| DoofDoof Just reviewed, you might dig - album is all over the place but I think in the most compelling way!
| DoofDoof Great 'Soul Mining' rating - 'Infected' is my favourite aum of all time so try and get to that one eventually. Each song has a video on that album too, they create another vibe to it.
| Shamus248 I think tweeting that he's an abuser then admitting she's lurking in posts about it is pretty damning
| Shamus248 I mean, the tweets linked at the top of the reddit post are either from 2018 when they were still dating (setting a timeline) or 2020-21 when she says "watching my abuser get famous". Again, she comments in that same reddit post essentially confirming what's being speculated on.
| Shamus248 There's also this lol https://twitter.com/brittanibelle/status/1607121951998214146?s=46
| Shamus248 Zach Bryan's ex commented on this reddit post confirming he physically abused her https://www.reddit.com/r/CelebWivesofNashville/comments/140niup/zach_bryan_a_serial_cheater_and_abuser/
| ArsMoriendi Check Lavender Country by Lavender Country. It?s gay protest country music from 1974 and in my opinion a 5/5
| Sowing I actually sent that a few hours before the album dropped as a way for you to hear most of the songs, but the video is cool af too.
| Sowing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQ5kdR_N3Vo
| bloc Apparently she put out a new single this year already, but I wasn't feeling it
| bloc Yep first two tracks are my favourite
| bloc DAAAAAAAMN this s*** is smooth as hell
| bloc Sweet bro, I will take it for a spin tomorrow
| bloc Glad you liked it brother, it's probably in my top 3-5 albums this year so far
| bloc Check the new one from Ibibio Sound Machine, loving it
| fogza Thanks again for the recs flag, I'm gonna run through some of these and see what feels right for a recs list with the review
| fogza Yeah, I need to jam that again before I submit the review, I think M.I.A. is a good comparison whereas I seem to remember Santigold had a slightly more conventional sound, that even went in a slightly pop rock thing at times
| fogza Aaah true, I was thinking Grimes but FKA Twigs is also a great comparison. I actually jammed Gwen today also thinking there's a connection in the vocal, but then it didn't 100% match up from a vibe perspective like I thought. Thanks for the help!
| fogza Hey flag, what would you recommend as similar listens as the new kilo? and if i reviewed it would you mind me using those suggestions?
| fogza Definitely, I'm not even very into some of the genres she weaves in but she found a way to win me over, it's an exceptional pop album
| Feather Lincoln is probably my favorite. I lived right next to it my last couple leases. Aragon Ballroom is cool and if you every see a band you like playing at Schuba's, Beat Kitchen, Empty Bottle, those holes in the wall are a great experience.
| Feather I lived in lakeview my first couple years in chicago and slowly migrated south. Probably getting back to around lincoln park area next lease. Soooooo many great venues across chicago though
| dedex oh it's French hahaha, but yeah ify
| dedex heyo maybe you'll dig Angele, she's *the* Belgian pop artist atm and she'll release a new album next week - xoxo enjoy your day m/
| ArsMoriendi Check Toon Time Raw! by Jerry Paper, since you liked Private Reasons.
| ArsMoriendi You might love this: https://open.spotify.com/album/1HWQY3F2hwCrjIiWprIIIN?si=VaS2C_WlS7OY_3-72vCl-g
| Ryus hes literally married to a woman smh
| Ryus The katie dey reply - you know I spend every day living with a woman who is my soul mate and one and only right? people so weird on this site
| Pheromone yo meet me behind asda car park bring a friend
| JohnnyoftheWell yo listen to this new Aimyon record, it is the pop you need in your life rn ! so pure, so catchy !
| DoofDoof I guess this is my fault as on AOTY I put up reviews/soundoffs for everything, so as I put up more positive reviews/soundoffs for good than bad albums I also end up putting up more positive than negative stuff about female artists there. I just think this site is...it has a negativity spin actually. AOTY is much friendlier.
| DoofDoof I had a year of guitarded chuck saying I was a racist because I said Frank Ocean was boring and gave a low mark to another black artist - every thread, same thing. Was dumb. Live a little - say Cyndi Lauper whines like a dying animal, whatever, its not sexist In and of itself
| DoofDoof I definitely put up more negative soundoffs for male artists but I guess you could say there are more male artists. I just get the feeling if I said listening to a female artist was as boring as sitting by a dovecote all day, as I did with Bon Iver on the last album, you would says its sexist :/
| DoofDoof I think Im saying youve got pretty habitual with that joke - its like an auto response. I literally put the same stuff on AOTY and no one says its sexist, I would have made the exact same comment if that was an ed sheeran album. Its...pfffft
| DoofDoof pffft yourself, joking that someone is sexist is pretty low fella, whatever - maybe you dont see it that way
| DoofDoof The katie dey reply - you know I spend every day living with a woman who is my soul mate and one and only right? people so weird on this site
| JohnnyoftheWell Okay phew, the universe is in balance lol. Now plz send me an AOTD ballot of albums that are not metal albums, having a hard time data processing over here...
