| wtferrothorn It may be my AOTY,definitely top 3. It's just so crazy and abrasive, yet so catchy. I honestly never heard anything like it before
| wtferrothorn Glad your enjoying the new Clarence Clarity record. It's soooo good
| controlled " Even though La Gárgola rarely reaches the dizzy heights of that album, it still ranks as one of the group's most commanding endeavors to date" what does this mean
| Sowing Who are the admins for some reason I can't see them on mobile
| Sowing For the sputnik Facebook page, in case that wasn't obvious
| Sowing Hey can you re-add my sowing season Facebook account to the list of admins? I took myself off of it a year ago. Please and thank you!
| RadicalEd Have you heard of mondo drag? More specifically have you heard their new album? It's really awesome stoner/heavy psych. I think you would like it, so check it out if you have the time.http://www.mondodrag.com/media
| AtThePinery how do I get the ability to rate things 3.8 or 2.3? That is, not by a .5 scale.
| RadicalEd hey greg. Are you going to review the new Sleater-Kinney?
| menawati heard any of the new Beardfish ? heard Hold On, not sure about it, feels like they gone backwards.
| Mad. Supervoid are awesome man
| xenocide. Hej, widz?, ?e oceni?e? The Prodigy! Lepiej pó?no ni? wcale:).
| tempest-- you should dig it https://horsehunter.bandcamp.com/
| Metalstyles Awesome, will do, thanks! I'll grab that Lo-Pan album as well.
| Metalstyles I actually have Man's Gin's Hymns album, and while I like it a lot, it's not quite what I'm going for atm. I'm looking for good mellow rock tunes, I'd say (man's gin is more acoustic in my books). Like Alice in Chains' "Voices", Soundgarden's "Rowing" and so on.
| Metalstyles Hey man, since you know that kind of music like really well, do you know any good bands that sound like Alice In Chains/Soundgarden at their more mellow, laid back moments? Hoping to nail an obscure rec or two from you because I've been looking for similar good stuff for quite a while. Any suggestions are appreciated!
| Mad. Ah that's a shame. Maybe other reviewers are hyping it up too much, I've seen some 10/10 reviews
| Mad. Yo man have you heard the new Orange Goblin? I've seen a load of really good reviews
| MrElmo Neverrrrr! (and cheers for the advice)
| MrElmo hey sup dude? my new main account TheBarber got banned again do you have any idea where or how could I get the reason of ban and know for how long it'll last? thanks a lot in advance
| Wizard So far.........I'm loving it. Reminds me of more math-rock type of Tool.
| theacademy https://twitter.com/kimbramusic/status/500881411704770560
| Wizard I see you rated Downer's s/t album a 5/5. I bought it the other day for $4.50 Canadian brand new solely on the fact I remember it surfacing back in my nu-metal days and was on Roadrunner Records. I will report back to you when I've given it a proper listen.
| Mad. That's reassuring, the single didn't seem too promising to me. I really hope they go more prog with the next one though, Echo Street had some astounding moments. I guess this is a step back because most of it was conceived before ES
| Mad. GREG! Thoughts on the new Amplifier?
| Dunpeal sup duder, I recall you like doom. perhaps a review for these guys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Up2Xu3NolEQ
| Inveigh Nice man, I can't wait to jam it. Haven't listened to either of the leaked tracks because I want to hear it in its entirety
| Inveigh how is that new YOB album dude? i assume you received advance copy
| fromtheinside "Their 2004 album This Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In) remains a staple release for the genre due to its superbly maneuvered juxtaposition of heaviness and melody. Even though La Gárgola rarely reaches the dizzy heights of that album" what does this mean and why did u say it..... lol
| ExplosiveOranges Not to be rude, but why is your forum profile just "Greg." while your profile on the review site is "greg84"?
| Mendross Greg , you should check out Yowie . judging by your tastes I'd think you'd like them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65TPURu_Bn8 ...Kinda like a prota -Hella. Tell me what you think. I'm curious to your opinion .
| menawati haha - well I'm a very uncool person Greg
| Andersonville73 Excuse me sir, but can you please my prior bands' pages. We didn't actually get to release anything, because we disbanded before recording. Can you please the "Twilight at Fernald" and "Andersonville" page. It would be greatly appreciated. :)
| fromtheinside ohhh you. also you never answered my q about whether you thought tune yards or st. v was better for this year.... thoughts?
