  • KevinKC Burton C.Bell released a new industrial track called "Anti-droid" slow tempo the likes of Designing the Enemy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejssq84_4TA
    March 19 02:16 PM
  • Voivod Well, that mold appears to have been broken, I'm afraid, never say never though as long as the band is active.
    February 20 06:07 PM
  • Voivod You need this, I know I definitely do: https://samael.bandcamp.com/album/passage-live
    February 18 05:22 PM
  • kildare Hey, I finally submitted that link on Reddit to my year-end list with the provocative title "Industrial is Dead?" along with your original post. Again, let me know if you want me to modify it: https://www.reddit.com/r/industrialmusic/comments/1ai7uhm/is_industrial_a_dead_genre_link_to_album_reviews/
    February 3 10:35 PM
  • kildare Certainly, that's why I want to post on Reddit. I won?t say that my own ego isn?t involved at all, but honestly I do get a little nervous sometimes about the health of the site, never mind the future of Industrial. Anyway I?m desperately trying to say that you or another editor might want to post something while the list is still featured, if that was part of the intention. If that was never on your radar I?ll post it when I can. Thanks
    January 5 08:17 PM
  • kildare I just lost my weekend, so I won't be able to post the link on Reddit if I want to respond to comments there. I wouldn't clutter your mailbox about this, but I got featured, and I really appreciate it, and I didn't want to be dropping the ball if part of the decision to feature it was based on SEO reasons of helping bring new viewers to the site.
    January 5 08:16 PM
  • kildare Last messages then I'll shut-the-**** up.
    January 5 07:54 PM
  • kildare Got it. Thanks for the editor link. Missed that!
    January 4 10:00 PM
  • kildare And I tend to think of the Staff and Contributors on this site as at least ?pseudo-editors.? Anyway, ya?ll have as much ownership in the site as the guy who pays the bills, emotionally if not financially, so giving you a heads-up seems logical. Let me know if you want to modify the post in some way, like attach an image or something (I can?t think of anything). I?ll post it in a few days
    January 4 08:56 PM
  • kildare Just giving you a head-up that I mention you in a list I just posted. I was thinking of posting a link to it on the r/industrialmusic sub-Reddit with the title "Is Industrial Dead?? That sub-Reddit is busier than Sputnik in the genre. I?m not exactly asking permission, but only because ?permission? seems to be a weird ethical/etiquette issue on this site. I appreciate the minimalist gate-keeping culture on here, but ?asking permission? isn?t weird at all in a publication with (paid) editors
    January 4 08:56 PM
  • DrGonzo1937 voter fraud! haha thanks man. merry christmas
    December 25 06:22 AM
  • Azazzel dang willdog, I see you stealth 3'ing on every metal album page this year. you on an SSRI by chance? I jest. Midnight Odyssey break into the 3.5 club for ya?
    December 19 02:26 PM
  • Titan have you listened to the new Tesseract......Willie album all day
    September 24 02:19 PM
  • TheNotrap Well, never mind, I'm all messed up hahah
    September 18 10:51 AM
  • TheNotrap Cheers, Thy Art Is Murder has been postponed to Sept 22nd
    September 18 10:48 AM
  • Metalstyles Stylistically it?s for fans of, off the top of my head, Skinny Puppy, Godflesh, Dead Can Dance (definitely some influences there although obviously Forgotten is a full out industrial band), Statiqbloom, Devil
    September 14 04:44 PM
  • Metalstyles ...and I?d love it if either you gave it a go or spread the word among the current staff if maybe someone wants to check it out. If it?d be better if I send a whole press kit type thing your way I can certainly do that, but the bandcamp link is here, where you?ll also find a short description of the band/project: https://ohmresistance.bandcamp.com/album/elu
    September 14 04:43 PM
  • Metalstyles Hi Trey, damn, what?s it been, 5 years, more? I hope you?ve been well, and glad to see you?re still pumping out reviews, which I do follow. I mean, I thought the last Filter album sucked some real hairy balls :D, but I appreciate the surge of inspiration I got from your rev to check it out. Listen, I?m trying to help out some friends of mine ? the Estonian industrial outfit Forgotten Sunrise (probably the longest active Estonian alternative band) released their first studio album in 10 years...
    September 14 04:42 PM
  • JoyfulPlatypus Yo, your soundoff on the newest Paramore album inspired me to check out Eisley. Their debut was great! Gonna have to check out the rest of their stuff sometime.
    August 8 08:45 PM
  • Tundra Yo man, would you mind deleting all my reviews please? Thanks a bunch
    July 29 03:53 PM
  • nearly746 Hi, please could you wipe my ratings ? Cheers
    July 14 05:10 PM
  • Hyperion1001 all their material is great; weirdo death with violins and progressive elements everywhere, but the newest one is more melodic and keyboard heavy. they?ve got great melodic sensibilities and the songwriting is really effective. like I said, it strikes me as something that would be right up your alley.
    July 2 04:50 PM
  • Hyperion1001 hey buddy, have you checked the new phlebotomized record yet? it?s one of my favs from this year and it strikes me as something you would very much enjoy.
    July 2 03:36 PM