| JohnnyoftheWell Hehe I did! Does the pic at the top left of my profile still show as Lain btw? hasn'td in my browser...
| JohnnyoftheWell Haha nooo Rina is too much of a queen, I'm not gonna meme her - but s*** yesssss just wait til you hit Love Me 4 Me and the grooves start coming
| JohnnyoftheWell also should i change my profile pic to the 3776 - saijiki art i am done with this one and think that image is hilarious but hmm what's the mood?
| klap if i could i would! slammed at work with the virus stuff going on. someone should tackle it though, would love to see them get more exposure
| klap Ritual in repeat is still their high water mark for me but this is a definite step up from their last one. Last Night is one of their best
| klap didn't know u were a tennis fan, new one is solid
| Feather Thanks! Ill check them all out ... probably just gunna stick with a single day though. I am already doing Bonnaroo, Coachella (not a fan but gf insists) and Riot Fest
| Feather Who are you excited for at pitchfork. I just bought a sunday ticket for National, Pheobe and Big Thief lol
| Trifolium Dude I know! This place has some seriously questionable taste sometimes. Can't wait for summer, listening to this in a lazy hot weekend, doors and windows open. Sounds perfect.
| Trifolium Yeah love the sugariness too. It reminds me of Madonna every now and then, that's a good thing in my book. But it's quite quirky too which is really cool and a nice combo. Are their other records similar to this?
| JohnnyoftheWell Yeah, Need Your Love I think would have rubbed me the wrong way if it weren't for those shifts; they really bring it to life! Matrimony II is an ace closer, v much looking forward to going back to that
| JohnnyoftheWell This Tennis album is weird - treads so close to the line of what I'd consider forgettable dream pop but then grabs me every time I'm about to give up on it lol. Gonna have to give it more attention, defs a good find
| Trifolium Dude you were right on the Tennis rec. It rules. Lovely vibes, super fun with all the tempo changes and what not, plus love the production. Thanks!
| alamo hope you're right on your dua lipa soundoff. these singles are so good
| parksungjoon thank you for the soundoff that theres a new aal, im already hard as a diamond
| DoofDoof I really liked the album closer
| DoofDoof everyone needs a few (or more than a few) questionable ratings ;)
| DoofDoof pleased youre back even though I clearly irritate the tits off you
| DoofDoof party city? is this an american thing?
| NorthernSkylark have you been gone from the site or is it just me?Also, you should prob check Angelo De Augustine's Tomb ( strong sufjan vibes).
| DoofDoof Yeah, I retired the DoofusWainwright account - needed a new(ish) start. I was getting dog's abuse towards the end of my time as a Contributor. Sometimes my sense of humour doesn't translate
| DoofDoof Best thing about the Julia Holter album is it enticed you back to Sput
| theBoneyKing Kesha, huh? Well it's been a while since I tried a mainstream pop album, I guess I could give it a go.
| theBoneyKing For me it's probably the most consistent album song for song that I've ever heard, and there is quite a bit of variety across the country, folk, rock, and blues influences with different paces and feelings to them, plus the musicianship and vocals are beyond superb... But it's in my top 3 albums ever so obviously I don't see any flaws in it. Probably it's just not for you (3.5 is still a decent score though of course).
| theBoneyKing Kind of a strange criticism, but to each his own.
| NorthernSkylark Hi there ash. Listen to Aldous Harding's Party, i think you'll enjoy it !
| theBoneyKing Only a 3.5 for Car Wheels On a Gravel Road!! :'(
| ArsMoriendi I liked the strings, but everything else wasn't my thing. 3/5
| ArsMoriendi The Sensual World is really good, also I'm listening to your rec today
| ArsMoriendi Go to my most recent pitch and pitch me something indie pop, but experimental. :P
| Tunaboy45 There's a monologue but it's not in the opening- it's actually really cleverly done and you just have to see it ;)
| Tunaboy45 21 years later "choose life, choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares"
| literallyzach I'm interested in what you have to say about the Shamir album lmao
| Frippertronics okay hopefully this saturday i'll just drop the frapp and be done with it. kiiiinda too late to get it featured but tbqh frapp has always been underhyped on sput so it's better to just review it for the sake of it
| Frippertronics rym is for bitches, I disregard them because they have waaaay more contrarians and try hard 13 year olds than sput
| Frippertronics site is too ****ing slow so the frapp review's gonna have to wait (plus I wanna go over it again)
| DoofusWainwright I've only given it two listens but I liked it enough for a 4 rating so far, and yeah, very different to their other work. Some of the later songs I was wondering if I'd accidentally switched to listening to another band.
