  • Sowing It's only from a couple weeks ago! You were one of the users I was hoping would respond. If you want to take part, shoot me an email (sowingsputnik@gmail.com) with the following details: artist bio, genre(s), band lineup, official website or bandcamp, and most recent release. After that, I'll shoot you a response with some general band interview questions. Thanks in advance, and good to hear from you!
    February 1 10:51 PM
  • Sowing I'm thinking of starting a blog series that will spotlight the musicians of Sputnik. Ideally, I'd like to include a mini-interview/questionnaire alongside song snippets and band info such as discography, genre(s), and general bio info. Let me know if you're game for something like that!

    March 29 10:39 PM
  • Sowing So just found out about bansheebeat and am binging on your albums now. Just bought Lumine off itunes so I'll start there then check out the new EP. You're ridiculously talented, keep it up.
    March 28 01:20 AM
  • Panzerchrist Hey, would you mind if I used one of your instrumentals for a track I'm working on? If not, no sweat, just thought I would ask.
    July 29 11:20 PM
  • Snake. you live!
    December 18 11:56 PM
  • wtferrothorn I saw that you're opening for Skylar Spence. That's really cool, Prom King is one of my favorite albums of the year! If only I could go lol
    October 25 10:57 PM
  • mindleviticus I just finished a tech coop position through the summer and back in school this week =] It'll be nice to get back but I'd rather just work honestly
    September 7 04:34 AM
  • wtferrothorn Hey, I loved your new album! It's one of my favorite releases of the year, definitely Top 10.
    August 20 04:20 AM
  • mindleviticus Ah... I don't take ratings too seriously on here, but my rym has a serious catalogue. I really think Lumine is a lot better than Spiral Power, it sounds super professional and well produced. Zeal 1994 is ****ing amazing and BiriBiri is like listening to an Uyama Hiroto remix of a harem anime theme song. Really fantastic stuff, definitely a big highlight of 2015. What was your gear setup for it? And long time no speak too! How've you been dylie?
    August 5 07:21 PM
  • mindleviticus your new album is kick ass btw man.
    August 5 05:53 PM
  • mindleviticus Dark Red a 4.5??! oh man... why....??!
    August 5 05:53 PM
  • Ending Never knew you were the guy behind bansheebeat (I remember when you had your name set to something like "Watashi wa bansheebeat desu" but wrote it off as some joke). Lumine is my AOTY so far. Keep it up, I love your music.
    July 19 09:01 AM
  • Trebor. Yeah I'd definitely be willing to consider it, I'll let you know when things are a bit farther along
    July 15 09:56 PM
  • Trebor. I've been wanting to ask you for a while, but I also wanted to wait cuz I asked you before for a project that fell through, but I'm writing a web series that I'm gonna be shooting next month and I was wondering if you wanted to contribute some bansheebeat music and maybe so original score, I think I asked you to do score a couple of years ago for a project that fell through, but I'm gonna finish this project or die trying. I think you said you were majoring in film score? Anyway, it's very influ
    July 15 06:35 PM
  • heyadam Hey dude, could I get your email? I'm working on a collaborative project of sorts and I'm wanting to ask you some stuff about it; I've been listening to Lumine a lot, and it has definitely helped spark some of the creativity behind this project.
    July 15 05:25 AM
  • LotusFlower Yeah, how come?
    July 14 06:07 AM
  • StrangerofSorts yeah, been able to give it a couple of spins. My ears really aren't tuned for it (where are the drones?!) but it's good s*** - definitely something to be really proud of (: The 2nd half of Zeal 1994 is just... mmm
    July 9 08:31 PM
  • danielito19 i've been producing for about half a year now, so i have some synthesis basics and such down, but I have loads of trouble finding/making sounds that fit well together. online tutorials are pretty helpful but it's hard to find tutorials for anything more obscure than the most obvious of EDM
    July 9 06:53 PM
  • danielito19 Lumine is dope son, do you have any tips for someone dipping their toes into production?
    July 9 03:48 PM
  • heyadam A few songs into Lumine and I'm blown away. Killer stuff, man. I loved Spiral Power and have definitely been excited for new music!
    July 9 01:55 AM
  • Frippertronics Sounds about right to me, man. Cheers!
    July 7 11:37 PM
  • Frippertronics yeah, I was going to start with the EPs then move onto Spiral Power and so on. Thanks.
    July 7 11:22 PM
  • Frippertronics yeah, bansheebeat
    July 7 10:39 PM
  • Frippertronics hey man, I've been seeing your project all over the site for the past year and I'm curious as where to start.
    July 7 10:16 PM
  • Gwyn. Just spend most of my free time resting at home cuz I have 2 jobs which leaves me pretty drained, barely have energy to do anything when that's done but it's temporary and they pay well so i can take it. i'll be moving from the country next year (well at least thats what weve planned)... gonna be odd not coming to the home ive been my whole life in every day again, starting over, but it should be interesting. The rest, some old. How about you? And I'll go check it out right now
    July 4 11:41 PM
  • Gwyn. ayo, it has been a while. Hey man
    July 1 09:58 AM
  • Deviant. Just got it now. Haven't had much of a chance to sit down with it, but I managed to fully listen to the first 2 tracks (and quickly scanned through the rest) before I had to jet. I'm looking forward to sitting down tomorrow with the headphones though, because first impressions are HOLY s*** DUDE. It's sounds amazing, like stupid good. Good work man, congrats

