Man everything their vocalist touches turns to dookie.
|
| |
Damn, what a budget m/
|
| |
Honestly, I don't know how no one else is annoyed by the fact that the vocalist does the same shit each line. Every phrase is so robotic and crescendos at the same moment at the end of each word in every song.
|
| |
sick video albums gonna rip
|
| |
That production value holy shit. Way cool. Album is gonna rule m/
|
| |
"Honestly, I don't know how no one else is annoyed by the fact that the vocalist does the same shit each line."
Because Jens sounds so fucking brutal and awesome that who cares? This is a pretty weird time to complain about him, because imo he sounds better here than he has in years.
|
| |
"because imo he sounds better here than he has in years."
he has sounded the same on every shuggah album since it's inception lol
|
| |
"I listen to Meshuggah because of Jens' vocals"
Said no one, ever
|
| |
Not dissing on Jens though, he rules. Never change, Jens.
|
| |
I always thought Jens had an "old man yelling" quality to his vocals lol. Rivers of Nihil vocalist too.
|
| |
He sounds great. Always has.
|
| |
"he has sounded the same on every shuggah album since it's inception lol"
^^This
@Monuments this is true but when he does the same thing on every song it's hard to ignore. And being brutal gets you only so many points when your brutality is so cookie cutter it's almost a parody of itself. Dude is actually the worst vocalist in metal and I'd stand by that statement any day.
|
| |
jens' vocals are another rhythm instrument, the band themselves say this
|
| |
Well then that makes it even more pathetic that the dude hasn't done anything rhythmically interesting in two decades. It's the tone, the timber, the cadence. All of it is so bland.
|
| |
fascinating that you continue to listen to them then
|
| |
I mean to me he sounds way different on Violent Sleep than on this but ::shrug::
|
| |
@el_newg I guess I'm just an optimist. I want to believe that this band will do something exciting instead of publishing album after album of emotionless rhythmic exercises.
|
| |
Alright we get it you don't like Meshuggah
|
| |
It's crazy to me that Walrus and I exist in the same universe. You're like me, if I was the absolute complete opposite person.
|
| |
@Jayender I can keep going if you want!
@Lucca I'm not sure how to take that but I'll assume it's a compliment.
|
| |
it wasn’t, you tard
DEI or DIE
|
| |
Yeah no, you should just stop talking.
|
| |
"Because Jens sounds so fucking brutal and awesome that who cares? This is a pretty weird time to complain about him, because imo he sounds better here than he has in years."
Undeniably better than the last album
|
| |
Good song and video, why is it so funny when everyone falls into the hole.
"the tone, the timber, the cadence" lol
|
| |
Wait I'm listening to old Meshuggah now, he absolutely does not sound the same lol
@Walrus - it wasn't
@DType - m/
|
| |
"it wasn’t, you tard" haven't heard that word in a while. You're actually an embarrassing human being. Be better.
|
| |
Jens’ vocals fit this band’s music perfectly. Even on the albums I’m not too keen on, he gave a really strong performance.
|
| |
Band is the most overrated thing to ever exist. Ya'll are really short tempered for no reason. It's like people can't have opinion and develop it...
|
| |
5.0 classic
At the Gates Slaughter of the Soul
|
| |
Like I said...opinion;)
|
| |
slaughter of the soul is one of the best dm ablums ever made so fvck yeah it's a 5 bros
buuuuuuuuut meshuggah is the fvckin' tits and are way better as a band than at the gates
|
| |
I can understand why people love Meshuggah, but they do nothing for me. Good for the people who love them, they're getting a new album.
|
| |
you could say that about any band ever
|
| |
just goes to show the haters can’t hold strong opinions against this band
|
| |
hope you still fall on that rusty spike walrus
|
| |
The video looks the part but it was aight at the end
|
| |
Good video and song, album will inevitably rule.
|
| |
Every phrase so robotic
and crescendos at the same moment
these are meshuggah lyrics?
|
| |
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE VERYPHRAAAAAAAAAASE
IS SO RO BO TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC
AND CRESCENDOS AT THE SAAAAAAAAAAAAAME
MOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENT
|
| |
its weird people choose now to trash the vocalist on this album, on previous albums he was less dynamic and had less emotional range than here yet I never heard anyone criticizing him then on the past three albums or so.
strange, i'd even say he has more range on here than ever before.
|
| |
Oh shit👌there they go again
|
| |
Personally, I wasn't seriously criticizing the vocalist, just having fun.
I really like this song.
|
| |
I love the abstract yet dystopic vibe all their recent videos transpire
|
| |
directed by Scott Hansen... as in Tycho?
|
| |
I wonder why so many bands have been making dystopic videos and songs about being physically altered and mind controlled lately.
Muse. Won't stand down.
Silverstein. Ultraviolet.
Rabbit Junk. Pathogenesis.