| Sowing It's the first album I ever heard from them. There was a lot of cool stuff going on.
| Sowing It was between good and great for me?
| Frippertronics ehh i just generally don't care for those type of post-punk revival bands. It's a case of where they got some nice songs but I can't really stomach a whole album of it.
| theBoneyKing I'll be more than happy if it ends up being a 3.5 for me! Haven't gotten a chance to spin it yet.
| theBoneyKing That's true, I'm posting 750-1000 comments per month recently.
| theBoneyKing Nice dig ;-DWow I've almost caught up to your comments, I remember back when I had like 100 and you had 5,00 lol
| DoofusWainwright I like a few songs on it but I don't personally like how he controls his voice on that album, he's become a way improved singer since imo
| talktothehead Wow. I'm a bit disappointed xD Change ur opinion right now!
| talktothehead What radiohead album is your favorite ? I'm guessing for you - Ok Computer or Amnesiac
| Snake. it's pretty good so far but prob because i didn't like season 4 that much
| NorthernSkylark Heard it once. It's pretty good just a little too dancy for my mood today :)
| Snake. just reached season 5, agreed best fkin show
| Snake. was the bunny suit girl in your previous avatar emma caulfield?
| DoofusWainwright Think you might really enjoy the new Mark Eitzel (I 5/5 reviewed it), great singer/songwriter stuff.
| theBoneyKing I've heard of them before, in fact I think Doof might have recommended that album to me at some point. Thanks for the shout, might give it a spin.
| NorthernSkylark Hello ash. Did you not listen to Cohen's last album, and if not why the hell not? Get going (:
| DoofusWainwright Yeah, the last two songs are real growers in particular. If you like his sad songs steer clear of his previous album, it's all quirky synth pop :/ Not what you expect
| DoofusWainwright Not quite up to the same quality but if you feel like some indie folk I think you could do a lot worse
| NorthernSkylark Glad you like it! Don't think I've heard anything by them yet, any great starting point?
| NorthernSkylark You should really check out Jens lekman if you haven't already
| theBoneyKing Ah, makes sense, that's the one I thought would be pushing it the most.
| theBoneyKing Which song was the more country one? And the singer is Fiona Apple on the Blake Mills song.
| theBoneyKing I'm actually thinking I might, if I find the motivation, post a list with a mini review and rating for each song on your playlist, then I'll pick my top three songs and listen to their respective albums. No pressure to do the same for mine though, as I said I may not even do all that myself.
| theBoneyKing I forgot to mention, there's one song in my playlist with a vocalist you should recognize - let's see if you can identify who it is! I've listened to your playlist a couple times already - great stuff! I'll send you some more detailed impressions after a few more listens. :-]
| theBoneyKing Looks like a nice selection! I look forward to listening!
| theBoneyKing Turns out my previous estimate was far too safe... Here ya go: https://open.spotify.com/user/nxsardella/playlist/4TDWhkUADPzVDBiDDDAqCM I put some thought into the order but you're welcome to shuffle it if you wish. It's not exactly the most uplifting set of songs ever but what else would you expect from me! ;D
| theBoneyKing Nice. I'll see how much time I have and how long this takes but I bet I can get it to you by the end of the day tomorrow, if not then certainly by the end of the weekend. :-]
| theBoneyKing Sweet, let's do it for sure! I'll start digging through your/my ratings to see what I can find. Fair warning, there'll probably be a fair bit of Americana/alt-country stuff just by virtue of what I rate vs. what you rate, but I know you like Dolly Parton so I'll use her as a reference point. ;-]
| theBoneyKing Oooo, I like that idea! Sort of a one song per album/artist kind of deal?
| theBoneyKing It's a solid album but the whole thing just feels a bit flat to me. And yeah I do use Spotify. Why do you ask?
| Polyethylene sick FLips brah. I haven't listened to Yoshimi all the way through, but Soft Bulletin is a hard 4 to a light 4.5 for me. Really great stuff
| Polyethylene Cool stuff, I'll have to get around to checking those. I've been making my way through the discogs of Deftones and The Flaming Lips, just checking out 'Soviet Kitsch' by Regina Spektor too. All real good stuff. I have a check/rec list going atm if you wanna get in on that :]
| Polyethylene Hey buddy, been jamming anything good recently?
| theBoneyKing Yeah idk, that album just really didn't do anything for me. I found it too intentionally obtuse without actually coming across as emotional or terribly interesting.
| theBoneyKing Ironic that you mention Julia Holter, because I have the same issue with her as you do with Angel Olsen (though I've only heard Have You In My Wilderness). On paper I should adore her but I really don't dig her voice.
| theBoneyKing What about two 7 minutes songs do you define as "generic ballads"? Man we usually agree on most things but this one I'm just not getting. I mean the first half is growing in me but I still find the second more impressive. At least we agree on the overall rating!
