Review Summary: Raw rock energy, Fast paced, and enjoyable.
Black Tide are a band that get you jumping from the start, to the finish. Light From Above is everything a rock album wants, whether it would be catchy , sing a-long lyrics or jumpy guitar riffs Light From Above is definitely worth the listen.
Light From Above has many good points and not too many low points. A definite highlight of the album is the opening track Shockwave from the first beat listeners are brought into a foot tapping atmosphere. Most of the songs on the album incorporate the same basic elements, thus being a driving drumkit, a solid if not to noticable bass line, two electric guitars, and a very rock-styled vocal lines. Black Tide show a tasteful rock element that is not restricted to this 'recipe' they incorperate other sounds and elements to make this album a more interesting listen, features include an acoustic introduction in the Warriors Of Time, vocal effects used in Shout add a different range of dynamics, this creates diversity and stops the songs blending into each other and creates a catchy song.
Tracks follow the same basic structure and much of the same musical techniques, it feels like simple is the key, and for the most part it works. There are feel good tracks including before mentioned Shout and Warriors Of Time which include very catchy chanting something that is not entirely out of the ordinary for rock bands, but is tasteful enough for the listener to chant along.
Black Tide may be new to the music scene and promote themselves through bands such as Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine but remain a breath of fresh air for the rock/metal community. Thier music is tasteful, catchy and can be played in most crouds.
Reccomends Include:
Warriors Of Time
Shout
Let Me
Enterprise
Never was a huge fan of these guys but I remember really enjoying "Shout", "Warriors of Time" and "Show Me The Way". "Shockwave" is okay I guess although I always felt like they could have done much more with it. Saw them live two years ago and they were pretty atrocious. the lead singer was obviously going through a rough patch in puberty and his shit was just all over place, a kind of shame considering the fact that even though these guys mostly suck, he had a pretty decent voice.
I quite liked this album, had some really good moments and sometimes to me came across as a hybrid of Megadeth and Motley Crue or Ratt. Some times it was dull mind you. They did show potential though, but their new stuff sounds crap thus far.
I agree with Shadowremains on the work in grammar, layout and spelling departments but not too bad other wise, think maybe needs a little more in depth but I guess not writing so much is needed sometimes as well :]
I really do think these kids had potential. While by no means a great album, unlike the one that followed it, Black Tide were at least trying with Light From Above. Between working with a heavy-meets-speed metal musical style and later transforming into what amounted to a BFMV clone, the former sounded better; not by much, and yet still.
Warriors of Time continues to be a sweet tune and a half. I can't really get enough of the intro.
