| Jethro42 Hi Sirlord, we're in a prog preliminaries. Check out my last list, if you will.
| Koris Glad to have another fan of Albums of Bikini Bottom on here :]
| Jethro42 I've edited my last comment for UK - Night After Night.
| Jethro42 Reminder to vote on Finals. Last day is tomorrow - Tuesday.
| Jethro42 Hello sir, this is another reminder, only one day left for voting M2. It's Saturday... Go, let's go!
| Jethro42 Hi Sir, just a reminder, last day for voting M1 is tomorrow at the latest.
| manosg Hey buddy! Just use the "For the Meds (Report Problems, Ask Questions, et al)" thread, and post any links to the user's profile, ratings, etc. The mods will take care of the matter.
| zakalwe You?ve gone through the essentials there mate but the full length version of Weekender by Flowered Up is a must despite the band being from London lol
| rabidfish check out stuff like chancha via circuito, very psychedelic kinda like nic jaar
| Titan Thanks bro! Sounds like it's right up my alley, will definitely check it out and will report back to you...
| manosg Oh yeah, definitely essential, dunno why I haven't rated it.
| manosg Wow, had no idea that cumbia has that reputation nowadays. The album that I jammed consists mostly of '70s stuff, which is probably one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much.
| manosg Hey bud, hope you're doing great. I know that you're from Chile, but I found this accidentally on youtube and loving it. You're probably familiar with it because it's from a neighboring country. It's like a blend of surf rock with folk elements and great brass instruments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhgnxSSc8gQ
| RunOfTheMill The whole show is on youtube: https://youtu.be/p5feipgwhAE it has Call for the Priest, Dissident Aggressor (!!), Here Come the Tears... stuff I thought they'd never played or didn't play until much much later...
| RunOfTheMill Raw Deal live: https://youtu.be/lT171t8G4w8 terrible quality, but that's bootlegs for you
| Divaman You're welcome. Yeah, I think there's a lot of excitement for this tournament. Spots have been going like hot cakes.
| Divaman Hi LordSirGentleman. The prog contest in officially open.https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=196325
| manosg Nice one, dude. I had seen that album so many times on my YT recommendations but never bothered to give it a shot. Initially, it reminded me of early-Judas Priest but it's more melodic. Thanks.
| CaliggyJack IKR!? I was constantly worried about how those discussions would devolve into. It was a nice and fun political discussion and I enjoyed them. I decided to wait on deleting until the topic became dead.
| normaloctagon https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=196013 more vibey 80s and 90s stuff, maybe you'll find something to vibe with too. cheers man
| manosg Absolutely. Loved Dio's voice on the song, but overall I found it just okay. How about you?
| manosg Hey dude, asked the mods about it, and it seems that your news item never appeared in the queue. Maybe you got timed out? It wasn't rejected though, so you might want to resubmit if it's not too much trouble.
| zakalwe Ha. Hello mate. I can?t find anything else to fit the parameters Sputnik has set so Opeth Opel it is on a temporary basis
| manosg Graham Bonnet is such a beast. But why does this one sound so much like Van Halen? haha
| Davil667 Will def check their live material as well, probably going with Live in Munich first as that?s where I come from, seems like a good starting point I guess.
| Davil667 Finally came around to check out Rainbow's debut and Long Live Rock 'n' Roll. Both are fantastic releases. Don't know if I would have checked them out anytime soon without your reimnder, so thx a lot :]
| Jethro42 Hello sir, I hope everything is okay for you in these crazy times. Health speaking, i have some muscular and arthritis issues that prevent me to play drums anymore. I played that instrument for so many years. So I want to compensate my loss by composing my songs with the help of a software. I'm into it now. As for Sput, I lost interest, because the site is too much metal, hardcore and indie. Most of the proggers have left the site, and I feel lost in here. But guys like you holds me back. Cheers
| manosg Hey JP, all is well man, how about you? Yeah, I'm familiar with the album and Janick's playing definitely brings Blackmore to mind. Good rec!
| OmairSh Yeah man I can totally empathise with ya, everything's virtual and I'm tired of it tbh. But it's the new norm. Sorry to hear about your parents, hoping they're able to stay healthy and safe. Time's are really crazy. Pretty much the same at my end. I used to go for improv and acting classes, and now they're organising them online, so that's some activity at least. Otherwise lots of music hah
| OmairSh Heyaaaa dude, long time no speak, how've you been? How's life been under quaranting?
| manosg Yeah, let's hope so man. Also, all the best for your parents. Haven't seen mine for like a month and a half because they're old too.
