THIS ALBUM IS FANTASTIC! It's even better than Frogstomp, although they are much different albums. Every single song is beautiful in it's own way. It is a fantastic listen & is extremely riveting. Just before this album was written, Daniel Johns suffered Anorexia & Depression, & almost died. So some of the songs on this album are hard to listen to & dark.
If this review is crap, sorry, but i'm only 12 years old.

& now for the review: (did I mention that this album is fantastic?)

1. Emotion Sickness - This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It is about Daniel Johns' diagnosis with Anorexia, & how he didn't even want to move. From the heavy Bridges of this song, to the quiet ending, this is a moving experience. 5/5

2. Anthem For The Year 2000 - We've all heard this song. The first single from Neon Ballroom is a kick a** head-banger, with a kick a** video. Even though it's about something boring like politics, it is still fresh with every listen. 4.5/5

3. Ana's Song (Open Fire) - This song is almost as incredible as Emotion Sickness. The drumming in this song is great, it shows how Ben Gillies can do something simple, but make it sound really good. Daniel's guitar is great too. 5/5

4. Spawn Again - A pretty weird song, a much heavier song than the rest of the album. Weird keyboards & booming drums & bass, with Daniel Johns screaming about animal liberation. The only song on the album written by someone else except for Daniel Johns, with Ben Gillies co-writing. 3/5

5. Miss You Love - A great ballad, with great vocals by Daniel, wich shows how good his voice has gotten. Chris's bass is awesome too. The lyrics aren't about an ex-girlfriend, but about how Daniel has no time to get into a relationship. A great song to listen to when your sad. 4.5/5

6. Dearest Helpless - Ben, Chris & Daniel do a great job with this song, with all of their instruments sounding great. Daniels angry voice shows in the chorous, "He's made you blind, you're better on your own." A strange bridge in the song, with flutes & Ben's beat turning into a swing. 4.5/5

7. Do You Feel The Same? - A cool song with a catchy riff & lyrics, Ben's drums once again are great. Daniels lyrics are about his bout with depression, he asks "Surely I Can't Be Depressed?" Chris's bass is brilliant. A great guitar solo too. 5/5

8. Black Tangled Heart - A strange intro to a strange song. Not one of my favourites, but it's still good. Laced with strings in the chorous. Daniels lyrics are wierd, "You may just be the one/For You." Once again, Ben's Drums & Chris's Bass are sublime. 3.5/5

9. Point Of View - A nice song with catchy lyrics, "Remember all that she can say/Is that she knows she want's it." Ben's usual beat is getting tired. Chris's Bass is OK. This is Daniel's Song, with great guitar & lyrics. 4/5

10. Satin Sheets - Another song like Spawn Again, but this time better, a good song to listen to if your angry, with everyone playing there instruments with force. A weird techno sort of Drum Beat in the verse. 3.5/5

11. Paint Pastel Princess - Another beautiful song, with a great intro by Daniel. A cool chorous, but I've got no idea what the lyrics are on about. Ben's durmming has picked up again. A bright song, with cool vocals. 5/5

12. Steam Will Rise - This is as good as Emotion Sickness for me. It was the best song at the concert. Cool bass line at the start by Chris. & Great drumming ny Ben. & cool guitar by Daniel. & Even cooler howls at the end by Daniel's dog Sweep! 5/5

So that was Neon Ballroom. A fantastic, kick a**, brilliant & exciting album by one of Australia's Finest, silverchair. Anyone will like this album, or at least a couple of songs off it.

This is an alright review, I guess. I don't think age should really be an excuse, though. I'm only 14.

I really don't like Silverchair, at all.

This is a very strong album. 'Emotion Sickness' is the perfect introduction with the slamming strings and David Helfgott (the Shine guy) on the creepy piano. Daniel Johns really proves himself here.

'Spawn Again' is also great (If a little eccentric) and 'Paint Pastel Princess' is cheerful and majestic.

This gets regular rotation in my CD player (along with Frogstomp).

Obviously you're not supposed to read reviews of bands you don't like.
This also pertains to reviewing an album you don't like.

I've heard of these guys but never heard them, and this review doesn't make me want to.This Message Edited On 02.14.07

I prefer Diorama to this, but Emotion Sickness is probably my favourite Silverchair song.
