Review Summary: Life changing if you choose to accept it.
When life gets really overwhelming and serious, it is a fact that many people will turn to sorent in their personality or character traits which results in a process of self destruction. Invent Animate's latest EP is, of course, a tale of addiction and affliction but it is so much more than that. Whilst the music remains in their signature style that has been displayed throughout their career, this EP is a particularly special release for a multitude of reasons. I'm no stranger to addiction - for over half my life I've abused drugs (for many reasons aside from personal struggles/demons) but there comes a time when such destructive behaviour becomes too much. Either the addict dies or becomes even more consumed by their addiction - of course some people will get to the point where they realize the damage drugs can cause, both to the body and the mind. But the reason this EP hit me so hard wasn't because of the music - it was because it made me realize enough is enough.
Personal stories aside, The Sun Sleeps, As If It Never Was is a masterpiece. Despite it's sshort length, the passion and compelling nature of the subject matter is of an exceptionally brilliant standard. The guitars are inventive with rhythm, both in terms of the breakdowns interspersed between the superb riffs and great melodies. However, the standout feature of this EP is the vocal performance. Backed by the incredible quality of the music, the heartfelt and intensely powerful and moving performance is one that moves the soul.
If you like the band, you'll adore this. If you relate to the theme...
It might make you a better person.
