Haste The Day has received allot of criticism lately due to there style changes and members leaving to date there is only one original member. Many people like there old screaming style with Jimmy Ryan as the front man with there albums Burning Bridges and When Everything Falls. "Old Haste The Day" for me was good for there in your face breakdowns and heavy screaming from Jimmy who may have sounded like he was killing a cat but hey it was heavy and we loved it.
When Stephen took over I was skeptical at first but after Pressure The Hinges I realized he had talents that Jimmy did not. Stephen was good becuase he was able to harmonize with the other members as well as scream so he bright something new to the group and livened them up. After Dreamer though I felt like the album was much to short and felt rushed due to leaving members. Then they announce a new album Attack of The Wolf King with only one original member this time so how does it sound? Surprisingly it is very different, but still very good and Haste The Day bring something new to the table. They are not changing the way we look at metal but for Haste The Day it is somewhat of a evolution.
The first thing I like about it is the continual harmonization of Stephen and the new member Scotty most notably in the track White As Snow. Stephen vocals are very good and there are even some screaming moments were I turn around and go wow that was Stephen?Another good thing is it is allot more technical which either you are going to love or hate. There is not as many breakdowns as prior Haste The Day albums but there are tons of songs were the guitar work is very impressed is at its best from any other Haste The Day album.Songs like Crush Resistance and wake up The Sun have very impressive guitar work and I applaud Haste The Day for taking a different approach. I also like how the drums ride perfectly with the guitar riffs with double bass that just plays off the guitar.
But there are flaws to this album such as the song My Name Is Darkness it is a little over two minutes and vocals don't even come into it until a minute into the track. The vocals are not that good and its a very short song and leaves you thinking what is the point. Also several tracks fail to stand out, but overall this is a great album it brings not a whole lot new for metal like I said but for Haste the Day very good job guys. I have met them at several concerts and they are great guys with a passion for music. If you like the old Haste The Day maybe this is not for you but still has allot to offer pick it up and decide for yourself. Also pick up the bonus edition because the cover of the Black Eyed Peas Meet Me Halfway song is a incredible cover.
