Review Summary: LP new CD was much anticipated. BUt is the change for the better of the band

Lets all imagine something real quick. Lets just pretend that Linkin Park never made MTM. Lets just lose all our prejudice on this album as you read this review. Alright now open your eyes. Do you feel no prejudice at this moment. If you still do, please don’t neg this review because you hate LP or MTM. I don’t really like Opeth, and I don’t go negging everything they have. That said, lets move on.

Linkin Park hit the scene in 2001 with their great debut Hybrid Theory. Featuring 12 tracks of nonstop Rap/Rock madness, many critics wondered if it could be topped? LP answered that question when 2003 saw the release of Meteora. Even if it was over produced, it proved almost worthy of its precessor. Me and my friend often repeat the slogan, Hybrid Theory makes Meteora look like ***, and Meteora kicked ASS. Meanwhile LP slaved away for four years making their newest CD, the yet to be titled Minutes to Midnight. April 2nd , 2007 saw the release of the new single What I’ve Done, the single almost shocked me with its anti-distorted guitars and redemption themed lyrics. May 25th saw the release of the actual album Minutes to Midnight, which I got my hands on a week later.

My first impressions of the album was blown away. I couldn’t believe how good LP was with such a drastic change. Later when I was listening more intently, I did discover a few flaws. This kind of shocked me again, but then again, it sort of had to have flaws. The first was the song Given Up, with its blatently suicidal lyrics and Chester singing f-words. The song itself lived up to my expectations, but Chester was never meant to cuss, as he proved in his duet with Jay-Z in his Numb/Encore collaboration. The scream for 17 seconds was really nice though. The second was the blatant ripping off of U2 in the song Shadow of the Day. Everything in that song was stolen from U2 at some point. The song still is enjoyable, but the guilt is ever present. The song really isn’t as long LP claims, as a hidden track starts near the end which leads into What I’ve Done. The hit single Bleed It Out is too short and needed a better solo at the end, but otherwise its one of my favorite tracks. The song In Pieces seems dirge like and slow until it comes to a great solo from Brad Delson.

Other from those tracks, the album is really quite good. I recommend it to any LP fan out there and to anyone else.

Pros
Great new CD
Change of sound for the better

Cons
Flaws in some songs
Cussing
Shadow of the Day

Recommended tracks
Valentines Day
No More Sorrow
The Little Things Give You Away
Hands Held High

Oh, boy, you are going to get so flamed . This album is pretty fine if you ask me, despite Hybrid Theory still being LP's best. Review could have been better written, it has almost no information at all.

This sure as hell doesn't read as a 5, and this review was pretty bad as well.

How can you give an album a 5 if it has flaws?

This review is pretty bad overall. Not because you're giving LP a 5, but there's hardly sufficient backup to justify it; and giving LP a top-notch score needs some justifying.

This is a poor review, one paragraph talks about how you or your review doesnt want to get flamed. The next just talks about there past two albums; like you cant just go read those reviews.

And if this album is a "5 Star Classic" then it cant be summed up in just the one remaining paragraph you have.

And like Oblivioncry said classic albums dont have flaws and songs are not listed as cons....

I wonder sometimes if Brad Delson considers himself a good guitarist?

Hmm, a 5 rating with more cons than pros, that's odd.

A 5 doesn't mean perfect guys, it means classic. Regardless, this review doesn't justify the rating on either of those qualifiers.

And omg cussing, t00 br00tal 4 Huck Finn!

You seem to contradict your rating quite a bit here. I think your new and naive to music so I won't bash this review/ album. This Message Edited On 01.07.08

Pretty empty review. I am on the entirely opposite end of the spectrum with you on this one. You didn't discuss the sound, so after I forgot all about this album and read it, I had no idea what it sounds like.

You should consider changing your recommendations. You should change Hybrid Theory to The Black Parade, because this is very far away from LP's Hybrid Theory days.

I really miss Hybrid Theory.

When I saw LINKIN PARK - MIDNIGHTS TO MIDNIGHT and then a big 5 next to the name, I wasnt surprised to see `
0 of 5 thought this review was well written`. It is a pretty bad review though.
