This is the 3rd full length album from nfg. This was the one that got them known with hits like my friends over you and head on collision. Many consider this as their finest album. Lets go track by track.
Understatement(5/5)—excellent opener, way full of energy with a hard hitting guitar and drum sound. Jordans voice sounds good as it is not too high or nasally and chad sounds good with the “but you’re” screams. The pace lets up for a bit when Jordan does some singing with just a clean guitar but it closes with a bang.
My Friends Over You(6/5)—NFG’s greatest song ever written. Ultra catchy lead guitar with a cool metal sounding rhythm guitar riff. Cool lyrical idea and relatabilty make this their best song. Also a chorus that stays in you head forever after hearing it.
Sonny(3.5/5)—The fast pace of the album slows down a bit here. A cool intro with weird chords leads into a cool instrumental. Jordans singing is very good here and full of emotion as this is a song about the death of someone close(I think it was his grandfather.) A very cool drum beat from cyrus as he plays off beat hihat strokes.
Something I Call Personality(4/5)—A very fast, mosh pit, headbang song and nothing else. Not great lyrics but it doesn’t matter with this song. The intro and chorus make give you an incredible urge to break a chair over your head if you know what I mean. The only thing that stops this from getting a 5 is the mellower bridge part. It doesn’t work with this song.
Head On Collision(4.5/5)—The second single from the album. Very cool scratching guitar intro by chad. Verses are a little mellow but with cool instrumental parts. Very many different parts to the song and a lot of changes in beat make it a song that doesn’t get old fast.
Its Been A Summer(4/5)—Cool drum intro leads into awesome guitar. One of the best riffs on the album(even though its not really a riff). Verses are hard hitting and fast. Chorus is a little too emo for my taste and Jordans voice is a bit strained but the cool bridge makes up for it.
Forget My Name(5/5)—The intro makes this sound like a slow ballad or something but it kicks into high gear. It makes you wanna jump around. Awesome lyrics, awesome beat and just an awesome song. One of their best when played live. Jordans voice is spot on perfect and I think the dude from alkaline trio does some backing vocals.
Never Give Up(3.5/5)—Ahh some old skool nfg. This is pretty much what their first album sounds like. Good fast beat but boring lyrics and lack of change make it a song to skip over.
Great Houdini(1.5/5)—Low point of the album. Good vocal idea but a boring song that has nothing special about it. A below average track.
Singled Out(4/5)—Back too good stuff. High energy guitars and vocals make it a good song. Oddly they almost never play this live. A very cool bridge with the weird scream is pretty cool. Jordans voice is spot on here.
Belated(4/5)—Another good song with a great opening riff. The drums match it perfectly. An emo kind of song but it all comes together. Good song but nothing awesome about it.
Story So Far(5/5)—Great ender. Opens with a cool bass/drum thing. Very cool vocals which don’t really make a lot of sense but fit well with the song and rhythm. A very vocal oriented song. This song shows their development as a band and opens up many ideas for upcoming albums.