| manosg Thanks for that, dude. Really solid album. When I saw 1972 and Netherlands, I instantly thought of Focus. Great guitar and rhythm section, and an awesome sense of groove. Life in pandemic is wild man, especially with an 8 month old baby in the house. Tomorrow is the first day where we will be able to move more freely in Greece and I can't wait to go swimming again. How are things in Chile?
| parksungjoon at a glance, i'd expect 10, 11, 28 and 82 to be most up your alley :]
| parksungjoon might find something interesting here perhaps :] cheers https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=190800
| butt. shoot, eskimo isn't on spotify for some reason. wanna pick a song from death pierce me?
| butt. Gimme a song from Eskimo!
| Friday13th Yeah, Anima Latina counts as prog. Already planning the next winner, are we? ;]
| Friday13th Hey man, if you have time to vote in the elimination round that would be great, especially Mercury Tree v. Unreal City (tied right now)
| Bedex Digging Chico Buarque now man, thanks for the rec!
| SharkTooth You gotta check out their latest album then, it's ridiculously good
| Friday13th I'm going to work at a mid-sized law firm and do a lot of civil litigation like Family Law Employment Law etc. I do also like business/contract law and estate planning so we'll see if I get some of that in there. What are you interested in?
| Jethro42 Yeah i'm surprised nobody took that one, me the first. Man, take that chance, you risk to winning it out! It was my third choice, and my first two choices were a tossing coin, really. Not A Good Sign passed as a second one in the last minute...
| Jethro42 music is inflated with layers of sound in places*
| Jethro42 i'm not gonna lie, that Wobbler album was one of my nominee, but I thought it could be hard to get into for a non initiated. i revisited it today, and man what an album. it's a kinda good tribute to the vintage era. It's a bit dark but it's lightened by flutes and analog keyboards and mellotron. music is layered with layers of sound in places, but it alterns with smooth and melodic passages. it must be their most engaged album so far. I regret to not choosing that one, now.
| Jethro42 The last Wobbler is gorgeous too. Or Sky Architect - their debut or third one... Or maybe something from the 70s; Cathedral - Stained Glass Stories. Come on mate, be our 14th contestant, so we could go ahead...
| Jethro42 Ooops, for some reason, my sentence is not complete...i meant P.ush and Profits...I dig that album. Do you remember Fabio Zuffanti, La Quarta Vittima? You heard the first track and liked it a lot. Or check out Not A Good Sign, their first or last album. Try them and join us!
| Jethro42 Unfolded Like Suitcase is most likely well known in my opinion. But otherwise, i think you can be safe with them. I dig Push
| Jethro42 Hey man, I did read that you haven't found a nominee. I don't know if it's legit to rec you one. probably not...What do you think...?
| Friday13th lol you've got some time with a likely delayed start tomorrow but GET IT TOGETHER, old man! ;)
| Friday13th Hey man, are you going to hop on the prog tourney?
| manosg Hey dude, yeah it's not bad but can't say I prefer this one of the the debut version. Ritchie seems to have a weird fixation about the song though. It was the reason he left Purple, included it in the debut and re-recorded it lol.
| Jethro42 Birdstone's songwriting is close to perfection to me. It shows lots of variations into each songs. It's never totally stoner, never totally blues, and it's real honest and original music. I hope you've listened to the little introduction (''Seer'') that fits with ''Salazar''.
| Jethro42 I'm surprised you didn't like it that much. 3.5 is good though. Every tracks speak to me a lot, and my ears became too sensible when it comes to heavy stuff. This makes an exception. Did you listen to it more than once?
| Jethro42 Hey SirLord, try this, a bluesy hard rock with cool soft passages. You don't need to like blues to enjoy, but if you don't, you will. 5 it.https://birdstoneband.bandcamp.com/album/seer
| SharkTooth btw check Mythic Sunship - Another Shape of Psychedelic Music
| Davil667 Damn, just dipped into the first three tracks of Long Live Rock'n'Roll for some seconds and immediately stopped. This sounds amazing! I'm totally hooked and will instantly get a copy for sure.
| SharkTooth too busy to catch up with music, I've never really left the site, just haven't really commented in a while
| Davil667 Ah, thx a lot for the reminder buddy, was too busy indeed with checking out other stuff but it's definitely on my list. Rising is among the best and most rewarding records I've heard in quite a long time.
| AnimalsAsSummit yo. just thought id throw you another link. my band put out a new release not too long ago, its proggier territory than some of our more recent releases - https://millicentwaffles.bandcamp.com/album/the-rain-gods
| manosg Awesome! Will jam and let you know.
