If you were to ask ten perfect strangers if they ever heard of Modest Mouse, they would look at like you like you escaped the wacky shack. The reason being: they've never heard of Modest Mouse, though I am sure that the fact they have no idea who you are is also a contributing factor. I am sad to say the majority of my friends have never heard of this band, and if they have, they haven't listened to their CD's. We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank is full of upbeat tunes and catchy lyrics that make you just want to dance.
The Cd starts off a tad slow. I will admit, the best songs are at the end and I at first thought it was meh when I heard the first few songs (dashboard being an exception). While March into the Sea starts out as a okay song, Dashboard comes out guns a blazing. Dashboard makes you want to jump out of your seat and dance (note to self: don't melt my dashboard blasting this song) no matter what strange looks you get from rabbis, parents, or feline friends. Missed the Boat makes me want to miss a boat, merely so I can sit on the dock singing this song, legs a dangling over the water, but of course nobody would join in, because nobody seems to have heard of any of their songs. We've Got Everything puts how i feel most of the time into words: that I know everything. Steam Engenius is just funny. If you try to imagine it, some musically inclined person born in a factory born in a far away galaxy? It brings a smile everytime I listen to it. Spitting Venom is what i consider to be the Mona Lisa of the Cd, for that is the first thing that comes to mind when I try to come up with a comparison. It is everything a song should be: catchy, memorable, and just overall fun to listen to. I can't help but tap my foot at the very least every time I listen to this song. People as places as people is equally as catchy, though if you can figure out the meaning to the title, you must have a Ph.D. in something or another, the title is riddle in riddle in riddle, but that does not affect the song one bit. While the Cd started a tad weak, it definately ends strong with Invisible. This is one of those songs that make you want to dance, and I don't think a better song could've been picked to end it. My verdict: listen to the Cd if you have never listened to it, you won't be dissapointed.
Best Songs:
1. Dashboard
2. Spitting Venom
3. People as Places as people
4. Invisible

a note to self is pointless in a review read by other people
they would look at like you like you

guns a blazing
legs a dangling
while "legs a dangling" is ridiculous in it's own right, these both should have "-"s between each word
overall, other than some spelling and grammar issues, your review does little more than scratch the surface. From reading your review, I have no idea what this sounds like.
But hey, I know you're capable of good writing, and this is your first, so have a pos
Edit: and while you didn't quite persuade me that I'd like this record, I'm going to check it out anyway

by the way, lots of people know Modest Mouse, especially on this site
Edit: Yeah, what he said ^^
one second too late
| | | I haven't listened to this album all the way, but Dashboard is so catchy.
| | | I've only heard Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon and Antarctica. And they both rule.

checking this record out now.
Dashboard has a super catchy intro. Hey, this song's pretty good.
I liked Good News for People Who Like Bad News, so this seems pretty decent
its a grower for me tho
| | | Ahhh Spitting Venom is sooooo good. I've never gotten into most of the album, I find MM to be pretty tough to listen to, but there are definitely some gems.
Not a bad first review, but it would look way more professional if you could section off the second paragraph into two, maybe even three.

this might be irrelevant, but none of their albums even compare to The Moon and Antartica

I would say maybe read some more reviews and take general note of how they're written.
And by "some more" I mean "a lot more"

you know the more i think about it, if you still want to use the blazing guns line, it should just be guns blazing, no hyphens and no "a" in the middle. the "a" in both that and "legs-a-dangling" give it an unnecessary accent
i don't mean to keep bashing your review, but I'm just trying to help :]

wtf
We've Got Everything puts how i feel most of the time into words: that I know everything.
this doesn't really describe the song to me at all and just comes across as pompous
though if you can figure out the meaning to the title, you must have a Ph.D. in something or another, the title is riddle in riddle in riddle, but that does not affect the song one bit.
may want to get rid of this

mentioning things like what you would do if you heard the song doesn't explain to me how I would like it, what I would like about it and how it sounds. And again, Modest Mouse isn't as obscure as you make them out to be. You also added too much silliness; you want the reader to take you seriously so that you can persuade them. No one can take a writer seriously who doesn't take his writing seriously. Humor is nice to add to keep your review interesting, but you have to implement it so that it isn't random or insufficient to the review.

Their worst album, although Superbus' comment is ridiculous. Review could use some serious detailing/editing/revising.

hey I completely agree with that.
the only other album I heard by them was GNFPWLBN (the one before this), and where it had some brilliant tracks (Float On, The World at Large), there were plenty of them that just never clicked with me, no matter how much i listened to them. this album's almost the exact same with me, too

strange review. not much detail, kind of vague. also, really short.

This band is the bomb.

I think I get it... you're just trying to be to quirky, right?
That really doesn't go over very well here without a lot more effort.
Don't get defensive, you're really reviewing like your having a one sided conversation and there is a lot of good critiques up there ^
I think you just need to switch mode and give it another try IMHO.
