Review Summary: fuck you
I’ve heard many great thrash albums in my life; but alas no one album matches the colossal aggression and complete balls of Morbid Saint’s first and only album “Spectrum of Death”. You’ve probably heard several reviews say something like “from the first moment blah blah it doesn’t let up til the final track”, however all those reviews lied to you in comparison to this album.
This is literally steel balls of death to your face for the entirety of its runtime, yet unlike albums like pleasure to kill, this has actual song writing chops. The riffs will grab your attention to start with and you’ll be thinking “yeah this is solid hard riffing stuff” then 2 minutes and 20 classic riffs later you’ll be in total disbelief that your speakers haven’t burst into flames or the vocalist hasn't climbed out of your ipod and ***ed your sister. Its so much more than just fast, hard riffs; its aggression harnessed and transformed into pure insanity that builds on the momentum of every previous moment and literally doesn't let up. I mean listen to “Assassin” or “Scars” and just ***ing marvel at how each guitar passage builds and flows with the ones around it, whilst never losing momentum. For realsies.
Instrumentality this is beyond awesome. As mentioned this album may as well be a “thrash’s greatest hits” of riffing and song writing, yet the drummer, vocalist and bassist also pull their weight. In order to complement the frantic and dynamic guitar work, drummer Lee Reynolds pulls out all the stops to keep his performance interesting and on par with the axemen and produces a truly awesome performance; one that helps to bring Spectrum of Death above the myriad of other extreme thrash albums.
Now vocalist Pat Lind truly ***ing owns. Not only is his voice totally balling, but his vocal delivery is a complete cut above any other thrash vocal performance ever. Lind’s voice is reminiscent of old school death metal whilst retaining the “yelling” energy central to the genre of thrash. “Crying for Death” features the best example of his abilities, with his blood curdling scream and peerless flow creating perfect chemistry with the riffs and drumming.
“blah blah this is an album all true thrash fans should hear etc” *** whoever says that in their reviews because it takes away from the importance and truth when I say that this is TRULY and HONESTLY something every thrash fan LITERALLY NEEDS TO ***ING HEAR, and all-round one of the best things thrash could ever hope to belch out. Featuring the hardest thrash riffs ever (legit), one of the best thrash vocal performances ever and song writing to make you feel like a ***ing moron for considering “Master of Puppets” a classic. Its time to strap in bitch because nothing you’ve heard and nothing anyone has said can prepare you for the true master class of extreme, aggressive thrash.
