When I first heard 'Mr. Brightside', I admit that I was impressed, but I didn't want to buy the album at that time based on one single. Then 'All These Things I've Done' came out, but that didn't get much play on the radio and TV, so I never had the chance to get into that one. But when I heard 'Somebody Told Me', the song that made them huge here in the UK, I was really impressed. I decided that I would buy the album.
When I first played the album, I honestly only played the tracks 2, 3, 4 and 5. Those were the ones that I had heard before, and really what I was interesting in at the time. Those tracks were so good, so fresh, so original, and influenced by my favourite bands The Smiths and The Cure. It seemed a match made in heaven.
As I started listening to the rest of the album, I noticed it was very mixed. There were some really good tracks, such as 'On Top' and 'Midnight Show', as well as 'Andy, you're a star'. But some tracks made me cringe, such as 'Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll', which if you listen to sounds incredibly similar to Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody', which in itself is a mortal sin. And there is also 'Believe me Natalie' which is boring and sounds strangely like my ringtone.
But I do recommend you buy this album, Brandon Flowers has an amazing, unique voice and they have some 'killer' songs, like 'Mr. Brightside', 'Smile like you Mean it', 'Somebody Told Me' and 'All these things I've done'. Keep an eye on this band, maybe they'll release the record of the decade.
Keep listening,
sobelecta.
