Review Summary: Would've been great as a single album. Second half needs some trimming, or just cutting all together.

The Fragile. Quite an amazing album. Except for one thing. The double album. The first half of the album is amazing, Somewhat Damaged moves into The Day The World Went Away, then straight to the instrumental song The Frail, onto The Wretched. Right after that we have possibly my favorite song on the album We're In This Together, and then moves into a great song The Fragile. People seem to hate Even Deeper, but I think it works well with the album, moving it into somewhat of a more melancholy state (plus I saw it live). La Mer brings almost nothing to the album.

But the album slips after the first half. The second side only has one semi-good song, Into The Void which could've been included on the first half. Trent could've taken it off the second half, and then just cut the second half. Why was Star****ers included on the album at the last minute? No clue.
Trent put time and effort into this album, because he had severe writers block after the classic The Downward Spiral. 5 years later, he releases an album that people have been waiting for, and holy ***, it's a double album. But the second half doesn't bring much and it could all be cut out if Trent wanted that.

Ripe (With Decay) seems like a song that would be a perfect ending to the first half, right after La Mer. The first half, again, is a great album and it would be awesome as a single album.

The second half, meh.

let me get this straight. you say there's only one 'semi-good' song on the whole of the second disc (that's half the album), and you still gave it a 4.5? lol

This is one of those albums I just can't get people not liking. Yeah, there are a couple tracks that leave something to be desired, but there is so much that works so well.

I honestly don't see why people single out this album when it comes to Trent's lyrics. PHM and TDS are far worse in that regard.