| fromtheinside goddamn i love you. i keep thinking back to those report cards i once wrote and saying to myself i hope greg knowns i wrote that out of PURE LOVE. goddamn do i love you
| Metalstyles Backyard Babies is another band, if you've heard of them, who I lump together with Danko Jones. That kind of music, slightly punk-influenced, bare bones rock and roll with an attitude.
| Metalstyles Greg, I desperately need your help. I'm looking for more bands like our beloved Danko Jones, have you got any recs? Bands that have the same playing and songwriting style, concentration on classic rock n roll riffs, the same kind of attitude as Danko etc.
| menawati cant really i'm trying to get some work finished for tomorrow, should be ok at weekend though if you are up for it sometime then
| danielito19 you should change your name to greg4.5 lol original jokester here
| OmairSh Really good quality http://www.polskieradio.pl/9/200/Artykul/1090228,Riverside-i-nowe-pokolenie-muzyczne-Zobacz-wideo
| JJwins Hey what's up man. I have an issue I need handled. I did a review and created an artist page for an artist called "taste tester" on here a few years ago. He contacted me and wanted to erase the review and the artist page as he's trying to his google search results and doesn't want old material to pop up. Anyway you can erase that review and artist page for me, along with this account that I don't use anymore? Thank you for your help.
| SharkTooth There's an overlooked psych contest for albums rec'd by usershttp://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=732569
| Mad. No problem man! I rec'd you Santeria (mellow southern/blues rock) a while back but I don't think there was a full album up anywhere. Here's Year of the Knife which is a 5 for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhn1Q1A8eCc
| Mad. Haha saw my soundoff for the Main Squeeze?
| Voivod Yeah, will check it asap :-)
| Voivod No, it's no problem at all :-D, be my guest. The Mekong Delta review wore me off completely and it will take at least two weeks for me to write something for the new Triptykon album. Besides, I wrote in the dibs thread that I would take the new Triptykon album, if nobody else wanted it.
| menawati i like the music it's just that scream he does makes me feel ill
| menawati haha not often i have a totally binary opinion to you about music (trophy scars)
| Wizard Does the new Lord Mantis rip or what?
| Voivod I've been jamming the debut Triptykon album as of late, pretty solid stuff but quite a few steps below than any Celtic Frost album, flops like Cold Lake excluded.
| Voivod I'm on the new Mekong Delta album right now, I dibbed the Triptykon album at the forum, but I plan to pick it up as soon as a finish with my current assignment. That is, if no one else picks it before I do ;-)
| fromtheinside i only ask cause yours will take precedent so i will stop kind of writing. also, mention their weird love affair for mexico for me will ya?
| TheBarber oh really it's not a problem (although I'd be curious as to why I was banned in the first place), but thanks a lot for the concern man! also have you found any other noisy sludge band I should check out?
| Mad. Hmm, not sure I could say enough about it. Maybe Hoppoman will
| Mad. Oh right, damn. Is it streaming anywhere?
| Mad. Yo greg, any chance you might review the new Bigelf? It looks pretty awesome
| Voivod Good for you Greg! The bandcamp links are referring to an EP?
| Voivod The female singer is really good.
| Voivod Interesting stuff indeed Greg, thanks for the rec!
| chemicalmarriage I know you're a busy guy, but if you get the chance I think you'd do an awesome review for Encrust-From Birth to Soil. I'd try but I definitely don't have the skill
| Insurrection thanks man haha wasnt expecting that at all. gotta thank you too cause your writing definitely has had an influence on me :]
| Frippertronics hey, would you be able to check my writing on the proofreeding thread. atm it's just a blurb but i'm still fleshing it out
| menawati Yes i went out drinking tonight thinking ' that wasnt a good idea really' but the sad thing is most of it was true. Thanks for the feature I'll continue doing lists of music that 0.1% of the community care about.
| menawati yes got it, damn they took down my sexist list, can understand why tho haha
| menawati yeh easy to find just look for Martin Legg there aint many people with that name, it's a dozy looking bloke in a white shirt with sunglasses on his head
| AtomicWaste Thanks man! Excited to be a part of the team :)
| BigHans Ive been meaning to jam that, bet it rules
| Necrotica Thanks so much, man! It feels great to be finally writing alongside you guys :]
| linguist2011 Thanks for all your support over the years Greg :)
| menawati oh thanks mate, didnt really expect it though really as I didn't do hardly anything on here last year
| Mad. Well, as long as it's still got those awesome keys and doesn't sound like a Clutch clone, I'm a happy man!Did you ever check Humanfly? Definitely worth it
| Mad. Less reggae? Damn, that was my favourite part about Lionize. Anyway, I'm lookin forward to it all the same. I might end up 4.5'ing Superczar, recently ordered the CD. Space Pope is also an excellent album.
