Review Summary: Improvement. However, there are some flaws such as the whole story behind the album.
Blood on the Dance Floor are that controversial electropop duo who made really ridiculous and terribly-written lyrics about sex and partying and basically sounded like
Jeffree Star,
Justin Bieber and
Lil Wayne combined only with lyrics with a whole new level of ridiculousness. While the pop duo's previous records were nothing special at all and had some really sexual and very awful lyrics with ridiculous amounts of auto-tune, this record isn't as bad as their previous records. However, it isn't really something super special, but it looks like the duo are finally improving and are going in a different direction than just making another electropop/techno record like their previous material and making a pop/rap album.
This album has a more pop-rap style to it and pretty much it sounds like
Wiz Khalifa or
Drake. There is a lot more rapping on this album and you can hear a lot of
Eminem influences in the vocals. The vocals also are really angry and all "gangsta"-friendly. Moreover, the synthesizers play a completely different style now instead of your typical 8-bit or dance-pop stuff. It is basically just pop music with rapping. The drums are also more rhythmic and they actually seemed to have worked harder on their music. The album basically contains elements of pop, a little electronic, a touch of dubstep and a ton of hip-hop (including hardcore hip-hop/gangsta rap) and pop rap
The one major flaw of this album is how from what is heard, the album is pretty much an entire album to their so-called "haters", who I guess I am because when I first heard them, I thought they were just ridiculous. For example, the song "Crucified By Your Lies" is all about how Dahvie Vanity has been constantly accused of raping underaged girls and it seems it was his reaction to that viral Tumblr post called "The Truth About Dahvie Vanity". Weird thing is he says he doesn't care about the "haters" but he still writes songs about them which he even did with the acoustic song "Don't Wanna Be Like You". So therefore, he actually does. But writing about them is only going to make them give him more trouble and fuel their fire. The good thing is that he finally stopped writing the whole lyrics such as "I wanna *** you hard, I wanna feel you deep" and talking about blowjobs, sex and stuff. Although, the lyrics off this album express a lot of anger. In fact, they look like he's trying a little hard to be a "gangsta" or something.
