Review Summary: We the hooligans outside of school again
Sayin don’t be a fool never follow rules again
Its late June 2013. I pull up redit and see a strange trending hip-hop album featuring Killer Mike (who I had not discovered yet) and EL-P. I remember enjoying it. The last release doesn't compare to the sheer power of this album though. The beats are frantic, and all the lyricism is top notch, beats roll off of the skilled rappers tongues like a seasoned snare drummer highlights his chops.
Ratatat. The album even features a song with Travis Barker who is obviously edging back into the hip-hop community. Over all I enjoy the quality of the beats, and the rapid fire delivery that I have come to expect with Killer Mike. I dislike some of the tone of the album, but this does not effect the sonic goodness that is Run The Jewels 2.
Some of the source material is spot on, and Killer Mike takes a menacing look at his fans,
"Fashion slave, you protestin' to get in a ***in' look book
Everything I scribble's like The Anarchist Cookbook
(Look good, posing in a centerfold of Crook Book)"
I believe this to be one of the stronger hip hop releases of the year, I will continue to look forward to this group tunes.
