Review Summary: Genius album. It might not catch your attention at first, but give it a chance. Shows tons of potential.

Loom is a weird band. They are the first band I have listened to that has very complicated rhythms and time signatures, as well as other unlistenable elements, while still being just as catchy as they can be. It's very interesting, and at first listen you could contribute that to their violinist Kim, who seems to balance everything out and completely changes the music. After more listens, however, even the guitar lines are quite catchy. Despite the spastic rhythms and very odd chords, guitarist Mike Cundick seems to do everything right.

Selva Molhada is this bands first full length record, and it shows tons of potential for this bands future...I'm excited for them. This cd is just pure genius in so many different ways. It's genius in the way they seem to make screaming melodic by layering clean vocals on top of it. It's genius in the way that they have a violinist that isn't in there just to catch people's attention, and the violin adds so much harmony to the music. Here's a breakdown of the songs:

Ruckus: A great way to start off the album, starting with a catchy violin melody and then building up. This song has an interesting start-stop nature to it. It is one of the more progressively organized songs on the record, but it still makes sense.

Pockets: I hate the intro to this song. It's a bit annoying. After a while it builds up with dissonant guitar leads, and then calms down. I love this song when it gets slow. Then there is a killer guitar solo, it's pretty wicked. All in all a good song.

Caves: This song will immediately catch your attention with a crazy violin riff in the intro. This song has a really cool backup singing part from who I believe is the violinist. Other than that it is pretty average with the rest of the songs on the album.

Prizes: This is my favorite on the album, strictly because of the chorus. It has this amazing build up nature to it, and the pre-chorus riff from the guitarist leads perfectly into it. This song makes so much sense come to think of it; it is organized beautifully. I can't stress enough how cool the chorus of this song is.

Breath: This is a very slow song to start, and it's very relaxing. The intro of this song is one of the best parts of the cd, the guitar work blends with the violin so well. Vocally this is my favorite song off of the album, the lyrics are powerful and the singing is great. Definitely a must listen.

Still: The lyrics for this song is what stood out to me to begin with. This song has a few cool parts, but doesn't flow as well as some of the other songs.

Asphalt: The guitar really shines on this song, as well as the clean vocals. It starts out quite upbeat but slows down at parts. It kind of has a southern nature to it.

Surface: This song is very cool. It has some really cool parts rhythm wise that make you wanna dance, but then you fall over because the rhythm does a 180. The guitar work is absolutely crazy in this song. I think the drummer shines the most in this song though, just because of the rhythmic nature of it.

Weaving: Funny enough, in an odd way, the guitar riffs on this song kind of remind me of Minus the Bear. Very odd to pair those two bands but the guitar work sounds similar to me. This song has a very intense build up part followed by a sweet guitar riff. The bass lines on this song are awesome.

Eons: The intro has a really cool harmonic part on the guitar. Then it completely changes...and then changes again. Somehow, and I don't know how, but this song flows incredibly well despite the progressive nature to it. The gang vocals are the stand out part in this song. They combine singing, screaming, and chanting all in one. The lyrics on this part are pretty cool too. Great ending to a great album.

@supertouchox2 they are really one of the most unique bands I know so it's hard to categorize them. I would have to say kind of a progressive/posthardcore/math type deal but idk.
