Review Summary: Fucking DEATH.
Ask yourself one simple question right now....do you enjoy riffs? It should be an easy yes or no answer. If your answer was no, you can kindly make your way back to the home page because Adversarial's sophomore album
Death, Endles Nothing and the Black Knife of Nihilism is most definitely NOT FOR YOU!
Now to the rest of you, this album is a bit of a shift from the now famous sound of Adversarial's debut
All Idols Fall Before the Hammer. Gone is the insane PING PING PING of the snare in favor of that particular sound not being so damn high in the mix. To be honest, the snare is what makes the debut so special to me personally. It gives it that unique aspect to put Adversarial's ultra muddy brand of blackened death metal in a league of its own. Snare production aside,
Death... is still one of the FILTHIEST death metal albums you will ever hear. Some may say that the production is *** and a little too murky. To that I say, you're listening to the wrong genre. Adversarial make an extremely dark brand of blackened death metal and they want it to sound exactly how it does, CHAOTIC! The guitar tone is mixed low and sounds like you're on a battlefield with assault rifles being fired into your eardrums at close range. The vox are gargling snarls that sound like the body of a deceased warrior coming back from beyond the grave.
Death... may not have the mystique of the debut or that one special aspect that really stands out. But it does match up in overall atmosphere and the sheer brutality and darkness that oozes from this albums demented pores. Too many blackened death metal bands opt for crystal clear production nowadays, amd while thats all well and good, it can sometimes take away from how authentic an album/band can sound. Adversarial have none of those problems. They are as authentic as it gets. Now we await their long anticipated third album being released this year...
