Wow, I didn’t think it would be true when Victory Records advertised on TV that the new Darkest Hour album named Undoing Ruin would be heavier than Slayer. Because of that I was enticed to buy this cd, which is my first Darkest Hour album and I must say it is way more than true. This music is some of the most brutal music I’ve ever heard. John Henry who is the screamer does an absolutely excellent job on this album and is now one of my favorite vocalists in Metal music. Kris Norris and Mike Schleibaum deliver some punishing riffs and at times some incredibly melodic parts on the guitars. Drummer Ryan Parrish dishes out some hard double bass and some good beats that keep everything really tight. Paul Burnette does an incredible job as the bassist holding everything together and delivers some great bass lines as well at times. This band mixes so well together and creates some awesome music that I love so much.
Even when I heard the slow parts
Pathos and
Ethos which have acoustic parts that I at first didn’t like, they eventually grew on me and I fell in love with them too. All of the songs are heavy and each have something special that I like. The released single
Convalescence is as mainstream as you will get on this album no mainstream hooks or anything. Not there should be, the music itself and even John’s screaming is hooky enough.
Sound the Surrender is probably my favorite song on here especially with that ending with the double bass and the guitars, absolutely amazing.
With a Thousand Words to Say but One, the first track takes a while to start, but when it does is absolutely amazing in every department. Once again, especially with the guitar and the drums are the m
The two slow breaks in the music that I already mentioned before,
Pathos and
Ethos, divide the album in a good spot with four songs being heavy then there is
Pathos, after that is one heavy song called
Low that has an amazing screaming chorus. After the one heavy song the other slow song comes in and after that there is another four heavy songs. I must say though that I didn’t expect the last four heavy songs to be as impressive as the first four heavy songs on the album, but they are all very good as well, especially the song
These Fevered Times which has some really sweet melodic guitar on it which was very nice to hear. The last song also on here
Tranquil is one of the most impressive songs on here coming in at over six minutes long this song features some great guitar parts including a very good solo and the little vocals that are on here are very good as well.
The Top Three Tracks-