| manosg Cool, I can see that your approval rate got a little bump. And yeah jazz fusion is not my cup of tea per se but you know that I'm always up for some nice grooves dude :)
| manosg Hey dude, that sucks. But yeah sure, just report it to the Meds thread ("For the Meds") in the forums and they will have a look at it. Trying to jam some 2018 albums atm and once I'm finished I'll check Hancock's album asap. m/
| Jethro42 It's my pleasure, mate. First of, The album titles usually use a capital letter for every words, so in that logic, ''heptade'' would have a capital letter. However, an heptade is by definition seven levels of consciousness, so no reason to capitalize it. As for the ''L'', it's definitely a capital letter. So yes, in real life, it's ''L'heptade''.
| manosg Yup, it's a great album. Funny that you ask me now because a couple of weeks ago I was reading an old Billy Cobham interview where he stated that he perceived the album as a somewhat failed experiment, an album that was made for the money but was full of guitar noodling and nothing more than that.
| AnimalsAsSummit new album out if you get the time: https://kinggreenied.bandcamp.com/album/opio
| Jethro42 Omg!!! They are reborn from the ashes, that was unsxpected. I didn't know about their EP in 2016 either. Their new LP has the same old composer/arranger guy, the bassman apparently. I listened to the first few minutes, and it's already a 70's prog sounding. Thank you for showing me this!
| Jethro42 Hey SirLord, I can suggest you an entry; Fabio Zuffanti - La Quarta Vittima from which you've listened to the first song and dug it. Here's the full album. It's the first one on the list;https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=fabio zuffanti la quarta vittima
| Friday13th lol a loophole it would be! Haha I love that musical, but it's the furthest thing from obscure.
| Friday13th haha I'm sure you can figure something out!
| Friday13th Prog tourney this Monday, Memorial day!
| Hawks The Sizlack Demos are ****ing sick bro.
| AnimalsAsSummit got a new album out if youre interested - kinggreenied.bandcamp.com/album/alexander-desjardins
| Jethro42 Dude, try Quella Vecchia Locanda. They only released 2 albums which are bloody brillant. Often laid back, there are great interplays between violin/guitar and piano. Memorable melodies too. Don't miss them!
| Jethro42 Thanks for your kind words, but writing reviews requires a minimum of method and discipline, and I don't know if I still have it. Would I be able to go right to the point, and adding couple of informative sentences if needed ? ..Could I be convincing?...It's been a while since my last one, and I don't know if I could find some passion again. That being said, keep up the good work, buddy.
| Jethro42 Yeah, synthesizers are prominent on that album, mellotron included. There are also interesting sax parts, just as you like them. If ever you want to listen to the whole album, go to youtube and type Fabio Zuffanti - La Quarta Vittima. Album slays. I'd like to review it, but it's very demanding for me. Will see.
| Jethro42 If you don't mind Italian lyrics, try this album...or at least the first track. It's modern prog rock inspired by the 70's prog monsters. It's an easy listening with clever arrangements.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKOK_SxoguI
| Jethro42 I tried to like Ozrik's music couple years ago, and now that I listen to Jurrassic Shift, I remember why I failed to get interested. I don't dig their sort of spacey/electronic jams that tends to drag. They leave me on my appetite. I'm waiting for climaxes or something to happen, but they remain rather linear, and songs are falling flat. It's my experience with the band. I can get your Gong reference...partially at least.
| Titan im not familiar enough with Triumph's discog to rec to you.....and as far as Journey goes, I haven't been listening to them at all actually, just going through some albums that Iknow and rated them
| Titan indeed buddy, a perhaps i should jam them more often than i do
| manosg Not crazy about it but nice song nonetheless. Do you get some Santana vibes from the song or is it just me dude?
| manosg I'd say pretty essential if you're into the more experimental/psychedelic side of Scorps or even The Jimi Hendrix Experience. There are some pretty awesome moments in Earthquake, Uli is a legend.
| Jethro42 I only know couple of their hits ('Wall Street', 'I'm Not in Love', 'The Things We Do For Love'), but it's not enough to get an idea of the band. Will eventually try their early 70s stuff to see. Thanks dude.
| manosg Thanks for the heads up dude. I'd love to participate but I don't think I'll be able to keep up with the pace of the tourney at the moment due to work obligations. Thanks again though.
| e210013 Thanks SirLord. Jethro has told me that the same before. I'm going to think about it and certainly I'm going to participate. And you're right. Quarteto 1111 is a great choice, for sure. Anyway, thanks again.