| theBoneyKing To my ears the first half (aside from Intern) is just pretty generic, if solid, indie rock, and the second half is stunning and just much more mature.
| theBoneyKing My Woman's second half is better and you know it.
| theBoneyKing I've been pretty good, working and enjoying my last summer before I move in for college. As you can probably tell from my recent ratings, I've been getting into Animal Collective, Dead Can Dance, and My Bloody Valentine, all great stuff. Haven't been jamming a ton of 2016 stuff but I remember seeing some really high praise from the Mitski album, I may still check it out.
| theBoneyKing 'Sup Flag, how's life? Haven't seen you around much recently. What've you been digging of late?
| theBoneyKing Is the new Ariana Grande actually this year's E MO TION? Because if so count me in!
| Spacesh1p I disagree with you, sure, but that's fine. At least you didn't pull an Anthracks and soil yourself while blaming someone else for not cleaning you up.
| Spacesh1p You are one of the only people pro-HOPELESSNESS in that thread that can come away with any real dignity. Some of the other excuses for arguments...ugh.
| barcafan21 neither of them did anything for me tbh, they weren't bad but they weren't enjoyable either really, so i left them as average
| barcafan21 i guess i don't like everything that sputnik loves lol
| Tunaboy45 Awestruck but the album is sublime.
| luci yes, it's the most politically contrived bs I've heard in a while. see tay's writeup here but extrapolated to the full album: http://www.factmag.com/2016/03/14/singles-club-anohni-zayn/2/
| theBoneyKing I know their Sun Giant EP is supposed to be amazing as well so I'll have to throw that in the mix as well.
| theBoneyKing Yeah I figure that I've got Helplessness Blues on my mind at the moment I may as well check out their debut. I'll try to get to it this week.
| Frippertronics is sach really implying those two aren't experimental? hilarious
| DoofusWainwright Thought you knew I was a terrible person. I found it a real struggle to get through that album
| theBoneyKing Sweet. Do you know any other albums by either of them?
| barcafan21 i could listen up to girl on the wing, but usually not after that
| barcafan21 for all the reasons you said too. oh, inverted world isnt cohesive enough and i don't particularly care for the last 3 tracks. also yah nice death cab rating, lovely album
| plane It is a spectacular feat of thematic production engineering. Sounds like picking up alien pop music on an AM radio. Serious/funny progressive rock with a melancholy core. People often praise AnCo for their singular vision, how past albums seemed to be pared down to the essential elements. The songwriting here seems battered and belabored, and accounts for four varied influences at once rather than a safe distillation. It is difficult but uniquely rewarding in a vast discography. Sigh. I love it
| plane Have you heard Centipede Hz yet? It is top tier AnCo
| barcafan21 it's close, but new slang is better than anything on chutes too narrow so i give the edge to oh, inverted world. i need to relisten to the two albums though, then i'll get back to you
| TwigTW Since you like Dolly Parton's vocals, you'd probably like her singing three part harmony with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris on the Trio album. Worth checking out, if you haven't already.
| theBoneyKing Also have you ever checked The Decemberists? Because I think you'd love them.
| theBoneyKing Thought I'd let you know I checked Chutes Too Narrow and I loved it. I have no idea why I never spun it before, but I agree, it's easily The Shins' best.
| wtferrothorn I was just lurking through Amazon and found this video. So glad I did. And going to an Age Of Adz show would be a dream come true; it's my favorite Sufjan album
| NorthernSkylark it was great man, had a lovely time with my parents and cousins this year. and got kate bush and galaxie 500 cd's, so i'm happy. you should check my best of 15 list, most of it's right down your alley i'd bet.
| wtferrothorn I have a feeling you might appreciate this videohttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TNSY4U2/ref=sr_acs_va_item_0?ie=UTF8
| NorthernSkylark ugh, everybody is raving about her, so i guess i really should. today is all about nick drake tho, so tomorrow!
| user for someone who loves rating things 4, your 4s arent all that disproportional.
| TalonsOfFire Yeah just the ones everyone knows, and I tried Modern Vampires once or twice but couldn't get into it, maybe I just need the right songs to hear first or something that aren't as popular idk
| theBoneyKing I need to give The Idler Wheel another listen, I haven't jammed it in over a year probably.
| theBoneyKing I have to check Tidal and Extraordinary Machine. I know a few songs from them but haven't heard them in their entireties. I love When the Pawn and The Idler Wheel. "On the Bound" is probably my favorite song of hers.
| theBoneyKing I definitely love me some Fiona Apple. Nice to see you back on here, man.
| Arcade check The Beautiful South - Welcome to the Beautiful South, i reckon you'd really dig it (think Father John Misty, Belle and Sebastian, The Smiths)
