Intro:
Now I know what you"re thinking: what is this guy doing writing a review about a cd that isn"t even released yet? So I"ll be honest. I downloaded it illegally so I could check if this album is worth buying :naughty:. The second reason is that I waited for this album for a long time so I deserved to sneak a peak in my opinion. I"m going to buy the cd today, since it has been released today and I think it is pretty decent. Now for the review:

1: Blood 8.5/10
The thing that is most attractive about this song is the drumline. It"s simply genius. The guitar-part gets pretty annoying after a while and the lyrics are too mediocre. Still it all fits together and the singing is great and energetic. Overall this song sounds pretty alright and it"s a good starter for the cd.

2: Stop Looking 6.5/10
As I heard this song for the first time I was blown away by the intro. The rest of the song is pretty dissapointing compared with the intro and the lyrics are really clich". The bridge sounds crappy and there are too much repeated sequences throughout the whole song. One of the worst tracks on Getting Away With Murder, saved however by the intro.

3: Not Listening 8/10
This song proves that Papa Roach have learned from the great grunge-musicians of the early 90"s: sometimes simplicity does the trick. This song is not very complicated and this makes for an easygoing song. Still the lyrics are clich" so this still doesn"t make for an outstanding song.

4: Take Me 8.5/10
Ah this is more like it. The lyrics are less clich" and the interaction between backing vocals, vocals and drums is perfect. The guitar part is great and the bridge is right how a bridge should be. I can"t really describe what I mean, but it starts out pretty mellow and later it explodes.

5: Getting Away With Murder 7.5/10
I don"t really know what to think of this song. It doesn"t really fit. The lyrics aren"t great, but they"re okay. The intro is fine, but it just doesn"t sound like Papa Roach, and really it isn"t that genius, so I wouldn"t have made it title track. It is, however, a great choice as first single.

6: Be Free 8.5/10
Be Free *hum *. Perfect song for Papa Roach to show off their skills as musicians, but again not as lyricists. I mean come on this is not a freaking Anastacia song. It has a great feel and this would have been the second-best song for Getting Away With Murder if it weren"t for the lyrics. It has this old-skool vibe and I really dig that. Still a decent song.

7: Done With You 7.5/10
I"m not going to comment on the lyrics anymore, because I have given up all hope. I will just call this song the best sing-along-song I have heard since In The End, mainly because of the chorus. Help me" save me" tell me that the end is near" yeah that"s the sh*t"

8: Scars 9/10
Ah my personal fave on the cd. It"s an emotional song with decent lyrics and easy guitar-part, which even I could tab and so I did. I posted it on mxtabs and I was very proud that it was accepted and posted on the site. Going on" It is easy to play and to sing. I think many people will enjoy this song if it will be released on single. My guess is that this will happen, along with a non-performance-video (you know the kind where a story is told). Good job on this one dudes. :thumb:

9: Sometimes 9/10
Whoah :amaze:. Again I was overwhelmed with the intro. This song is almost as genius as Scars. It has a great solo and it just flows. Jacoby gives al he"s got and so do Tobin, Dave and that other guy (excuse me for not knowing his name). Again this is an emotional song and one can hear that just by listening to the way Jacoby sings. I don"t know why I like Scars better, it"s just a feeling.

10: Blanket of Fear 6/10
I just don"t like this song there"s not much to it. It"s not a bad song but I just don" think it"s attractive. Only the bridge is really good. This song is the one that every cd has" it"s the song that I never listen to, except for the times that I don"t feel like changing song.

11: Tyranny Of Normality 8.5/10
Fast song that catches on right as you hear it. Again the drumline is executed to perfection and the main riff is really cool. The bridge is the only negative thing I can find in this song, after intensive search that is. It doesn"t really separate itself from the rest, and it doesn"t bring anything special. An okay song.

12: DO Or Die 8/10
Frigging love this song. Sort of a happy song that really carries out it"s intended message. The dynamics in this song are an important bit of the vibe. Even the lyrics are good. The only annoying bit is the constant repeating of every riff and chorus. It"s a pitty.

Conclusion:
A cd that can grow out to be in my top 50 of favorite cd"s. Crapy lyrics ( :upset: ), genius drumlines, great riffs, energetic vocals and a bit of an old-skool vibe, which make for a booming album.

Ps: many people won"t agree with me, and some will. Please give your reaction and comments, about the content as well as the way it was reviewed. By the way, I am dutch so don"t comment on my spelling, vocabulary or grammar please. Hope you liked my review. :D

Did we say no more pre-emptive reviews a while ago, or did I just imagine it?

It's a shame, because it's a good review (except for the silver colouring, which I've edited).

Oh no, I know you've got dibs, not disputing it. I didn't mean taking dibs on albums not yet released, I meant actually reviewing them before they're released.

Ahh.

I didn't search for that, but I'm pretty sure I remember it being said.

Ages ago, someone did say that (this was in the first request a review thread or something). I really can't remember. Oh well.

Good Review Though yes the lyrics are extremely poor and in the other album Lovehatetradgedy Life is a bullet just basically repeated the same phrase throughout

So, do I close this? Reviewed before being released, and The Joz has dibs on it. Suppose we could ask Cedric to re-post this review in The Joz's thread, when the album gets released.

Sounds fair.

When you merge threads, the posts get inserted in chronological order, so it wouldn't be any different to him just posting his review in this thread.

fine with me... i just reviewed it because i saw it wasn't reviewed yet...
i don't care if you throw it away or something like that... and i don't usually read all the topics on this forum because it's just to big... so don't get mad if i reviewed it befor someone who said he wanted to be first...

Well since we did say no more reviews before the album's actually released, and The Joz had dibs, I'll close this thread so the album can be reviewed as it comes out. Cedric - save what you wrote as a review to a text file or something if you can, because it's still a good review, and just post it in the new thread.
