Release Date: 1995 | Tracklist

It's my second favorite FNM disc behind Angel Dust...although I listen to this cd more because it's a bit more eclectic. Trey Spruance of Bungle was the new studio guitarist after Jim Martin left, which is an upgrade in my opinion. This album isn't all that consistant as Angel Dust, it's got alot of great tracks.

01 Get Out
It's an uptempo punk influenced song. It's not bad, but definately not the most original of tracks. 3/5

02 Richochet
I really like this track. The lyrics are pretty simplistic, as on most of the track on KFAD. This is the song with the infamous "It's always funny, until someone gets hurt and then it's just hilarious." I love melodic the build ups to chorus, it's very easy to sing along to. 4/5

03 Evidence
My favorite track on this album. It's one of the most relaxing tracks ever. It has alot of funk and soul...with slick guitar melodies, wha-guite hits, relaxing piano melodies and an oozing bassline. The chorus is great, with nice funky guitar melodies, great vocals and strings. In the falsetto parts Patton sounds a bit like George Michael. 5/5

04 The Gentle Art Of Making Enemies
I think this song is overrated, but alot of people think it's their best song. It shifts from uptempo rock to slower sequences driven by Bill Goulds bassline. 3.5/5

05 Star A.D.
This song is fantastic! It's a mixture of funk rock and jazz, and some parts really remind me of Mr Bungles self titled record. The vocals are great. Definately one of the best tracks on this cd. 4.5/5

06 Cuckoo For Caca
This is one of the freaky tracks, driven by a cool tom based beat. It's got some really hysteric vocals. It's not really one of my favorites tracks on this record. 2.5/5

07 Carahlo Voador
This is a very slow, relaxing bossa nova track...and it's sandwiched between the two heaviest tracks of the album. In the second verse, Patton speaks something in spanish or portugese, I'm not very sure. Very pleasant listen. 4/5

08 Ugly In The Morning
Another heavy track with some cool beats...still, it's the mellower tracks that stand out on this cd. The verses don't really bother me...but the chorus is awful. It's nowhere near the quality as other heavier tracks like "Jizzlobber" (on Angel Dust). 2.5/5

09 Digging The Grave
It's a pretty melodic punk-influenced song. Not bad, but nothing too impressive. 3/5

10 Take This Bottle
This country rock song is very cheesy, slow with a depressing feel. The vocals are great once again. The lyrics are very easy to sing along. 3.5/5

11 King For A Day
The longest track on the record. It's driven by acoustic guitar and a very soothing bassline. Love the chorus alot, and the song builds to a pretty epic climax, until it sorta fades out again. 4/5

12. What A Day
Another short uptempo rock track, it's really straightforward. I like it better than the other uptempo rock tracks...it's still distinct enough to be Faith No More. 4/5

13 The Last To Know
A slow melodic rock song with some amazing singing. This is one of the few tracks where Patton sings with some real emotion. It's not a very original song...but I love the positive mood that it brings. 4/5

14 Just A Man
Another really good track with very sappy verses and arranged chorus (and gospel choirs). In the third verse Patton sorta emulates female vocals as if he is singing a duet with himself. The chorus is once again a great singalong. A great album closer. 4.5/5

It's a very versatile record that's a really fun and accessible listen despite some weaker tracks. Definately worth consideration, since it's prolly really cheap nowadays to get.

I love this album. I think you scored some of the songs a little too low.

I've never been a FNM fan, but I must say you do present their music in a new light. However, I still have heavy doubts that I'll ever enjoy their music.

Great review, I mostly agree with you. I don't mind the heavier tracks so much, when I'm in the right mood. I love how Patton just goes nuts in "Cuckoo for Caca". It's not FNM's best, but it's still FNM.
Also, am I the only one who thinks that "Gentle art of making enemies" sounds a bit like System of a Down?

Faith No More jumped the shark after Angel Dust in my opinion. Fool for a Day was decent, but the style dropped into the mainstream mood very quickly. Though the songs werne't written for mainstream, the attitudes of the band members were. Disputes among the guys, people leaving, changing styles, Patton's attitudes and antics, all led to a band that wore out its welcome. This is the last disc of the 3 that people ever talk about, and usually rated the lowest.

I think System is riddled with Patton-band ripoffs. Whether they're doing an FNM or Mr. Bungle impression varies from song to song.

Top stuff. I scored this album for $3 AU. It's pretty solid. I wanted to review this one, but Orb beat me to it. I always enjoy your reviews Orb. You, along with Nacho and a few other guys are probably my favourite reviewers. Great stuff again.

You're definitely not the only one. Anyone with a good enough ear can tell you that. Also, there was/is going to be a Faith No More tribute album with "Nu-Metal" bands covering FNM songs. and System of A Down was/is going to cover "Cuckoo for Caca."

Nice Review Orb.
I tend to consider this album my least favorite of Faith No More's. But that doesn't mean I dont like it. ;)

This album also doesnt mix too well. it Almost sounds more like a compilation of songs just thrown in the mix.

I dont have a favorite on this CD. but here's some of the one's I like the most.

The Last To Know
Digging The Grave
King For A Day
Just a Man
Cuckoo for Caca
Get Out
Gentle Art Of Making Enemies

Solid CD, but I've got to say...lyrically, it's a bit immature. I love the sound on this album, though, with the strong bass presence. I actually like Digging the Grave alot, for some reason it's one of my favorites on the CD.

My favorite FNM album of all.

"Take This Bottle" is right up there with "I Started a Joke" and "Easy Like Sunday Morning". But my favorites have got to be "Get Out" and "Gentle Art of Making Enemies", as they both have the drum and bass heavy punchy verses with the melodic guitar Patton vocal rocking as a payoff in the chorus's.

This is definitly one of the most played albums on my PC! I like it alot, because its not as experimental as Angel Dust. Its way more straightforward and I just love the feel the album has to it! in means of sound and attitude! My favourite tracks are:

The Gentle Art of Making Enemies

Star AD

Cuckoo for Caca

Digging the Grave

Take This Bottle

aw man i'm having trouble deciding which FNM album I like best. This has a good majority of their best songs, however I feel this has the most filler as well. Songs like Ricochet, Evidence, Star A.D., and Just a Man are pretty much among their 10 best songs. However, Get Out, Ugly In the Morning, What a Day, and Take This Bottle are among their worst.

I was kinda disappointed & freaked out by this album. Angel Dust had the odd freaky moment but came out very well musically. The album just sounded like Mike Patton had gone mad & the songs just sounded weird to me. I did like Evidence though, great song.

Fuck the genres, its music.

Great album, Last To Know is such an amazing song, as is Evidence.
