Warheart! With no remains of compassion or love!
Warheart! Hate your fellow as yourself!
Hatebreeder is Bodoms’ 2nd album, and by far their best to date. It was released in 1999; and it takes Extreme Power Metal to, err…extremes.
Guitars-
By now all of us have heard about the greatness of
Alexi Laiho and his mad leads, and this album holds true to his title. His leads are incredible, and the melodies that he produces that are in each and every song are insane. Fast, ripping, shredding, whatever, but just listen to ‘
Children Of Bodom’ to get a mere glimpse of the power that Alexi beholds. Speaking of guitar work, we can’t just leave
Alexander Kuoppala out of the conversation. He shines whenever Alexi is doing his thing, you must take note on what he does in every song.
Keyboards
Keyboards. Wow. I absolutely love the atmosphere that
Janne Warman includes in this band, and not just that, if you heard anything about this band, you know that this guy has leads. Yes, leads, and they are just as shattering as Alexi’s; sometimes he even plays along with him. If you have any sense, you will listen to '
Hatebreeder' (the song) and be amazed.
Bass/Drums-
Bass is prominent here, although as with most any Metal band, you wont hear the bass often. When the guitars are crushing with the keyboards and pounding with the drums, you can’t hear it, but that doesn’t overshadow
Hennka T. Blacksmith. Take '
Warheart', he can play just as well as the next guy. Now for the drums. I dunno much about drums, but it seems like the same thing over and over again, witch is double kick with machine-gun like snare hitting. Now I don’t mind it, because I drown it out with the rest of the band playing, but just a note of caution.
Lyrics/Vocals/Production
Alexis lyrics…well, at least most of them are straight-forward! He isn't the best lyicalist in the world, and I can see where people dislike them at some point, because with lyrics like this (from Hatebreeder)...
Never seen the fooled beast inside of me,
well I'm an asshole, and I really will always be
So why now, oh let it be,
is that so ***ing hard, oh be dead, I'm free
…it’s hard not to go “O.K.?”, but people who love this band (like me) manage. Besides, his screaming is excellent, bloodcurdling, high pitch screams come ripping out of Laihos vocal cords. The production is top-notch, everything comes crystal-clear, the leads are screaming, drums are blasting, keyboards sound happy (mostly), everything is sharp.
Well, that’s my point on the awesome album entitled Hatebreeder. Final rating…
4.5-5
Constructive criticism is much appreciated!
