In short: who the fuck cares anymore, I don't and no one does
Sorry for my long hiatus. I’ve been trying to write both a book and make a video about two different bands (I'm focusing on the latter now because it's much easier.) There are like several reviews I’ve worked on that are unfinished so when I get the motivation to finish them, I will.
Also the reason I have permission to be so hostile is because their marketing for this album/what it is about is complete fucking bullshit (Source: their 2000 press Bio, way back machine:
http://www.wbr.com/brougham/bio.html). I hate when people try and cover up their music and lyrics under some pretentious guise and I WILL call it out, solely because it’s pretentious and fake.
I'm so tired of everything. Yes this is yet another ranting angry review but i do not forgive literal creeps. I was very angry and I will not forgive oakson seventy times seven. This was languising in development hell for months but after I clocked on to the "hubba rock" thing i lost my shit and forced myself to do something.
By the way I also had to buy the CD so I could find the credits as part of research. Predictably, because no one wants this shitty album, it arrived in sealed, mint condition with the hype sticker. Once I am done with it I am destroying it, either with fire or a microwave lol. Funnily enough, the albums worst produced/boring tracks (Bong Hits and Naw Mean) are produced/mixed/engineered by Jason Slater himself and the other songs have the involvement of other ppl, which doesn't surprise me in the slightest

that's the point of brougham tbh like nothing makes sense. I've said it before but a small good part doesn't make it a good song
Also BRUH

Sounds like this is a load of 'Bro ham'.

also sorry I feel like I owe yall an explaination as to why I got upset by 7th Grade and Hubba Rock.
When I was 12, I had someone in my year sexually assault me when I was in a tent on a Scouts trip (I remember, Ben.), and knowing how awfully rife sexual content was in my school (I used to be in a private school before I left when I was 13) always makes me so sick to think. After I moved schools, I was also harassed for three fucking years (age 14 to 16) by this another guy one guy who kept groping my ass and people laughed at it, found it funny. By this point, I had just grown so callous to it because I had been bullied and outcast by so many people but when I finally clocked onto what it actually meant years later I mentally lost it. I was a "man" back then but all of what "men" put me through just makes me not want to be a man anymore, if this is all it means (I'm a gender-bending non binary fiend now). I fucking hate you, George. I know who you are. I fucking hate you.
What Oakson suggests in "7th Grade" brings back all of this horrible stuff for me. Stop. Kids should not be thinking about "doing" when they're 12 and you as an adult should not be making a song about that. and you shouldnt be writing about having sex with a 14 year old "primadonna porn queen" (Hubba Rock) you motherfucking paedophile. Fuck you. Fuck you.

dude you dont wanna know how many times i made comments about luke being a creep on the work in progress document. Luke alone makes this album a 2/5 anyway outside of the "ew".
it made it hard to do the review without feeling a sense of repulsion I guess
Thank you though.

Just looked up the lyrics for seventh grade and yeah gotta agree, just brings up bad memories of my classmates/friends attitudes that'd cause me to cut ties with them shortly afterword. I also switched from private to public school that year and had to rebuild my social circle, was bigger but if anyone did mess with me they'd single out my breasts sooo shit like random classmates trying to 'jokingly' titty twister me became an every other week thing. Took awhile to get comfortable with my bodily dysphoria, and going through that made me forever wary of the so called 'social norms.'
The thing that irks me about the lyrics though is that it's presented as some sort of bravado 'i'm a badass' bullshit. I can get through some edgy lyrics but usually those are intended of poking fun at creeps(ex. beastie boys), this dude on the other hand seems unironically proud of being a douche like it's some sort of badge of honor.