| Mad. Yo Greg, how's the new Lionize then? I see you've upped your rating
| SadAndHolyGlow That's cool. I would definitely disagree with you "The New Normal" being accessible. It seems more like an experiment in edgy song structures, much like Tool. "Sharing Space" has lots of songs that could easily be played on any radio station.
| SadAndHolyGlow So, I believe that "Sharing Space" FAR surpasses "The New Normal" (the latter sucked in my opinion). Great progressive that has a nice alternative edge to it.
| SadAndHolyGlow Phew! A 5 for Cog's "Sharing Space"? I'm listening to them now, although everyone says I should listen to "The New Normal" first. Oh well. I'll let you know what I think!
| Mad. hey Greg, you'd dig this album so hard: http://humanfly.bandcamp.com/album/awesome-science-2Pretty damn unique, one the AOTYs
| Gnocchi http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=135558
| JamesDay Why did my review for apex of apathy getd? I also put up albums for the band, I'd like them back up now.
| CaptainDooRight check my new album bro, don't forget to rate: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=145268
| deathofasalesman Thanks man. Will check those out. And might I suggest Psychic Teen's "COME"? It's a strange album you might dig. All kinds of crazy influences.
| deathofasalesman What's some abstract but good stuff you've heard from this year. You tend to review some great hidden gems.
| Jethro42 Hi! Voivod gave me that link. Awesome prog band - http://motherturtleband.bandcamp.com/album/mother-turtle
| Mad. Awesome that you listened! At first some of the songs may seem pretty standard but the more you listen, the better they get, like Leave Something Witchy actually has an incredibly intense, powner full middle section and Nowhere to Go has some pretty atmospheric lyrics. The best tracks are the more complex ones like Mexico (very layered, great lyrics), HWY to the Morning Star (that solo makes me cry, man) and House of the Dying Sun (just all-round brilliant). Solid 4.8/5 for me...
| Voivod I will man, especially since I found out that they have a bandcamp location - http://subrosausa.bandcamp.com/. Thanks for the kind reminder.
| Metalstyles Aight, well I'd love to hear about Italy in more detail so when you get back and feel like sharing I'm all ears.
| Metalstyles Hey man, in a very long time I've got a rec for you. Try these guys out, really fuzz-ladden stoner rock and I like their new album quite a bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_WqqpbN5KY
| pribosse greg check this out bro you'll love it http://necrodogg.bandcamp.com/album/spontaneous-combustion
| Inveigh word, I've never been a screamo fan but I do dig some black metal. deafheaven offends my black metal sensibilities though
| Inveigh I think I understand why people like it, but it seems like it's aimed at trend-hopping youngsters. it's nothing overly original, just very marketable (i.e. people who would never ever listen to black metal can get down with it and then claim they listen to black metal)
| Jethro42 Hey. Do you have a torrent for Man's Gin?
| Jom Most likely this week. As you know, we are still trying to figure out the decision tree.
| VuvuzelaBzz I noticed you're one of the few staff-members(and users in general) to have rated Nothing More's debut album. You might already know this, but a bit over a week ago they released their sophomore album and it's quite an improvement in my opinion, so since you dug the first one I assume you'll like it. As one of the other people who's rated/commented on it said "This really needs to find a way to people's ears".
| xxm I love your reviews despite disagreeing with most of your opinions.so you're good.
| Brostep Haha I know what you mean. I've got two or three albums I need to review this month and am having trouble finding the motivation to do it
| Brostep I agree it's really good, and I may give it a go. Thanks for the reinforcement haha
| MrElmo Well I toke that Hawk eyes discog of course, Castrovalava is also a real good choice but I really don't know how to describe them, the mini ST is essentially instrumental and can get pretty crazy. The first LP We are Unit is the same but with vocals. Awesome band but pretty odd at times imo. Other than that haven't checked the rest, I heard humanfly was cool
| MrElmo Hey Brew is closing down and so for the next two weeks all of their stuff is up on bandcamp in "pay what you want" be sure not to miss out anything mate
| xenocide. Ciebie równie?. By?em ca?y czas, tylko si? nie odzywa?em. Mo?e by si? spotka? przy okazji Days of the Ceremony?