| SharkTooth I've heard that labum countless times dude
| Frippertronics thak. might as well add you to the group on facebook. a bit lazy in terms of writing stuff for the site but I've started devoting a lot more time to archiving the band's stuff so it remains available
| Frippertronics with the vaguest of blessings from the higher ups, i am putting together a compilation and would like fans to vote, including u http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=596c713ae4b004432b10717b
| RunOfTheMill Dude check Toxik - Think This, I think you'd like it
| ArsMoriendi But you could very well get me to listen to Red :P Also damn your finals are late.
| ArsMoriendi Check my latest list and pitch me something.
| manosg Really curious and pumped too! To be honest though, something didn't feel right while watching the clips from their live shows. Ronnie is very talented but singing Dio's material is an impossible task. Think he's gonna be great though if Ritchie writes songs based on his voice.
| Titan Flying Colors - Second Nature.......jam that album a few times and tell me what you think.....i believe that you will enjoy it......Portnoy side project, but a good one
| kascetcadettt here's a thread where you can discuss how fantastic it is to be a part of this moment: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=174557 \\\ don't be scared to share the news with other guys in case i missed someone out and keep shining in the light of this beautiful rock n roll fireplate, god bless, hasanmedia represent
| kascetcadettt sieg hi it's-a me smooth brotha from the umpteenth block taggin' em trainz comin' from your favorite station, word on the street is (artuma is gay) my new album came out recently and if that's the last thing i ever do let it be, leavin' the link in your hands my man: http://poleyounger.bandcamp.com/album/go-daylight \\\ feel FREE to 1 it if u didn't like my agressive self promotion campaign, feel FREE to thank me if this album saved your life
| SharkTooth plus if you managed to check out Bring Me The Horizon(something I never expected you to listen to), then there's no reason for you not to check that album out
| SharkTooth While Darkthrone is usually a black metal band, The Underground Resistance isn't black metal in the slightest. It's more along the lines of speed metal/classic heavy metal
| SharkTooth also you should check out Darkthrone's The Underground Resistance. It's basically a modern homage to classic heavy metal and it's amazing
| Titan bro, i hope i didn't insult you in any way.......just kidding with you for the record
| SharkTooth unfortunately I'm sill alive, will check those out tho
| Frippertronics lmao don't worry bout it, though i went through a ton of stuff last month so it mostly went under the radar
| Frippertronics i mean if you kept track of my stuff, you'd see i tend to have patterns in what i write about
| Titan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LPD7QjawA
| Titan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAHKCRY7fj8
| Jethro42 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, man!
| manosg Album's pretty awesome dude. Thanks for the heads up.
| Sabrutin Have some mad Simon Phillips, jump at 3 minutes if you get bored https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6l9tVYI3Nc
| Friday13th pretty cool song! Finally get a chance to jam now that I finished the semester.
| manosg Thanks man, this is very interesting. I see that you enjoyed it a lot which makes me even more curious to jam it.
| Sabrutin Please do if you find the time, it's one of my favorite albums and one that reveals more with each listen. Whilst I'm trying to organize a discog review, let me throw you a curveball https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkBrTr_0T-g
| Sabrutin Hey man, I see you dig both Toto and Toto IV. Have you ever checked anything else by the band?
| Titan will do....holding you to it!
| Titan im not familiar with their work
| Friday13th liking it so far, yeah that and Leonardo are just mmmmmm good
| Friday13th haha well I presume the PFM is still good, or is that also a false rec? ;)
| TheSpaceMan okay ill try to get to it, but i'll be honest im not really in the market for more prog
| SharkTooth They basically combine folk music styles from all over the world with psychedelic rock. Most people refer to them as "world music" and their first 2 albums are amazing
| KILL yea its gd thanks
| Snide Thanks fam, can't wait to hear what you think of it!
| Snide Hey man, my new album is out! Would you mind checking it out? - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=169520
| Friday13th oh lol! I mean I was just guessing from the movement titles and the lyrics I heard. I must be wrong! haha
| Friday13th I also wonder if Genesis heard the t/t as it has the same apocalyptic theme.
| Friday13th Dude, that Earth and Fire is great! Nice find.
| Friday13th Cool, I'll make sure to listen to it tomorrow. The proggiest Jefferson Airplane song I've heard is "Rejoyce" which is a Grace Slick composition. Incredible stuff!
| Friday13th ...and Fire! lol idk why my message got cut off. Yeah man, it sounds sweet.
| Friday13th A: The same as taking the "wind" out of Earth, Wind
| e210013 Yesterday, I finished my saga about the prog path of José Cid. Yesterday, I put my last review about him, his EP "Vida (Sons Do Quotidiano)". As I know that you liked his other works and this is another great piece, almost unknown, I thought that you might be interested on it. Cheers and tel me something before.
