Review Summary: Lana Sung Her Way to the Top, Its her show now....
Two years ago, the success of "Born to Die" pushed Lana Del Rey into stardom to such a degree that her national tour was soldout within minutes. All that success brought a sea of expectations for her. Her fans were already anticipating what she'll come up with in her next album.
Ultraviolence, her follow-up to Born to Die, may sound similar to her previous album but it does shows her talent to create some
downbeat and beautiful songs. On this new album, she stays true to the themes that worked so well on ‘Born to Die’—sadness, drugs, vulnerability! The whole album is built on ethereal chords, mid tempo sparse beats and whispery, deep vocals. Its eleven songs whimper, soothe, hypnotize and thrill.
Lana opens Ultraviolence with six-and-a-half-minute “Cruel World,” a slow burner psychedelic track about a vulnerable girl who just came out of a breakup.
Title track "Ultraviolence" and "West Coast" are almost poetic mix of dreamy, lazy
vocals, bluesy guitars and mood. Ultraviolence is a provocative song depicting a woman who enjoys the punishment she faces in her love relationship.
Shades of Cool is a beautifully delicate track with a soaring chorus and stirring strings which ends with a soaring guitar solo.
'Old Money’ is a love song that carries a lot of emotions , pianos & violin provide the atmosphere , while Lana’s vocals breathe real effectiveness into the track.
With "Ultraviolence", Lana Del Rey has lived up to the expectations that arose with success of Born to Die.
"Ultraviolence" is a thrilling, complex and complete album that moves you with its beautiful lyrics, soulful vocals, woozy atmosphere created by melodious and at times haunting instrumentation. A treat for music lovers!