| Gnocchi if you need links, hit me up on fb
| SitarHero Alternatively it's also possible that California is making everyone go soft.
| SitarHero Hopefully it's just a bizarro sophomore slump. The band doesn't play unreleased material live, so I don't think they really have a sense of what was working and what was not while writing and recording TDPDH.
| SitarHero I sort of understand. There are no surprises and no instant classics, but the album's been growing on me.
| SitarHero Not digging the new AiC huh? How come?
| MrElmo Song you linked was pretty cool, I'll go read your review
| truekebabpower I'm glad you dig it. That EP is amazing believe me and I'm regretting I haven't listened to their new Lp sooner. I was hoping you would add some bands that are a bit more similar, since you seem to be the stoner(ish) rock authority here.
| truekebabpower Hey! You should check out The Botanist if you haven't yet, seems right up your alley. They seem to be criminally unknown. Here's a link to their bandcamp: http://thebotanist.bandcamp.com/album/ablyss
| MrElmo Nope haven't yet but will listen
| MrElmo Here dude you should dig this pretty hard, it's an awesome band that decided to go for a pretty badass and dirty album Heroic Dose, enjoy http://thesemonsters.bandcamp.com/
| Rowan5215 s*** man that was awesome. Thanks for sharing.
| dam
| dude have u heard the new anciients, it destroys clutch
| Yuli ah, i see. You could still eventually write a review for it if you wanted, though-- I did that for Tera Melos, because I really dig them anyways.
| Yuli hey man, I posted the new Queens album in the Upload Thread. You should review it!
| Nagrarok I didn't leave a comment but yeah I read it haha.
| Nagrarok Just leaving you a shout to say nice job on putting Beastwars in the spotlight here. Definitely one of the best new bands I've discovered this year thus far.
| Metalstyles Aight, you know, I'm so forgetful that when you see the album drop, give me a shoutout just in case, because I may very well forget about its existence haha.
| Metalstyles Hey man, Willie posted Age of Tarus' new album in the review requests section and it seems really cool. I don't have time for reviewing atm because I'm in the middle of the exam period, but I think it's something you (and I both) could really dig. Let me know what you think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bP_uxL4Ifn0
| insomniac15 Hi! Can I ask you something ? I contacted Tim Bowness of No-Man for an interview, because I love his music. He agreed and I will send some questions through mail for him to respond. Is there a chance you can post it on the blog section for me ? :D I understand I am a contributor only and I hope there aren't any inconveniences.
| insomniac15 Probably the new QOTSA will be an eclectic record. Era Vulgaris was their weakest yet, but it has some great tracks (I like Turnin' On The Screw, Suture Up Your Future, Sick Sick Sick and 3s And 7s). Yeah, Lo-Pan's Salvador was a great record and the Chichen Itza video is funny. Red Fang should also release new stuff this year.
| insomniac15 There have been already released some amazing records in the past months. However, I still wait for the new Sasquatch most and QOTSA now. From what I've read Sasquatch IV is already finished, but they haven't announced a release date yet, dammit.
| insomniac15 I was thinking you were gonna review it, but Hernan will do a great job too. Fuzzbang is really cool, I was expecting it to be a lot harsher given the cover and video. It'd sound cool to listen while driving, much like Fu Manchu.
| insomniac15 Have you heard the new QOTSA track ? It's really sweet. I'm stoked to hear Like Clockwork.
| insomniac15 My band and I have been added to the Lake On Fire Festival! I am so excited! We're gonna share the stage with Deville!, Sungrazer, Samsara Blues Experiment (if you haven't heard them, check out Long Distance Trip, it's so good, I bought the CD). I'm gonna try and get Deville's Hydra record while there. I hope it doesn't sound like bragging, I'm just happy lol.
| Voivod Found this band accidentally, I think you will dig them: http://mothermars.bandcamp.com/
| Metalstyles I do have a question I'd like to ask you, though. The main picture for the blog post that resizes itself - how do you get that to work? Because I haven't been able to. The so-called main picture at the very top I've always added manually by cropping pictures, but seeing as how all you other staffers have such awesome main images, I'm sure there's a better way.
| Metalstyles It isn't a bad idea at all in general, but the thing is, in this particular case, the audio quality was far from superb and even I as the conductor of the interview had, at times, quite a lot of trouble extracting what it was exactly that he said. That's why I wrote it down. Also, and this might just be me, but I'm afraid that people would get turned off when seeing a 45 minute audio clip.