| danielcardoso hey dude, i checked that album you sent me and yea don't really dig it. sorry if i disappointed :[
| Titan script and clutching at straws are all you need
| Titan holy smokes bro are you new to marillion?
| e210013 I checked already your list and I wrote something on it. Probably you didn't had time to see it. Nice work, man.
| e210013 Thanks, man. I hope have time to take a look on it, still this week.
| e210013 Sorry, but I was in vacation till now. I listen to the track very carefully and this is really a great song, perhaps one of their best with fantastic lyrics of Pablo Neruda, I think. As I can see, this track belongs probably to their best album, "Alturas De Machu Pichu", according with the majority of the members of Progarchives. Thanks for your help, buddy. By the way, I put the third part of the trilogy of José Cid, right now. Cheers.
| Tadlfm Imma have to put the handcuffs on you momma
| Titan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3I7CLy70WtI
| Friday13th Ouch! haha, I'm optimistic as a spring chicken right now, but maybe I'll be equally jaded in a few years. My law school doesn't seem to have an overly competitive environment, but who knows what it will be like as finals approach.
| JamieTwort I don't consider much of W.A.S.P's material to be glam tbh, even in their earlier days they were a lot heavier and rawer than most of the glam scene. If I was to consider them glam though, I'd say they're probably my favourite band out of the whole scene.
| Friday13th dang, it's 3 years here. I'm sure the experience is worth it though.
| Friday13th Yeah, I'll have to be satisfied with hanging out with other law students all day. What year are you in?
| Friday13th Nice list man, I'll check some of those epics when I get the chance. I started law school today. Ay caramba! Hay demasiada tarea.
| smaugman only if u give me your fav pornstar name
| danielcardoso okay dude i'm gonna give it a listen some time this week but i make no promises lol, glam is usually always a big no for me.
| manosg Thanks dude. Will check when I have the time.
| Jethro42 Agreed, it's not everyday that we receive some praise from those lists. It sometimes happened to me as well in my early years on sput, a time where I was more ''active'', more visible and more optimistic on here. As an example, I appeared into The Analyzer's series; http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=452742
| Jethro42 Hey man, you're listed as one of the best users of the site here :)http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=168882
| Tadlfm ey u wot m9 *bish bash bosh*
| BADBOY thanks i will have to check those out!
| BADBOY i see you also like rush, whats a good rush album for the beginner like me?
| Jethro42 Yes Eskaton is pretty much innovative and melodic. Lots of instrumental/vocal hooks in there. Way more accessible than Magma too. And take note that it's all sung in French (I think so, I'll check it out more deeply). Glad you liked it, sir.
| ArsMoriendi Hmmm is their first album any good? I'm considering checking it.
| ArsMoriendi It was interesting. Sounds like Can if Can can less experimental. The second half was better than the first half in my opinion.
| Jethro42 Jeff Wayne let me pretty much indifferent. The drum machine everywhere, the repetitiveness and the spoken words don't help. Thanks anyway.
| Jethro42 Well, try Roller, and if you don't dig it, I can't help you. Try the other records but be aware, you can fall into an horror movie soundtrack. The second half of Suspiria is interesting, finally. They seem to stick with symphonic prog. If you get more patient than me and find some treasures by them, just let me know.
| Jethro42 **** Suspiria, it's a bunch of random noises. It shows that it's one of their soundtracks. Don't waste your time with them if you want my opinion. Roller contains some good tracks imo. I don't know about the rest, and i'm not hurry to discover them.
| Jethro42 Goblin are not my cup of tea. They're famous for puting out horror movie soundtracks. Album Roller is a rare exception to that. Band is centered around the keyboardist. It's spacey at places, and they sometimes flirt with funk, so take a look at Roller. Suspiria is, according to the band itself, their best work.
| Jethro42 I've edited my comment in the APP's thread ;)
| Jethro42 You're so right, I didn't pay attention. Better chance the next time haha
| Jethro42 In case that list would interest you. It's about music of Brazilhttp://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=168446
| Frippertronics I wouldn't know. My general suggestion is to go in chronological order to see how they progressed from a no wave group to something of a post-rock group. However, I think it'd be best if you checked out either Children of God or My Father.
| Snide Hey dude it's Snide, would you be down to jam my debut? - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=167917
| Jethro42 Thanks for that link. Song is delighful. The style reminds me of Phideaux, especially in the vocal melodies. Well, instrumentally too, but here it's more busy. I'm adding the album into my ''to listen to'' list.