  • xxm Great work on the ReFocus review. I really like your reviews.
    June 10 05:03 PM
  • bloc Thanks brother, good to be back
    May 12 05:46 PM
  • bloc01 Hey Willie, I've been away for a while and it looks like my main "bloc" account got banned while I was away. Can you unban it? I just made an alt account for now.
    May 12 03:09 PM
  • Viraemias I remember you Babymetal review and thought you might dig this new japanese metal album, Isiliel - Gekkou Souseiki: https://youtu.be/5DPwNvAKRjI

  • pizzamachine Lol I gotcha
    March 30 11:18 PM
  • pizzamachine Hmm I smell incentive. I?ll try not to disappoint.
    March 30 11:17 PM
  • pizzamachine Alright, I better have a review ready lol
    March 30 07:33 PM
  • pizzamachine I was planning to review it, but the band could also use exposure via a Willie review.
    March 30 05:56 PM
  • SlothcoreSam Hey, you heard the new Bec Stevens album? Some punk driven Indie Pop.
    March 19 01:26 AM
  • Tundra Sorry that the new Periphery album has variation unlike your beloved Pain Remains. Ok I like Pain Remains but c'mon man, 3 songs should be cut just because they add variation? I have no idea how you find Thanks Nobuo boring, it's got very similar riffs to Wax Wings.
    March 13 03:21 PM
  • artiswar i saw you mention looking for good deathcore so i recommend Fit For An Autopsy - Sea Of Tragic Beasts. that is all, have a good day
    February 10 07:52 PM
  • Atari hey can't go wrong with a NUFAN comparison! it was mostly some of the heavier somewhat metal influenced tracks that reminded me more of Lagwagon than your typical Pulley album but I'm really glad you enjoyed it. def one of my favorites from this year
    November 29 03:12 PM
  • Atari hey Willie! you ever hear the new Pulley album from this year The Golden Life? highly recommended and some big Lagwagon vibes on this one ;)
    November 28 08:10 PM
  • TheNotrap Hahah yeah, we have to stick together if we want to have a couple of metal releases in there. I'll include Lorna Shore, album rules. Is there anything else you think deserves to be there?
    November 24 03:33 PM
  • xxm Nice The Art of Survival review. Hope you?re well enough.
    November 4 02:58 PM
  • XyphDryne Thanks for dropping the comment about the news album by Die Robo Sapiens. Unfortunately, I am not a big Krupps fand and the same applies here. Itīs a weird mixture of old school EBM and these funfair synth sounds from your generic aggrotech outfit. And the lyrics are basically stolen from Nitzer Ebb. Sorry :) Nevertheless, keep em coming. Always thankful for tips. Already checked the new Noise Unit? I think it is...okay. I like Alone Again and heal all wounds (sounds as taken from Airmech), but
    October 31 05:18 PM
  • kildare Got it. thanks! Too many albums in that genre that need reviews to waste time on doubles.
    October 27 09:43 PM
  • kildare "Die Robo Sapiens": Didn't know about them. With their EBM impulses sunk into this upcoming album, maybe the next Die Krupps will be more metallic? Thanks for the tip. I'll review it unless you or someone else already had plans to?
    October 27 04:36 PM
  • KevinKC I didn't know when I wrote my comment on your Rabbit Junk review but 3 members of Sybreed started writing new music together last year for a different project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oI5CACic-SU
    October 23 12:25 AM
  • TheNotrap Cheers, when you get a chance take a peek at the sput e-mail ;)
    October 1 02:59 PM
  • Dewinged No problem man, we tried! Gonna immerse myself in the fungus now!
    September 29 11:00 PM
  • Dewinged Cheers Willie, indeed I got it at 2am here, 2 hours after it was available on Spotify hahaha. Thank you though, it does contain precious intel!
    September 29 09:41 PM
  • Jom Agreed with the below in regards to you having the muscle to do whatever you want. I'm on it, though!
    September 20 06:07 AM
  • Sowing Hey! I decided on my own to stop featuring reviews last year because the rotation just felt smoother with one person running it. There was never an ironclad agreement or anything, it just sort of happened...so I'm sure nobody would care if you rotated it in yourself either. Otherwise, you can just copy-paste to Jom's shoutbox ;-)
    September 19 06:50 PM
  • EphemeralEternity Hey man did you have any other suggestions on how to get the music to sync properly to the iphone? You seem to know your stuff pretty well
    September 17 09:44 AM
  • Gnocchi Yeah I think it was rotated through
    September 12 09:38 PM
  • xxm You have some really great reviews.
    August 29 09:04 PM
  • FreakMachine Okay, I'm asking the mods this - How close am I on this account to being banned? I feel i've towed the line recently, and I decided it's time to apologize to the site and try to be less of a bitch on here. I woul appreciate a response though because I mean what i'm asking, how close am I to it? (edit for Willie, apologies because your last 3 shoutboxes are all me)
    August 29 06:02 PM
  • FreakMachine I appreciate that and thanks for answering Willie, I honestly do just wanna behave on the site now and I hope my actions regarding arguments recently show that. I'm gonna really knuckle down and try towards that, and sorry if these questions seemed really cringe. I just wanted to know if i was viewed equally on here, or whether I should just quit whilst im ahead. Either way I really appreciate your response, its gave me something to work towards
    August 20 03:48 AM
  • FreakMachine Okay I know most of what I say gets ignored, but I'm serious here. Is there any chance of me ever getting featured, or eventually maybe becoming contrib if I really work towards it? I'm not meaning to sound like a beg, but am I just here for lip service or am I genuinely equal here with regards those opportunities? My behaviour last few days has been really whiny and cringe. Please answer this, I wanna know if it's worth trying for that
    August 19 05:43 PM
  • Voivod I think you should check this out, imho it?s up there with Jim Matheos' First Impressions: https://afsky.bandcamp.com/album/i-stilhed

