fighting cancer for years. We didn't know it when we started writing it, but the significance was already there and we ran with it. We got our good friend Seth to play guitar on this song with us as well. He and his family lost their dad a few years ago too. This song is one of the heavier hearted songs on the album and we hope you enjoy it. If you've ever lost anyone close to you, this one's for you.

This song is dedicated to Richard, Gary, and Kent."

Tracklist:
01. Damn Excuses
02. Hallelujah
03. I'm Pretty Sure I'm Out of Luck and Have No Friends
04. Cycle ft. Ghostemane
05. Thorn
06. (No Oasis)
07. Take A Breath
08. We're All Gonna Die
09. Numb
10. Pneumonia

Better than they've sounded in a while, but the payoff here was underwhelming

Little long, but solid. Harkens back to the golden era.

I'd honestly take 1 of the only 4 good tracks on Erase Me over this 7 minute snoozer

Great track with tinges of "Desolate Earth: The End Is Here" found throughout - but I really wish bands would stop releasing the closing track as a single prior to the album release.

i’m at the point where now I just question what it is that makes bands like this come back and do this sorta thing. Maybe u just pent up with age and it’s just whatever man.

The heavy part goes p hard tho

I'm thinking it will probably sound better in the context of the album.

I actually really liked that. It's in the vein of the last album, but works much better than that album did. It's also kind of Deftones-y.

Officially looking forward to the album.

Their best song since Disambiguation. Hyped for this record.

It'll be better than Erase Pee at least.

Really wish I was more hyped about this.

Track is awesome and sounds perfect as an album closer. Wish bands would stop dropping the closer of their albums as singles.

Feel like they need to bump up that release date.. Heard 3/10 tracks now and 4 months to go. That gives them room for basically 1 more single until hype is completely gone if half the album is out..

The rollout for this alone is gonna completely ruin the experience

7 minutes is long? Haaaaaaa. Track is good overall. Definitely better than most of Erase Me. The vocal approaches are nice and much more reminiscent of UO prior to break up. The final half of the song definitely connects back to that old, visceral UO intensity (at about a 6) that I miss.

Do they actively try to add "fuck" into every song now?

Also, why release 3 singles for a 10 song album not due to release until next year?

Reminded me in a couple of moments of 'Casting Such a Thin Shadow', which imo is one of the best tracks on DTGL. But mostly this is slow with little pay-off. Also @jouroboros I think someone must be giving them f**k commission, 'cause it's getting pretty stale by this point.

Like there are artists who swear almost every song and it is fine I don't understand how Spencer can't pull it off

This shouldn't have been a single either, what's with bands releasing their moody closers as singles looking at Indigo de souza and foxing as well / song is alright though

Why release an album closer as a single? After the first break around the 3:10 mark, the rest of the song should have been heavy with 1:30 shaved off. I was into this until it went into ANOTHER experimental segment and meandered along with a disappointing af payoff. That heavy part is just U/O going through the motions. They're so much better than this and that is what is completely frustrating...

they used to do pay offs well, like that one song that's like 7 minutes long from define the great line album can't remember what it's called though

EDIT: it's called 'To Whom It May Concern'

Is it just me, or is it kind of annoying how bands are releasing the last tracks on their records early? There are plenty of examples as of late. It’s almost like spoiling the ending of a movie before it’s released. Maybe it’s just me.

@Zackkkk Exactly... Well put. This would have hit much more after hearing it for the first time on an album first listen.
