Faster he transitions to this the faster people forget about "Personal Shopper"
Being said, I'm pumped for this.
| |
Excited as hell for this and the single is great but damn we have to wait until next June to hear the whole thing?
| |
I'm tired of Meta
Xbox Series X is a god to me
etc
| |
Lol the world might actually end after this
| |
cool news. SW's solo stuff was getting super tired and stale so this is a welcome return. song is nice
| |
yeah, nothing special imo tho. The drums and the synths make the whole thing basically
| |
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
| |
Concert in my city, nice! Will be there in Katowice.
| |
This is most welcome news, even though my boy Colin doesn't seem to be part of it. The new song is alright.
| |
I can't even mentally process how excited I am for this. PT has been my favorite act for years now and even hearing about them making new material again is one of the most significant music events I could've asked for, especially with how dear to me their songwriting became during my teenage years.
As for the new single, this is a pretty damn good start. Lots of moving parts, immaculate production (of course), and a careful balance between the old and new. If I pinned this single as anything, it would be a mix of Nil Recurring's more technical instrumentation and quirkier songwriting and The Raven/HCE style of production, especially on the bass. If the rest of the album goes along with this mixture of eras, the sky's the limit for how amazing this new album can really be.
Also, A TOUR IN AMERICA??!!!! I'm getting to at least 2 or 3 of those dates, screw my wallet.
| |
It's pretty reminiscent of The Incident. Interesting cause I always thought Steven's solo career was basically the continuation of PT, and I know PT was more than just him, but it seemed like FoaBP, Insurgentes, The Incident, and Grace for Drowning kind of fit together in a way, with the latter being a sprawling double album that signified a further change toward the future, into TRtRtS and beyond.
| |
Didn't love it on first listen, but I'm far from a big fan of anything Steven Wilson anymore. Musicianship is stellar though, as expected.
| |
Excited about the news, not so excited about the first single so far after a few listens. To me, it sounds a bit too much like SW's latest solo stuff but with fantastic input from Harrison and Barbieri. Sounds great of course except for guitars, they're far too polished and smooth even when the song tries to go heavy for a bit.
@TalonsOfFire It's probably reminiscent of The Incident because according to PT's updated website the songs on this album have been kicking around since right after that album
| |
Today is a good day
| |
This is the week of the comeback. Peak era In Flames (under a new name), Limp Bizkit, Porcupine Tree... who's next?
| |
I'm shitting and pissing my pants
| |
Holy shit...
| |
is this djent
| |
nice
| |
Love this band. Great news.
| |
Wasn't expecting this, great news.
Hopefully the album won't be a convoluted mess like The Incident.
| |
"The drums and the synths make the whole thing basically"
[2]
Also the chorus is catchy and the riffs in the heavy parts are cool. Nothing groundbreaking but a good song nevertheless. There's certainly a lot of potential for this, I'm super hyped that PT are back
| |
Holy shit lol this is awesome beyond words
| |
Wow what the hell. Awesome news
| |
Not expecting much but I will absolutely check this out
| |
Someone's 1'd the new album already lul
| |
Definitely interested to check this out. They've got some good material!
| |
I've been waiting for this for yearssssssss! One of my favourite groups of all time!!
| |
never saw this coming wtfffff
Is the song good? I'm scared to listen :/
We have to wait till nearly July for the rest?? Geez that's an early announcement but I'll take it
| |
It's good but not In Absentia good obviously. Anyway there's such a long wait before the album comes out, I will probably forget about it for the next 8 months lol
| |
I expect they will leak the album song by song well before the release date if I had to guess. At least I hope... Is it at least The Incident good because I thought that album was pretty underrated. Or is it more like Steven's solo stuff but with PT members, which would kind of disappoint me
| |
Dig this single greatly. But it's a weird thing...how to explain it? It's not like Glassjaw or Cynic or American Football, because those bands came back after a decade or so, but they only had one or two albums before they left. Porcupine Tree, on the other hand, has a HUGE catalogue of music to take in (not even including the side and solo projects), so while they were gone, I was still getting my fill of their music. Because of that, even though they became a top 3 all-time band for me, I was never really left wanting more.
So in a sense, this album is kind of like eating really good food when you're not really hungry. I am excited for it, and I imagine I'll love it, but I'm not expecting it to be as life-altering as their earlier works.
