Review Summary: a short review of Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, my first review
i think that this album shows a lot of who the band are. it shows the same raw music that people have been missing since the first songs from the black parade were leaked; they had no doubt changed their style. this album also shows a lot about the transition from Matt Peisler to Bob Bryar, showing the album inbetween Peisler's 'I brought you my bullets you brought me your love' and Bryar's 'the black parade' with the obvious different sounds.
This album had the main themes of love and, obviously, revenge. From the fast paced angry 'I'm not okay (I promise)' to the slower goodbye song 'Helena' you can see a variety of memories and emotions that this band seem to have lost for the theatrical 'the black parade' which will be greatly missed.
Although this album widely is seen as the beginning of them selling out, personally I think it just shows another transitional period of their career. This is one of my favourite albums and the drama and passion that goes into this collection of songs brings to life that feeling of finding a band that was different; opening up a whole new world of music that has since been in disguise.
There is a great variety in this album, from the theatrical 'you know what they do to guys like us in prison' to the western themed 'Hang em high' to the teen angst of 'I'm not okay (I promise)' to the loss in 'Cemetary drive' and 'Helena' a new side of the band is shown in every slot.
With the musical talents of Ray Toro, Frank Iero, Mikey Way, Gerard Way and Matt Peisler/Bob Bryar bringing the music to life you can really see why so many devoted fans are drawn to them through this album.
Personally, this is probably my favourite album by MCR but from what I've heard it's like the marmite of the music world; you either love it or you hate it.
