Release Date: 2003 | Tracklist

m shadows - vox
synyster gates - lead
vengeance - rhythm
johnny christ - bass
the rev - drums

produced by mudrock

released - August 26, 2003

this is by far the best cd, i've listened to ever... period. this is their sophomore album, and its a big step (imo...) from their previous "Sounding the 7th Trumpet". The most obvious change is how Shadows has developed his vocals.

tracks
filler... waking the fallen - kind of a filler... leads into track two. gosh did Atreyu's "Blood Children" rip off this big time.

7/10...unholy confessions - the first single off the cd... a video should be released soon, which i dont think will gain too much publicity. starts with a nice harmonized guitar riff... very catchy chorus... not much else to the song.

9/10...chapter four - based off of the story of Cain and Abel from Chapter 4 of the Bible, Genesis. once again, it sort of begins with a harmonized guitar riff, after the ringing of the D G# G, D A A#... then the verse begins.. overdubbed vocals add a nice effect to the song, with one part screaming, the other singing. the chorus then begins... its very triumphant, that being for abel i assume.. next the post chorus, with the anger from Cain begins.. "i close my brothers eyes"... the song ends with an amazing solo...

9/10...remenissions - thats not even a real word. o well. but this song kicks arse. the classical style guitars in the chorus are just amazing.

8/10...desecrate through the reverance - r0ck. hard.

8/10...eternal rest - opening solo is insane. this song may be the hardest one on the album. im sure people will disagree maybe because of the ending. i dontknow.

9/10...second heartbeat - very very catchy song i suppose. the solo at the ending is yet again insane, and shows the true talent of gates. he's not just playing random scales or whatnot. every note he hits, has a purpose.

8/10...radiant eclipse - nice mix of screams and singing. the only track thats tuned to like C# or w/e.

10/10...i wont see you tonight part 1 - 8 minutes of glory. what a song this is. a true epic. pianos, a string section, awesome backing vox, soloes everywhere. whatelse could you ask for.

8/10...part 2 - continuation. MUCH HEAVIER than the first. like how they incorporate the chorus from pt 1 into the song. the solo in this track is chaotic.

7/10...clarivoyent disease - catchy lil song. i dont really know what else to say about it.

8/10...and all things will end - unfortunately this cd ends... but it goes out with a bang. especially for that like 3 minute solo at the end of the song. thats just crazy. this song really shows the A 7 X style.

so yes thats it. of course there will be controversy over whether Waking the Fallen or Sounding the 7th Trumpet is better. its just your opinion. they are both excellent albums from an excellent band. a band that stands out from all the other "rock" today.

Great Cd probably one of the best of 2003 in the genre. However I don't believe they will ever top Sounding the seventh trumpet. That cd just blew the entire genre out of the water.

Finish later? What the fuck are you thinking?

Anyways, when and if you ever finish it, ditch the track-by-track.

PS. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet was metalcore, but Waking the Fallen isn't one bit metalcore. Metal is the best label for it, as it combines elements of every metal sub-genre along with punk.

There was some punk on STST, but I don't think WTF is punk at all.

Ok, listen to "Second Heartbeat", or any other song with the "Woaaahhh!"'s.

My friend sent me a few A7X songs recently, and I was blown away by them. They fucking rock.

Though their first CD definately fell into the metalcore catagory, with it's definite punk and hardcore influences, I would say Waking The Fallen is solid metal, without the "core".

However, this has to be one of, if not the best CD I've ever listened to. Not only this one, but Sounding The 7th Trumpet also. These guys just continue to impress me. Should be seeing them live within the next few months.. Ive never been so psyched for a show before.

They basically became one of my favorite bands overnight. If youre one of the unlucky few that haven't heard them, you're missing out on some incredible music.

A7X is one of the best bands ever. It's way better than Sounding the 7th Trumpet if that's even possible. The singer sounds better and I think he improved. The lead guitaist is amazing. Again, every song is an epic and it just blows my mind. I just saw them live w/ My Chemical Romance and they played I Won't See You Tonight, both parts, and it was insane. buy this cd
Please change the title. They are not metalcore. They sound NOTHING like metalcore at all. Change it to like Melodic Hardcore because on their new album they went p.ussy on us. Sounding The Seventh Trumphet was SO much better than this album.

FYI - Metalcore is a lot more sludge influenced so they aren't anything like that. Thats why I'm saying change the fricking title.
How is it melodic hardcore? I don't find it to have "core" whatsoever.
And you say AX7 is punk because they say "Woah." Please stop. Just that you loose all room to speak your opinion. They aren't metal, they aren't hardcore, they are melodic metal then. They've got really soft slow parts in their songs.
Whoa there buddy, no need to get hostile, I was trying to be nice to you.

I didn't say they were punk because of the "Woah"'s, I simply highlighted it as evidence of punk influence in their music. As I've said MULTIPLE times, they are metal. I can fly with melodic metal, though, that fits them just about right.

The most punk Avenged Sevenfold has ever been on a song is in "Streets". That song sounds straight up exactly like your typical fast punk song.

Darkness Surrounding is a brilliant song, the backing vocals work so well. Chapter Four is awesome too. What pisses me off is the ignorant fucks who say they won't listne to hardcore music because "they just scream the whole time, that's not music." If they would listen to this CD, they'd find amazing melodies, catchy guitar riffs and all around kickass songs.

Where else will Odd Project be playing? I want to see them live really freakin bad.

I live by Seattle, will they ever play there? Or do they hate Seattle for some reason.