| insomniac15 Yeah, I agree. There are some records that just get lost behind some terrible ones pushed in front.
| insomniac15 I got busy with Clutch this week, but I got the album. From your review it seems really good, as the bands you compared it to are great. I'll check it out tomorrow :D So many new records lately.
| Voivod The more I listen to it, the more it looks like a high 3.5, i.e. 3.6-3.7(tops). The press release mentioned prog rock, there isn't enough it in the record to substantiate it though. The same apply for doom. It is a cool vintage rock album from a band with a definitely positive future outlook.
| Voivod Hi Greg I saw your post about the new Purson album, it's great and somewhere in between a 3.5 and a 4. Will have something written about it during the first ten days of May.
| donovan909 I have been on here reviewing for some time! My label has released my first album and I would like it to get reviewed. I emailed the general email and got no response. I wanted to find out where they can send a copy.
| silentpotato not to generalize or anything but yeah u kno what i mean
| silentpotato laaaaaaaaaaawl i was just ****ing with you man someone told me you dont smoke weed and i thought it was interesting considering your music taste
| silentpotato we should 420 with our triple perc bubbler hash volcano bongs before we anal blast some stoner pop out the ying yang
| silentpotato do you rip the danky green purple orange kush???
| demigod! why does your join date say 69? lol everyone knows the internet didn't even exist back then. i've noticed a couple other users have that too, strange..
| insomniac15 I haven't been on Sputnik for a few days and I must've missed your Loading Data review. From what you wrote it sounds cool. I'm getting this right now. Also, Clutch's Earth Rocker is so good, I truly understand your review now haha.
| BigHans checking it out now. Its pretty solid, wouldnt say its better than Volbeat though
| Inveigh lol yeah I call it "the eternal struggle"
| Gnocchi why you no feature my list : [ sad iPod
| CaptainDooRight cool thanks bro but its actually eclectic progressive music. Check out out the last 3 tracks, there's absolutely zero dm on those, those last three tracks are progressive rock actually and I did the drums on those as well as everything else. Then if you like those try Red Sky in the Morning afterwards
| CaptainDooRight new album is done, Paper is gonna rev but feel to check it bro - http://trvth.bandcamp.com/album/black-horse-plague
| Willie Yeah. I wasn't on much over the weekend.
| AtomicWaste Thanks, man! Been pleased to see you kickin' out good stuff on the reg as staff (well-earned yourself, btw) and I'm glad to be in good company.
| robin cheers dude, that's decent of you. i'm enjoying it there, just wanted a change of pace really, stretch out my portfolio if by miracle i can ever end up getting paid for this s***. congrats on staff if i didn't say it btw
| HSThomas Hey Greg, where did you develop your love of stoner rock from? Also from your point of view do you sometimes feel you've ever overrated an album? Don't mean it to be malicious or anything I'm just curious to see what your whole perspective is on it.
| MrElmo Good review mate, the atmosphere is indeed crushingly badass, Laura says this record will be colder and darker eh? more and more psyched. oh and you could have also added that her vocals have improved a lot
| MrElmo Cool you made a track review, really excepecting this album to be one of their best, I know they have the potential to make a classic if they pushed themselves even more. (also can't wait for cover)
| MrElmo Dude did you hear the new Kylesa track? The new album is gonna be badass as f**k, you gotta review it when it comes mate!
| Voivod I'm really sorry for not noticing your post on the blog, I saw the news items on the Kylesa album page and nobody had posted it there.
| Brostep Hehe I'll get to some more stuff soon, don't worry
| Willie Nothing yet. I'll get with them again.
| SgtPepper Awesome. I'm reviewing it myself for another website I write for and I'm so pumped to hear it. I'm very interested to see what you think of it.
| Yuli Hey dude, did you get your username changed back to Greg84?
| SgtPepper Greg, I realized that I have yet to congratulate you on the promotion. You and I don't talk much, which is a shame because we seem to like a lot of the same stuff. I hope that changes though. Anyway, again, congrats and I'm looking forward to your review of Clutch. Earth Rocker will kick ass.
| Insurrection Congrats on staff! Ever since i read your KNY for some reason i knew you would get the promotion
| breakingthefragile Eh, aw well. You win some you lose some right? Title's a title anyway. Whether I'm staff, contributor, user, whatever, I don't plan on slowing down anytime soon.
