Guitar distortion, rugged basslines, and staticky drum beats is basically all that Hit to Death in the Future Head consists of. The album is very noisy and rough, the Lips take basic rock music and add in some of their own special spice. The opening track Talkin' Bout the Smiling Deathporn Immortality Blues is a funky, distorted mess with a staticky sound and asmooth, somewhat druggy chorus. The Sun sounds like Wayne Coyne is on drugs, repeating the same two words over and over again over a simple guitar riff. The track is extremely catchy and addicting. Halloween on the Barbory Coast features a screaming guitar line and some hard pounding drum beats. It has a trippy and psychadelic vibe and happens to be one of my favorite Flaming Lips songs. The albums depressing and mellow track is You Have to be Joking which is just Coyne whispering lyrics over a soothing bassline. While Hit to Death in the Future Head contains many gems it also has many hit or miss tracks and some people will not dig the whole rough edged recording and guitar distortion. That being said I think this is a great album and is some of the best the band came up with in the earlier stages of their career.

Favorite Tracks:

-The Sun
-Halloween on the Barbory Coast
-Frogs