And now, Meshuggah. Abysmal Eye and its dark metallic liquid similar to the one in Terminator 6.
|
| |
Lol what in the hell are those examples?
|
| |
very hypnotic, reminiscent of bleed.
|
| |
I will never understand what's so special about this band
|
| |
i mean cheq chaosphere it goes hrd
|
| |
"I will never understand what's so special about this band"
I understand not liking them but clearly they are special. Top notch talent and incredibly unique and influential. There aren't many people who can successfully cover their songs on drums. I've seen some great covers of their stuff but it's always top tier drummers
|
| |
haake is a avant-garde machine man for sure
|
| |
Wait, this is a NEW song?
|
| |
Jens is a sick vocalist. Nobody faults their favorite band's vocalists for not innovating/changing their vox style every album, it's a lame point for Meshuggah. I do love the groove on this track, but I'm waiting to see if they have more cool stuff on the full release.
|
| |
thank god for that seizure warning
|
| |
Jens is one of the most iconic voices in metal, easily. Song destroys. Sounds like they're going back to the Catch 33 sound almost.
|
| |
Jens is great live cause he can exactly reproduce this but the problem is he takes no chances and does nothing interesting on album because of that.
|
| |
actually I've heard the prerelease and he does some beatboxing
and some eddie vedder style stuff, deep southern scrunge voice on some turnaround
he falsettos "I'm caged in liberty... in reverse" at one point and later in the same tune he repeats his own name a bunch like dj khaled
he makes breathy sounds at the mic in the last tune, big PHONK line ala she's a brick... houwse
he does some touching indie boy deliberately wavering off the note singing and he makes cat boy noises
|
| |
I have not yet participated in this weirdo of a thread but just came here to declare my love for Jens and his vox. LOVE his style he's absolutely essential to the band and to my enjoyment of their music.
This is mega true for me too: "Jens is one of the most iconic voices in metal, easily."
|
| |
Literally this whole thread is about Jens Kidman. At least we're focused here.
Death metal is an amazing genre. Black metal is, too. And about half of those vocalists only do one thing, which anyone can imitate to at least a rudimentary degree. Jens always sounds exactly like himself, like he belongs in Meshuggah, and the consistency and endurance on every album and every tour is pretty fucking impressive. I've never heard him sound off.
And nah, he def sounded more raw and less refined around Chaosphere. Sounded more shouty than guttural/grunty before that. Settling into his signature tone when they got 8-strings was very fortunate timing.
|
| |
^ pasta's back on the menu boys
|
| |
I think the sameyness criticism of Jens is valid even though it's funny given that this is Meshuggah we're talking about.
Still, he's easily the least interesting part of the band's sound.
|
| |
Yo Jens Kidman doing Eddie Vedder vocals is the only thing this world truly needs
But for real yeah, Corpsegrinder has been doing the same shit for over 20 years and its amazing and none of you seem to give a shit lol. I can name a thousand vocalists like this, but everyone picks on my poor Swedish boy
|
| |
I want Lucca to make a list where he names a thousand vocalists doing the same shit. The balls in your court champ.
|
| |
I know this going to sound like Shuggah' but I don't give a shit. Bring on that rhythmic pummel, now!
|
| |
Also Jens vocals are not the problem. Yeah they are "samey" but they are really just another texture of the rhythmic delivery of the rest of the band. Think of it as another 8 string banging out a different line, something you can ride on each song. That's where the differences start to show from song to song.
|
| |
Yeah but he does the same thing in each song. Would their guitarist get away with it if they wrote the same riff each song? It just doesn't make sense to me but I'm not gonna change anyone's opinion, just came to express my personal beef with the band.
|
| |
yea man you got a fuckin chip on your shoulder for dumbass auditory reasons
he’s literally not doing the same thing and you’re not a vocalist or coach to say otherwise
opinion, sure let it fly. you can also shove it.
|
| |
Tusk was a bad movie.
|
| |
But it taps into some weird subconscious fears. I swear I had a nightmare along the lines of Tusk about a decade before the movie came out.
|
| |
Eh, almost every body horror movie I've seen was like a billion times better imo.
I do love Kevin Smith as a personality and I have some strong nostalgia with his older films (Clerks is still a 5/5).
But this comment thread isn't making me want to revisit anything involving Walruses for a very long time.
|
| |
"5'd" Haken the Mountain. Nuff said
|
| |
"you got a fuckin chip on your shoulder for dumbass auditory reasons"
I want you to read that comment back to yourself and think about what you were actually trying to say
"5.d" Hurt's Vol. II Nuff said.
|
| |
But Hurt's Vol II is a 5 though, silly goose
|
| |
Why is Jens’ vocals an issue now? It’s always been this way.
|
| |
""5'd" Haken the Mountain. Nuff said"
based
|
| |
"Why is Jens’ vocals an issue now? It’s always been this way."
I lol'd.
|
| |
i don't think it's fair to diagnose jens as the problem when everyone else is equally as bad
|
| |
Equally as bad can still mean they're the best ever!!! I'll interpret it that way.
|
| |
He meant to say they're all equally baddies
|
| |
I know! Since he did not say that necessarily, it's open to interpretation and can mean anything you want about their quality.
Call me an Optimist!
|
| |
I don't just not think Jens is bad, I actually love him lmao
It's funny to see Walrus take here because Jens is weirdly one of my all time favorite metal vocalists. He just sounds so fucking intense 100% of the time, and to me he doesn't sound as 'annoyingly' monotonous as I guess he does to some others. I really can't imagine this band with anyone else.
I Am Colossus is a great example of him sounding like an absolute beast
|
| |
I fuckin love that hes monotonous. Suits the crushing nature of the music.
|
| |
"I don't just not think Jens is bad, I actually love him lmao"
"I really can't imagine this band with anyone else."
"I fuckin love that hes monotonous. Suits the crushing nature of the music."
100% agreed!!!! He's an all-timer for me.
|
| |
Jens is amazing. Anybody who disagrees is frankly wrong. Dude is a machine just like the rest of the band. I don't think there's any way they could ever find a vocalist that would complement their sound better than him
|
| |
