Review Summary: Okay so like after some demo and two really super good albums, Atreyu got a lot better at writing songs and stuff.
First of all Alex's vocals are so insane. It sounds like he's coughing up all the blood he sucked out of girl's necks last night. I like how Brandon sings too, it reminds me of old Atreyu. Also the guitar riffs are like really melodic sometimes but also there are breakdowns!!! This album really shows you how emo and metalcore and pop punk can be mixed awesomely to have awesome results. It's kind of like baking a cake, only instead of being delicious, it's evil, dark, and gloomy. And it's mega vampiric, you know.
The album starts out with my favorite song called
The Creature. I really like the layering on Alex's vocals when he's like TWISTING AND TURNING AND CREEPING INSIDE that parts really cool. And Brandon has a good messege during the chorus. It's not about the person you are, it's all about the person you're trying, trying, trying to be. I hate fake people too so I really respect them for coming out with those lyrics. It's like when your friend is telling you they're sorry for being a jerk, and it's like yeah I love you but why'd you have to be a jerk. You know?
There's a lot of really cool double bass drumming like t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t on here. Also, there's really pretty guitars. Kind of like Cradle Of Filth but a lot more talented, and they're a lot less goth and more actually vampiric you know? Also, I normally don't like when boys spike their hair but Alex definitely pulls it off.
Anyway like I used to love old Atreyu and I think this is their last good album, they seem a lot less like vampires anymore and it kind of disappoints me.