    March 15 09:18 PM
  • RadicalEd hey dude, are you still around on this site?
    March 7 10:03 PM
  • Gwyn. ay! happy new year bruh. doing good, i spent a bunch of the last few months being down bc a few long time friends passed, but recently starting to just get everything with myself together. got a job and starting in a couple of weeks, pretty excited about that - and spending all my free time catching up to pretty much everything, especially anime which i've been slacking on HARDCORE for a while now. Watching Mushishi zoku shou and Nozaki Kun. hbu?
    January 3 03:52 AM
  • toxin. well mushishi s2 and ping pong but yea wouldn't argue if you aoty'd it. watching barakamon since the reddit threads on nozaki kun compared them a lot, after one episode it's no contest tho. nozaki kun's characters were so endearing
    December 12 11:13 AM
  • toxin. any of em as glowing as nozaki? i see quite a bit of clamor for amagi and shingeki no bahamut (?) and i guess some of the continuing stuff but idk i hardly have time these days wanna make sure i'm watching something really great haha
    December 9 07:25 AM
  • toxin. just finished the 11th episode. you were right though, it only got funnier. holy s*** such a great show, so sad i have one episode left. :( any particular gems from this season? i'm just watching mushishi and f/sn
    December 6 11:42 AM
  • toxin. i finally watched the first ep of nozaki kun months after you rec'd it. wtf that was so good, laughed quite a bit and there was actually a lot of progression (in my animu???? what)
    December 4 07:46 AM
  • sixdegrees you aren't missing much lol
    November 14 09:04 PM
  • sixdegrees can't remember if you still have the Chiyo av...I miss nozaki-kun
    November 14 08:33 PM
  • Tyrael Hello Rev, since you are pretty much the sputnik anime authority I was wondering if you could rec a total noob like me some anime with really good character development/storylines (just in general, I don't really care what it's about as long as the story is good). So far I've only seen Bleach (yea sorry), The Last Airbender, Soul Eater, Cowboy Bebop and Full Metal Alchemist. I'm currently watching Spice and Wolf if you know that show (I hope its any good...). Thanks!

    June 10 08:40 AM
  • aok yoyoyo wut shud i b listenin 2?
    June 9 10:19 PM
  • clercqie Not much really. I've been too busy at uni and tbh I've lost interest somewhat to continuously checking out new releases all the time... New Swans is really good though, but I see from your ratings that you agree already on that point. :]
    June 9 08:27 PM
  • clercqie I have a Last.fm account if that counts. And if you learn to speak dutch, you can always find me on 9lives.be. :p But joking aside, no I don't have a facebook or twitter or what have you (yes, I'm one of those people). Sorry man.

    April 22 05:57 AM
  • heyadam I will for sure man - stoked to hear it! I don't know what it is about 'Tepplin' but that track has stuck with me the past week or so, that melody in the last half is so infectious.
    April 21 06:31 PM
  • heyadam I've been playing the crap out of your Spiral Power record; it makes for some really good work music for me. Thanks for the solid jamz, mang.

  • Rhyme hey rev i got the approval and i sent you an email on some important details :D
    February 18 08:56 PM
  • Rhyme great! i'm glad that i get the opportunity to do something with you! i'll talk to my teacher when i see him again to see if doing my project for your music is allowed. i'll let you know if i get the okay and then we can discuss the specifics. here's my email: edwardmanapul96@gmail.com
    February 16 08:16 PM
  • Rhyme hey rev so im doing this school project which involves helping a certain community and one of the things i thought of was doing something for your music because i really enjoy it. one thing i thought of was either make cassette tapes, make cds, or press vinyl and then a music video for one of your songs so i'll need is your permission and some feedback later on about how i've done. chances are i wont need you to do much and everything i do will come out my pocket. so may i use your music?
    February 16 12:45 AM

