Review Summary: no need to speak Norwegian to enjoy sick riffs
Despite its meme-ready cover - that shit could pass for a post-modernist vaporwave gloubiboulga -,
Animorphs is an extremely serious record. Honningbarna's sixth album is a multi-coloured concentration of punk fury: hardcore rhythms, post-punk riffs, choruses that have a pop punky energy, a layer of noise and industrial rock to add some relief, and even tremolos straight out of black metal, which, together with the Norwegian punk vocals, take you directly to that other dimension where Kvelertak became the reference black metal band of the 2010s instead of Deafheaven. Yet what mainly transpires from
Animorphs is an intensity and an anthemic character lying halfway between Turnstile and Refused. Factor in a peachy production, and the record makes you want to furiously shake da booty while screaming the lyrics - if only we could understand them. The truth is, you don't need to know what to sing when you can yell yourself hoarse. It's almost even more enjoyable to bellow obviously incorrect lyrics when the music is so thrilling - the absolute banger "Ah Bliss" being the perfect example of an international punk hit.