That being said...new album means new US tour dates, and that's honestly what I'm most excited for.
| |
I never in a million years would have expected to see this article. SW was holding firm on the band never coming back, and now this.
Single is really good too. It sounds to me like a combination of the Stupid Dream/Lightbulb Sun era and the last two PT records with some SW-isms mixed in.
| |
I didn’t expect to enjoy the song and I really did and idk where to go from here in my life
| |
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT YES; YES and YES. Where did this come from , I didn't heard anything about PT coming back, duuuude, this is big, let's see hows the song.
Edit: Yeah, the song is awesome, man i've missed this sound, i've also missed Gavin, hella good drummer, im so happy right now.
| |
On a side note, it's kinda weird that the wait for this album has been almost as long as Fear Inoculum. For some reason, it doesn't feel like it's been nearly as long; then again, that's probably because the release date wasn't teased so much for this album like it was for FI
Not to mention Tool were active during that entire period, whereas I don't think most people were even expecting another PT record to ever happen
| |
Pots already 1'd the album lmfao
| |
Doesn't surprise me tbh
| |
So many thoughts and feelings on this... Pissed my pants to say the least when I heard the news - 8 months from the album and already a single though? and it's the first track on the album presumably, never super crazy about that. Unfortunate that Colin Edwin doesn't seem to be a part of this one too. But gripes aside, it's so incredible to see this band back together. Their catalogue is so impressive I hardly ever thought we needed a new album, but I'm looking toward this one optimistically. Funnily enough the best thing about this single is definitely Gavin and Richard Barbieri's contributions lol
| |
Great news, solid track.
| |
You could literally shit a baby out in the time til this release. This isn't 2004 we don't need an election cycle to record every rock album
| |
Why is everyone so surprised by this?
He said it was always a possibility.
| |
yes but he also seemed very invested in his solo stuff and not having real interest in the band
| |
This is probably gonna end up being one of Sputnik’s top news posts of all time. Everyone here is crazy about PTree.
| |
Pretty stoked for this though. Not too crazy about Steven Wilson’s solo work or their last album. But this song seems a good bit more interesting than either of those.
| |
why's the album art so bad
| |
Would be a really nice album cover without the big white square obstructing the foliage
| |
It's clearly meant to reference The Next Day by David Bowie ;]
| |
Ok now this is news wow I did not expect this
| |
one of the worst things to happen
| |
The big boys are back in town
| |
Owh damn, didn't expect it but very happily surprised. Might go to the show in A'dam.
| |
Song is actually great, Gavin is a monster behind the kit.
| |
Great musicianship of course, but boring as hell song.
| |
Best course correction Steve could've done after the last two lukewarm solo albums. Song rocks.
| |
cant say i care much about that new song unfortunately
| |
nice
they have two of the greatest drummers/bassist ever
| |
Three of my favorite bands, Lower Definition, Anberlin, and now Porcupine Tree have made comebacks in 2021. Fuck this is almost too good to be true.
| |
I just learned the news and I'm so hyped. Didn't get to listen to the new song yet due to being at work but I'm so blasting this ASAP.
| |
"nice
they have two of the greatest drummers/bassist ever"
Yeah, but too bad the latter's not coming back. Still, if Nick Beggs is in fact the new bassist, I'm cool with that. If there's anybody I think could replace Colin, it's him
| |
I enjoyed this quite a bit. It’s different, but the traditional metal crunch is still present
| |
If Colin Edwin couldn’t be part of this reunion, which is still a shame, Nick Beggs or Tony Levin being the bass player would be great too. Would love of they toured in the U.S. as well.
| |
sounds like porcupine tree, which is a good thing
| |
could recognize that drumming and keyboard/synth combination anywhere
| |
The new song is growing on me with each time I hear it. Just a light, enjoyable listen that isn’t much like their metal stuff, the more emotional songs, or prog epics.
| |
Yeah, it's a good tune. Very recognizable as a PT song, but with just enough different quirks to make it stand out
| |
That bass reminds a lot to KOF 97, so sweet, i'm so glad they are back at last
| |
"is this djent"
Most def
| |
Djentupine Tree
| |
i had a dream i was listening to the new PT album and it was sick.
And then I woke up
| |
does this riff hard?
| |
You woke up on 24th June, listened the new PT album and it was, in fact, sick.
| |
Porcupine Men
| |
Riffs hard as fuck 🤘🏻
| |
sounds more like OSI this time.
