Review Summary: An acoustic love story for the ages.
So Impossible is the Dashboard Confessional experience condensed within a four-song, fourteen-minute long experience that’s just as poignant and emotionally moving as a full album. Detailing the story of a lovestruck male who manages to score a date with the woman of his dreams, this is a “concept EP” by every sense of the phrase. The way Chris Carrabba’s voice grazes against his fervent acoustic strumming is a charm that every Dashboard release is able to capture, and it’s the raw emotion and heart that he puts into his music that makes something as short as this so sweet.
This EP just does a flawless job of summing up the feelings of accomplishment and also anxiety after finally striking gold with the one that you’ve been eyeing this whole time. Kickstarting with “For You to Notice”, a slow builder that gets into its groove after an absolutely heartwrenching second repetition of the main verse, the protagonist goes from desperately longing to making a move, frantically worrying about his choice of attire and ultimately receiving a kiss at the end of “Hands Down”, which bookends the tale in its acoustic showstopper form, with each
”you meant it” adding a new layer of accomplishment and triumph. The way Carrabba convincingly weaves through each emotion makes the listening experience so much more enjoyable and relatable, like it's us who are living the life of this fictional character. Even though he may be made up, the sentiments associated with the quest for love are all too real.