    February 13 10:18 PM
  • Voivod hi, thought you should know about this, that is if you don't know already - https://damnthemachine.bandcamp.com/album/day-one
    December 14 09:38 PM
  • Sowing Feel free to add more if you like. Work has been busy so I'm not even certain if I'll publish today.
    December 2 01:08 PM
  • Sowing I listened to that Amy Shark album and it was good. Feels like a blend of Taylor Swift and Lorde but not quite as over the top. I think my favorite song is Baby Steps.
    November 24 05:26 PM
  • coneren glad to see you are still reviewing buddy hope all is well on your side
    June 19 04:37 AM
  • Atari if you want a NUFAN worship album, I'd recommend the new album by Chaser. I love that something like this even exists in 2021
    April 12 09:42 PM
  • JohnnyoftheWell Haha, I mean if the thought of me sharpening my knives spurs you on... ;]
    February 28 02:42 AM
  • JohnnyoftheWell Hmm, if I make it through the new Nick Cave quickly and feel more positive towards up, maybe - but probably not tbh, I wasn't a huge fan and don't wanna shade Anneke on the frontpage
    February 28 02:34 AM
  • JohnnyoftheWell are you gonna rev the new Anneke?
    February 27 08:17 AM
  • ThyCrossAwaits Oh man, you got me all wistful for Amia Venera again...they were all hyping up a new record awhile back and pffft, nothin?
    December 12 02:32 AM
  • Gnocchi New Arkan out on the 16th.
    October 18 08:29 AM

