Breakface, FACE BREAK
Apocalypse Now And Then (2:33) - Good way to start off the album. You'll be able to sense something different about them right off the bat but you wont be able to put your finger on it. Vocals definitely changed drastically but the music seems to have stayed in the lovely "Hot Damn" form. Andy Williams signature guitar tone but with the interlude, WOW the singing has improved ALOT. The jump from the "Last Night in Town" and "Hot Damn" was fairly big and now its only gotten better. 7/10

Kill The Music (3:14) - Hello GERARD WAY! To be honest I don't like MCR at all but I thought his vox fit in greatly with this song. The song had a breakdown feel to it the whole time. You could sense the circle pit in your head. 8/10

Bored Stiff (2:18) - First single/released song on the new album. I actually heard a demo of this song months ago. It felt like some days I liked it more then others but the song seriously grew on me. The best line on the album is also featured on this song "HEY THERE GIRLS!... I'm a cunt!" Reminds me of Logic Of Crocodiles... 9/10

Easy Tiger (3:02) - I love the lyrics and the "grungy" sound of the guitar on this track but I can never get into this song until the palm muted breakdown and the last minute of the song is golden. DOCTOR!! DOCTOR!!! 8/10

Tusk And Temper (3:56) - IS THAT CLEARR!!!! Definitely feels like a song that could of came off of "Hot Damn". The riff almost emulates identical to a song with a different fill and ending to it. Beautiful breakdown, I personally loved the screams and vox on this song more then others. It even had a southern rock type of lead going on mid way through the song. 8/10

The New Black (2:52) - Woah, this song started off differently! Keith singing to start off a song and doing so most of the way through the song? Keith = Rob Thomas~!?!?!? Holy god, COWBELL REUNION TOO! This may of been my favorite song on the album it definitely had all the elements with new and old that I loved. 10/10

Champing At The Bit (3:57) Hello Darly Palumbo! This is like a dream here... even if most of his vox come during the chorus and the outro. When Darly Palumbo puts his presence in a song the song definitely packs something extraordinary. This song was a good one with the usual ETID sound plus Darly Palumbo adding his share to the mix. Lovely... 8/10

Gloom And How it Gets That Way (1:57) One of the shortest songs but one of my favorites. Maybe it's because I can see the circle pit going on while this song is playing. This is the first song to get stuck in my head on this album. It wastes no time, gets to the point, breaks down, and kills. "DO WHAT YOUR MOTHER TELLS YOU!" 10/10

Guitared And Feathered (3:56) Another song thats been getting sported around with Bored Stiff. I like this song alot since it has another "Hot Damn" vibe towards it with the new type-o-vocals. The pinched harmonics were also sexy touches... 9/10

L'astronaut (3:05) Hmm maybe since I'm not quiet sure how to pronounce the title is why this song is so different. The guitar definitely starlights in this song in diversity with the intro riff and the ending. The way the vocals were produced and done in this song was absolutely amazing. The effects and backing done really gave the song an edge. 8/10

Pretty Dirty (3:33) THE GREAT AMERICAN MISCHIEF! What an ending song and a great song at that. It seems like Keith took singing tips from Darly Palumbo in this and WOW. The breakdown with the chants was godsent. 9.5/10

I do the musician ratings according to the genre standards...
Overall: 4/5
Guitars: 4 (Some of the riffs seem like copy cat riffs from other songs that they may of done. Then again some of the fills and add ons are MIND BLOWING... They definitely do rock out every second to the end of the song)
Bass: 2 (Sorely disappointment of the whole album. You get ex-Between The Buried And Me bassist Chris Brynes who produces masterpiece like work and you shut him out for most of the album? God please...
Drums: 4.5/5 (DOUBLE BASS BLOW BLOW BLOW, COWBELL!)
Vocals: 4 (I cant possibley rate this accurately since everyones going to have their own opinion. It's hit or miss and also depends on the type of music you listen too. Old ETID fans may actually be turned off by this new vocal style or relieved. It's hard to say but to say the least the singing only gets better with each album)
Artwork: 3.5 (It's weird.. the cover and back consist of snakes, eagle, fishy, and I think a cow riding a guitar.... O...k...)

Unexpected, Rape...
"Gutter phenomenon" is a term that was used in the 1950s to describe rock ''n roll music. It was society's reaction, at the time, to a style of music it considered 'sinful.' Rock music was actually viewed as a discredit to American society. The people at the time believed that rock music would lead to people's downfall. They thought rock ‘n roll would never last." - Every Time I die

It simply was sinful this album being the 4th coming and longly anticipated. Simply said if you put the Burial Plot E.P. and Gutter Phenomenon I would not be able to know that it was the same band that made both albums and music. It seems like Every Time I Die stuck with its main roots but decided to break dance on everything else. Picture a living room with a coffee table that was bought in the 1960's and everything else in the room was redecorated looking 2000'ish. No one can deny this was an ambitious attempt for the better or worse. Gerard Way (MCR a.k.a. albino goat) and Daryl Palumbo (glassjaw) worked on songs with Keith in some select songs. WOW! Keith doesn't even sound the same to be honest. The vocals sound alot chunkier then they used to be and my god the guitar has definitely stayed in the back yard but developped. I can barely put this album in words but to add it to their discography is a pleasure. It's a hit or miss for old ETID fans and for the new it will be punching them in the nose. I can see how old ETID fans can hate this album but then again ch-ch-ch-changes! It's inevitable but beautiful.

Meh, the few songs I had I found boring. They essentially used the same riff the whole time. And the vocals, I understand his voice matured but the Hot Damn! vocals were just prefect in my opinion and one of the main reasons I placed ETID above other metalcore acts.

A few of the songs remind me of Fight Paris with different vocals. Which isnt bad. Nice review, loving the the album so far. ETID could have done a full acoustic CD and i would be pleased. Love my boys.
