Release Date: 2003 | Tracklist

Review Summary: Despite not being as good as their debut, Linkin Park still manage to make another amazing album.

After the release of Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park became the most popular rock band in the world. They decided to capitalize on the success, and thus, in 2003, their second album, Meteora, was released.

If you have heard Hybrid Theory, then you'll pretty much know what to expect, as they retain the same nu metal sound of their debut. The album starts with a CD burner being smashed, and then goes into a nu metal fury. The songs, as with Hybrid Theory, are as good as they get for mainstream rock: It blends heaviness, catchiness, and melody perfectly.

While most of the songs follow the same basic nu metal style, there is some diversity. Breaking the Habit is an electronic dominated track, Nobody's Listening is almost straight up rap, and Session is an instrumental rock song with electronic elements.

The lyrics are about personal problems, as it was with the previous album. It is not the best lyrics ever, but they fit the mood of the songs perfectly.

The songs sound a bit more polished. For example, the guitars don't sound as distorted as Hybrid Theory. This, along with nostalgia, are the main reasons why I don't this as much as their debut, however, on it's own, it is an album that nu metal fans (however many there still are) should definitely check out.

The final thing I have to say about this album, is its length. It is very short, just being 36-37 minutes long, which makes it feel way too short, however the actual songs make up for the short length. Overall, another amazing effort from Linkin Park, and they never quite have been able to reach these levels since.

Yeah, I kind of regret naming myself that, because if I review another genre, I probably won't be taken seriously (but I guess I'll never get taken seriously in the first place.)