    October 8 12:10 PM
  • Voivod for fans of Queensryche: https://hittmanofficial.bandcamp.com/track/the-ledge
    September 28 11:10 AM
  • GamamJ Hey man, I know you're a huge Fates Warning fan, get on Sieges Even's A Change of Sense pronto. A super overlooked melodic and tastful prog masterpiece.
    September 26 07:27 PM
  • GamamJ I see. I've seen you on some of my more favourite bands actually. Our tastes and preferences seem to overall differ a good bit, but we have some common interests :D
    September 4 08:59 AM
  • GamamJ Yo dude. Over 10k ratings is truly no joke. Good job man, holy smokes.
    September 2 12:08 AM
  • Voivod Hey man, I just saw that your news piece about the Anacrusis Live Reunion DVD is not tagged to the Anacrusis band page, so it will vanish from the site, as soon as it exits the news feed on the front page.
    August 26 08:14 AM
  • Wizard Just wanted to say thank you for introducing me to The Gathering a long ****ing time ago. I've been on a huge kick with them lately. Hope all is well in your life!

  • Toondude10 Here's a rec, I feel like you'd enjoy this https://dawnofashesofficial.bandcamp.com/
    July 15 01:35 AM
  • Sowing Oh, I forgot the opener 'Damn' - that one is great too.
    June 17 01:36 PM
  • Sowing I did but I never decided on a rating. The album is pretty good - probably in the 3.5 range. No One's Gonna Ever Love U and Unlovable were my favorites, it was a surprisingly consistent album across the board. No bad songs per se, just some that stuck out less than the aforementioned.
    June 17 01:35 PM
  • JohnnyoftheWell thanks again for covering things on the blog - looks a million times better there than it would ever have as a list!!
    June 15 10:13 AM
  • JohnnyoftheWell sorry to quibble, but the typefacing on my Science Fiction blurb is a little hairy (only put parts of it in non-bbcode bold as a self-reminder to them!) and Id a decent chunk of that write-up a few days ago - would be eternally grateful if the version in the gdoc could appear on the blog
    June 15 10:12 AM
  • TheNotrap I've been receiving a few promos from several labels and there are some albums I'd like to review. As I am a contributor, it would be interesting to show my support by publishing some of them a couple of days before. Is there a way or some forum where I can ask if I can publish it (as I close reviews) or just asking you is enough?
    June 4 01:09 PM
  • TheNotrap Cheers Willie, can we publish a review a couple of days before the album's release day if we have received the promo?
    June 4 11:49 AM
  • bloodshy I'm having issues adding albums to Blake Rules ampersand Netherfriends. Apparently I having issues even saying it in the shoutbox. Every time I go to add a new album, it goes to a new artist that shows up in the search as [ampersand]amp[semicolon] version. IDK what I'm doing wrong, maybe we could change the artist name to "and" if there's no fix for it? Thanks in advance for any help!
    May 8 08:46 PM
  • BlushfulHippocrene Understood, haha. Also, holy s***, I never realised how many ratings you have. I don't even know how long it'll take me to reach 1k.
    May 1 04:43 AM
  • BlushfulHippocrene Hi, I'm 90 per cent done with it. I was planning to upload it on or right before release (May 22), is that okay?
    April 30 11:05 AM
  • TheNotrap Thanks, I'll keep it then
    April 27 08:25 AM
  • TheNotrap It isn't an official stream (from the label or band)
    April 26 03:16 PM
  • TheNotrap Cheers Willie. Please check the YouTube link I posted on my Warbringer review. Do you think itīs better to it?
    April 26 03:11 PM
  • Gnocchi Slow start to the decade too.
    April 15 06:49 AM

    March 28 04:02 AM
  • TheNotrap Cheers Willie, I hope you're well and safe from COVID-19. Yesterday morning I wrote an article about the new Oranssi Pazuzu video, but it has not been published yet. Do you know if there's something wrong with the article?
    March 25 10:46 AM
  • Gnocchi heaven shall burn thoughts boss?
    March 24 05:13 AM
  • OmairSh Hey Willie, hope all is well at your end man. I have a new Pakistani music playlist with ome stuff you might enjoy, if you're interested :-) https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=673174

