Borderline hate this. I'm not a huge fan of these guys but Dead Horse was always their best record for my taste and I feel like this just lacks the raw power of the original. The vocals sound terrible. The drums are mixed weird as hell, not that they sounded great on the original, but they fit. And so and so on. I'm happy for anyone who enjoys this new version though.

hmmm generally not a big fan of this sort of thing but will check

this is pretty much exactly how they sound live. It’s okay but I’m probably never gonna listen to it again. Original is much much better.

This sounds better than the original if I’m being honest and taking off the nostalgia goggles, excellent review as well!

Absolutely unnecessary, couldn't get into it. Went back and listened to the original tho and it still vibes.
Now if only they'd play Hipsterectomy again...

idk what bolm is doing on this, half the time his vocals are overly enunciated absolutely no reason, and this era of the band just sounds way worse through the new era production. bleh

and the line change in and it's happening is grossly cringeworthy, I understand why it was changed but c'mon man, shit doesn't sound good. doesn't fit

thank you for blessing this with a review thread so i didn't have to, i'm probably gonna bump the original down to a 4.5 because they made my least favorite tracks my new favorite ones lol. the dual guitar attack that builds up on "Throwing Copper" is menacing as fuck, plus you can actually understand the lyrics on every song here. this is a rerecording/remastering done RIGHT

but i agree, i wish they woulda at least left the ''because ian curtis has left me hanging" line in there because the "change" doesn't actually change anything lol, just takes away the somewhat tongue-in-cheek nature of it

"plus you can actually understand the lyrics on every song here"
lmao pitiful criteria

on most albums, yes that would be typically expected. but in context to the original recordings (i.e. the bridge in "Cadence"), certain vocal lines were extremely hard to decipher on the original recording, so i'm just simply stating that there is a vast improvement on that front. it's not pitiful criteria if it's relative to the context of re-recording an album lol, that's why rerecordings/remasters exist in the first place; to improve on aspects that weren't fleshed out on the original, or am i mistaken?

it's worth buying if you're a fan, but if you didn't like the original (or the band at all to begin with), trashing the rerecording makes essentially little to no sense

And I can’t even tell what the lyric change is? I know he dropped Morrissey and said Ian was dead instead of hanging

he switched Morrissey with Wilco (which is kinda lame, but better than Morrissey i guess) and yeah that was the main one i noticed, but there a lot of simple lyric changes laden throughout that give the passages a better vocal flow (at least imo)

yeah this bumps, the best tracks from the original i can definitely see as being unnecessary (although hearing Honest Sleep re-recorded for the 1267th time could still never bother me), but the weaker tracks are undoubtedly perfected here. for anyone that's listened to both, what do you guys think of the re-recorded feature tracks (a la "Always Running, Never Looking Back" and the Classic™ "History Reshits itself) and other tracks that got a better production treatment like "Nine" and "Throwing Copper" ??? i will agree though, i feel like they could've done better with the new version of "Suckerfish," but the new version of "Swimming With Sharks" negates my feelings towards the new "Suckerfish" even though that's not really a proper criteria lol. i just love this album with all my heart, if my previous fanboy-laden comments haven't already made that obvious haha
