"offending religious feelings" is the most Christian right-wing accusation I've ever heard in my life lmao
and of course it's in Poland, only other place this would probably happen would be the U.S.
| |
imagine being polish
| |
Not that different from the US honestly. They just have to get creative and insidious with policy since “offending religious feelings” sounds so ridiculous and draconian.
| |
It's almost astounding to remember that there are countries in which the usually pseudo-edgy antics of bands like Behemoth are actually like...kind of daring and heretical. Goddamn.
| |
they should just try him for making lame music
| |
Great PR for separation of church and state
| |
"and of course it's in Poland, only other place this would probably happen would be the U.S."
Ireland
also probably Indonesia and the entire gulf peninsula... and chunks of Africa... actually fuck it yeah turns out there are more places in the world than the US, crazy
| |
Don't you lie to me you motherfucker
| |
Ireland is pretty based now. They legalized abortion a few years ago. Tons of youngsters are atheist
| |
I'm studying the 16th century Iberian Inquisition with my youngest, it's interesting how history repeats itself
| |
Evolution is over, now we’re just cyclical drones.
| |
Hahah hope you're wrong, for all our sakes
| |
It's wild you can still get prison time for shit like this
| |
While Nergal is a cringelord even he can look like the hero against christian ultras. Critical support.
| |
This is the same guy that beat his wife or something right? Did he get prosecuted for that?
| |
?????? um what???
| |
you mean the dude from Vektor???
| |
That's the one. I just looked up his dog passing article.
| |
What did Nergnort do last time?
| |
I always eyeroll this guys edgelord antics until shit like this happens and I remember there are actually serious repercussions for this shit there
| |
It sucks they can keep doing this to him
| |
last time it was when he ripped up a bible on stage and said christianity was like an evil cult or something obscenely minor like that. it was when he was engaged to Doda and they also tried to get her for saying something similarly banal.
| |
That’s fucked up. It’s funny that like, over here Behemoth is basically Hot Topic tier edgy. i guess everything is relative. If the benign shit they are doing is pissing off religious zealots enough to face prosecution then good for them for pushing back. I still think this band is cringe and trash but this changes my perspective a bit beyond the music sucking ass part.
| |
This actually calls to mind how Sinead O'Conner got lambasted after tearing up a picture of the Pope to call out the Catholic Church for its rampant sexual abuse. All this catering to religion that certain demographics expect EVERYONE else to do feels so 1150. I know religion has been the premier driving developmental force for humanity in MUCH of history, but it's okay to leave this shit behind.
| |
meanwhile in the USA evangelicals are trying to make interracial marriage illegal again
| |
jestem ja nergal
| |
This kind of stuff reminds me of when I went to the London Dungeons and they told you legit reasons people were put in prison/executed and there was a bunch of stuff like ‘suspicions of witchcraft’, ‘taking the lords name in vain’ ‘addressing the king with a dirty face’ (that was worth death that one) etc.
Nergal’s actions would make us all roll our eyes in most countries but the religious persecution he’s fighting against is real. People comparing Poland against the US don’t seem to remember you guys have free speech!
| |
@Flugmorph I am Polish, so what? You live under the stone or?
| |
o sht ww2 about to happen all over again
| |
> "they should just try him for making lame music" & "Nergal is a cringelord"
[2]
The sentence should be taking away his smartphone.
| |
"It's almost astounding to remember that there are countries in which the usually pseudo-edgy antics of bands like Behemoth are actually like...kind of daring and heretical. Goddamn."
[2]
| |
I'll have you know that Flug has an extremely nice stone!
| |
I see anymore slander in this thread I'll have y'all standing trial! This is your only warning!
| |
lmao my stone is as smooth and shiny as my brain
| |
"and of course it's in Poland, only other place this would probably happen would be the U.S."
may i introduce you to Russia, where self-awareness goes to die
| |
you guys think Behemoth would have moved on and done better things if only it weren't for Poland's infamously brittle temper, making it too easy to be an edgelord?
like if the laws just said "fuck it, we don't even care" Nergal and the gang would have to try harder next time
| |
Fucking blasphemy trial in 2023, this shit is so stupid.
| |
He's a total cornball but he should have the right to say whatever he wants with regards to religion.
| |
'It's almost astounding to remember that there are countries in which the usually pseudo-edgy antics of bands like Behemoth are actually like...kind of daring and heretical. Goddamn.' (2)
yeah, honestly this is making me want to revisit their stuff and see if I can get into it. Adds a new layer of 'wow, so this shit is actually real' to things. Easily forgotten from where some of us are sitting.
| |
To say this would happen in the US is idiotic and shows no knowledge of the Libertarian and Classical Liberal foundations of this great country
| |
??? Have you been paying attentions to politics the past 10 years? Most people don't know or care that most of the founding fathers were deists or libertarians. Most GOP people think America is a "Christian nation". Much of the country doesn't care about its foundations. What are the foundations really worth even? They were touting that all men are created equal as they owned slaves. All the anti-trans laws popping up are in the same family as this blasphemy shit, given that so much of right-wingism is based upon either religion or xenophobia, which is also in large part a byproduct of organized religion.
| |
everyone who comments past this post is a poseur!
| |
*strikes pose*
| |
Lock him up, this is an affront to god.
| |
Nergal is just too edgy and needs to tone it down, blasphemy to the point of legal action being taken against you means you're probably going too far.
He said everything he needed to say with The Satanist anyways. Everything since then has seemed juvenile
| |
jay you good? wtf is this garbage take.
| |
Jay yikes bro
| |
That was an eons tier take on the situation
| |
I mean like
That's kind of the thing isn't it?? "Offending religious feelings" is absolutely not problematic nor should it be a punishable offense because that is what it is. An offense. It is, for as edgy and silly as it may be, his disdain for Christianity that got him in trouble. Big religion already has more power and influence than it ever should have and this only makes it's reigns even tighter.
| |
"the case originates from an image posted by Nergal in 2019 of himself stomping on a photo of the Virgin Mary"
death penalty immediately
| |
My point is he's been beating a dead horse for far too long. I think the situation is ridiculous too and he should have the right to say what he believes in, but he should leave well enough alone if he's getting into legal trouble.
| |
I don’t think religious laws like that are “well enough alone” at all. Surely you can take that logic and apply it to other people rebelling and protesting against injustice and see how stupid it is to apply it here
| |
True. Injustice in injustice, you're right. Nergal has just been annoying me lately with his overt edginess and he needs to chill out a bit. That's all I was trying to say.
| |
RIP those poor, fragile religious believers and their regressive feelings
| |
Right on jay, bless ya
| |
later bozo