    March 9 10:57 PM
  • DePlazz Willie have you ditched Apple Music yet? Cause they don't have Wormhole and neither do they have this and believe me you will need to hear this: https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/80915/Various-Artists-Drum--Bass-Torque/
    February 23 09:58 PM
  • Casavir Art in Motion's the best place to start. And yeah, I don't think Apple Music would have them.
    February 22 02:49 PM
  • Casavir You should check out Secrecy at some point. It occurred to me that I've never mentioned them in any discussions we've had that I can recall. I think they'd be right up your alley.
    February 22 02:28 PM
  • Voivod Also do I need to write a blurb for each album?
    February 20 03:03 PM
  • Voivod Ok will do, is there a deadline, informal even?
    February 20 02:58 PM
  • Voivod I've been thinking about it, but I don't have time to compile it nor I have a clear view of the magnitude or the concept of such a list. What I can and will do little by little though, is to make lists per genre, for example "thrash metal 2010-2019", "post punk 2010-2019" and so on. Decade list needs more thought though.
    February 20 02:02 PM
  • parksungjoon didnt know you were a dnb bro thats awesome

    February 15 12:44 PM
  • parksungjoon nothing, i dont think. well other than the quality of early psychotic waltz material ;)
    February 15 12:33 PM
  • parksungjoon you're a cool dude man honestly
    February 14 10:47 PM

    February 3 09:54 AM
  • JohnnyoftheWell New Anathema 5 whoop whoop!
    January 22 10:33 PM
  • KjSwantko Great great rec on Hindsight, man. Pretty familiar with Anathema but wasn't aware of this record. The strings and piano are just so dope at times. Listening again now and it'll probably end up a solid 4 for me. m/
    December 15 04:11 PM
  • Observer great album and hidden gem (mostly). Scratches that 90s alt rock the bends-era radiohead itch i constantly have
    December 14 09:12 PM
  • Gnocchi Not busting your balls young man, was legitimately curious.
    December 10 12:27 AM
  • Gnocchi Did you have a chance to check out any of those albums bossman?
    December 9 11:55 PM
  • DaveyBoy Hey Trey. Hope all is well mate. I still check in here (main site) from time to time to see whats being released and whatnot. I only listened to about 40 2019 LPs, so not enough to contribute to the year end list. Who knows what 2020 will bring, but I don't feel much changing as Im heading more and more to listening to only stuff that I enjoy, if that makes sense. From your list, I enjoyed Queensryche and surprisingly Lacuna Coil.
    December 8 06:11 AM
  • deadcrown Thanks for keeping it real dude. Sorry about the excuses. It's time to stop making excuses and start doing more. I guess I just wanted to shed light on what I was feeling. Probably was not the smartest idea to whine to sputnik about this s*** but thanks so much for listening, man! I'll be around sputnik trying to find more amazing albums
    December 3 01:09 AM
  • Toondude10 someone threw this in the Insomnium thread, figured you'd enjoy this https://shadecrown.bandcamp.com/
    November 10 11:57 PM
  • buffserker1919 Hey Trey! Hoping you can give "Passageways: Haan" by Nick Bufalino a listen. I think it might be up your alley.
    November 5 09:48 PM
  • Sowing Haha. When the internet meets the age of entitlement!
    November 5 02:19 AM
  • Sowing Check Wilderun - Veil of Imagination (currently featured in bottom right corner of page). It's like Watershed era Opeth meets something more proggy and orchestral. It's my favorite folk-metal album in years and I think you'd like it.
    November 5 01:58 AM
  • FurtivePigmy Willie if you can find out off one of the other mods how to unban and you're serious, please give skeletorissatan the unban and shout box me when it's done. I ain't pissing about on here anymore man.
    October 24 06:05 PM
  • bloodshy Thanks for that, and for all your hard work, Willie.
    October 13 09:54 PM
  • bloodshy I accidentally added the album "Burn Scar" to Squalus And Shadow Limb instead of the singular band Shadow Limb. I did then add the album to Shadow Limb as well, but I can't remove the first one that I created from Squalus/Shadow Limb. My apologies for this mistake. Are you who I would talk to about this?

  • FukkenKrist Hi do you have anything to do with approving first reviews? If so, can you approve mine - I'm an aspiring writer who wants some feedback. Cheers
    September 16 10:52 PM

  • RunOfTheMill Willie bro, the new Voivod is good
    September 12 03:26 PM
  • Toondude10 So while we're waiting for the new Soilwork record, I came across a project that Bjorn Strid just so happens to be one. Tbh, it sounds like a Soilwork B-side album/demo, but aside from the production it's pretty good. Thought you would be interested: https://open.spotify.com/album/5PjMyQ1JaPW6xCSnyNxmmy

    June 6 02:43 PM
  • KingDweedle Yeah that is certainly a lot of time for music. Tbh I've only been heavily into music for 3 or 4 years, before that I just jammed a bit of dm and classic metal. Not bm or classic metal but by any chance have you checked Antimoshiach by Spite? It's by the same guy in Horns and Hooves (who are also incredible btw)

  • TheTripP agree with your Tech N9ne Planet soundoff. I think this is one of his most solid releases in a while, but naturally people are gonna hate because he does mass produce albums

  • Sowing Considering comments aren't working on the blog, I may pass on the weekly news this week (plus today is my last day to have a chance until Mon)...assuming the bug remains, I'll do a summative post for the entire month of December and just be done with it.

    March 2 01:40 PM
  • smaugman what's up with sputnik these last few days?
    January 31 01:52 PM
  • Voivod Since I know you like Cradle of Filth, i think you will find this gothic/black metal band decent at least - http://darkportrait.bandcamp.com/album/harrowing-atrocity
    January 25 07:07 PM
  • Toondude10 yeeeeah that's kinda what it is. It's good but nothing really special. I do really like Humanarchy though, reminds me a lot of fear Factory in a way.
    January 1 04:18 AM
  • Toondude10 Did you listen to the new Circle of Dust album yet?
    December 31 01:51 PM
  • OmairSh Hey Willie, hoping I like the new POS album as much as you. How indicative are the two singles of the album's direction? They haven't really raised my expectations all that much tbh, although I'm still excited about the album obliviously
    December 26 09:04 PM
  • Voivod Read your soundoff about the new Pain of Salvation and I'm intrigued. For me, the album is already a blind purchase.
    December 19 08:30 PM
  • DuGBloodnut Would you consider reviewing The Bloodnut album for us? Stoner sludge band from New Zealand http://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=238930 - bloodnut.bandcamp.com
    December 8 02:57 AM
  • DaveyBoy My late reco is the new Birds of Tokyo LP. They had been going very soft, but their new LP brings back the relative heaviness, but with a surprisingly hefty dose of industrial, which they have never dabbled in before. Theres even a duet with Hayley Mary of The Jezabels.
    December 1 06:51 AM
  • Sniff Checked Departe, it's quite the jam. Doesn't quite reach the hights of Nero Di Marte but a good rec.
    November 30 04:02 PM
  • SteakByrnes Annisokay released a new album my dude, thought I'd let you know since you have soundoffs on their last two albums! It's really good

  • xxm I really love your Stabbing Westward reviews, just so you know. You are an awesome user.
    October 10 05:14 AM
  • Voivod Thanks for clarifying that. My general guideline for writing my previous shoutbox post, was the sticky thread in the "Review Requests" hyperthread.
    September 23 03:25 PM
  • Voivod Of course I do, but if I request them, I have to write a review for each release, right? Currently, I don't have any free time for writing a review, so in conclusion, I don't want to expose the site in any way due to not delivering a review on time. If I'm erroneous in any of the aforementioned, please let me know :-)
    September 23 04:49 AM
  • smaugman anyway, thanks!
    September 22 07:11 PM
  • smaugman wow thanks man! was it a troll? still neat tho!

    September 22 03:31 PM
  • smaugman is there any way to see who negs my reviews? even thought it's not a particularily big deal, it's still annoying that some trolls neg my reviews because they dislike me
    September 19 06:23 PM
  • DaveyBoy It took 3 or 4 listens, but that Fates Warning LP finally clicked for me today. Davey goes metal.
    September 8 11:58 AM
  • Sowing Nice work on the news. Want to just alternate weeks?
    August 18 12:41 AM
  • Sowing I can't edit other people's posts. The earliest I'll be able to post a shell is Thursday morning EST, so if you don't want to wait you can go ahead with it or alternatively you can email me the images at my sowingsputnik@gmail.com address. I don't mind whichever way you want to do it. You'll start to notice I either post on Tuesday or Thursday, which is a result of it being either a long week or short week of work.