    January 25 05:05 PM
  • dimsim3478 Oh yeah, the greater-than sign doesn't work in the shoutbox for some reason so if you were trying to say more than "Nadeko", the rest of your message disappears after that.
    January 22 01:03 PM
  • dimsim3478 Yo Rev, do you rank Monogatari girls? Personally, my ranking goes (best to worst) Kanbaru, Hanekawa, Senjougahara, Tsukihi, Hachikuji, Karen, Nadeko, Ononoki, and Shinobu
    January 22 08:20 AM
  • Gwyn. apart from just hearing music a lot actually, I'm trying to learn how to make Hip-Hop beats and where to start, and I'm a drummer who's also begun learning to play bass. Coupled that with the fact that I just started college again and i'm really tired all the time I'm free, grrr i really wanna check it out, I'll marathon through the rest of Nise 2nite
    January 20 09:12 PM
  • Gwyn. I've been slacking off real hard with any non-music related stuff. Haven't even been able to finish Nise, ugghhh

    January 8 04:35 PM
  • Gwyn. kewl, I've been developing an interest in creating eletronic tunes/hip hop beats over the last few months, maybe do so as an official job if I can't get very far as a drummer. Anything I should know/anything you advice?
    January 6 10:58 PM
  • Rhyme thanks shes so ~cute~ tho i cant say the same for kirino
    January 6 10:02 PM
  • Ending I feel the same way. Nise- I believe is the weakest, but I still think it's a fantastic series. Do you know of any series similar to the -monogatari franchise? I've been looking, and asking around on various sites, but nobody can seem to point me in the direction of a series that has an even remotely similar charm.
    January 6 08:16 AM
  • sixdegrees noice, I really enjoyed that show. Might pick up Imocho since its just started airing
    January 6 07:01 AM
  • Ending Which of the -monogatari anime series is your favourite? I think that S2 just might be my new favourite but I need to rewatch it to confirm. Right now Bakemonogatari is my favourite of the four.
    January 6 01:42 AM
  • Gwyn. What beat making software do ya use?
    January 5 10:57 PM

    January 5 09:03 PM
  • Ending Yeah I feel you on the SHAFT boner. Monogatari S2 was awesome, and was definitely my favourite of the year. Glad to find somebody else with similar taste in that regard.
    January 5 03:02 PM
  • Ending What was your anime of the year? Just wondering because you saw significantly more than I did.
    January 5 05:14 AM
  • sixdegrees yozorafag pls go
    January 2 12:32 PM
  • Pheromone I'm quite looking forward to Space Dandy and maybe Sailor moon for nostalgic reasons but other than that I can't see myself watching too much, I think there are a few ongoing ones from the previous season (yowapedal etc.) so I'll watch them
    January 1 10:57 AM
  • Pheromone No Problemo, as I said before though, you checking out any of the current shows?
    January 1 12:05 AM
  • Pheromone Oh really? all to their own I guess.
    December 31 11:38 PM
  • Pheromone Damn dude, I still recommend you check out Afterstory they change a lot towards the end of it and I'd expect you'd get at least a little bit of enjoyment out of it, Or maybe I'm an idiot and you'll still hate it. You watching any shows from the current season?
    December 31 11:31 PM
  • Pheromone Checked your list, ever seen Afterstory?
    December 31 11:26 PM
  • sixdegrees nice
    December 30 09:27 PM
  • sixdegrees hmm off the top of my head: 9mm parabellum bullet (post-hardcore), coaltar of the deepers (shoegaze/metal/weirdness), uchu conveni (female-fronted math pop/rock). there's so many..
    December 30 08:31 PM
  • Gwyn. yea well according to sputnik some users have been here since 1969 so that's not too bad lol
    December 24 09:41 PM
  • Gwyn. Same dude, I don't really hate or even dislike anyone on here (although some people can be such douches sometimes) but you're one of the users I legitimately like. I'm just glad we crossed paths this year and not back when I first joined in, since I used to take this site way too seriously and I was such a massive tool back then hahaha
    December 24 08:48 PM
  • Gwyn. k so i won't be on tomorrow and prolly not for the rest of the day so handing out those wishes for my bros now -- Merry Christmas bruv, still crossing fingers for reaching that user top 50! m/
    December 24 06:10 PM
  • SgtPepper I wasn't really planning on doing one, but I'll try to make one after I finish my review for an album tonight. Cheers, man.
    December 18 02:57 AM
  • sixdegrees arrgh I know....stopped right before the medusa arc cuz I wanted to catch up on other stuff and never got back to it
    December 16 06:08 PM
  • sixdegrees i'm like 10 episodes behind, i'm behind on everything and the backlog just keeps piling up lol.
    December 16 05:50 PM
  • ShitsofRain Well, honestly I stopped watching Anime a long time ago and started listening to more music instead but thanks for asking. The last one I watched was Beck so if you haven't watched it yet you could take a look. I can't even describe what kind of Anime I like but as long as music plays a big part in it like in SC and Beck I'm definitely interested in it so if you have something in mind tell me.
    December 15 09:47 PM
  • ShitsofRain What does "picking up next season" mean?
    December 15 09:11 PM
  • ShitsofRain I'm all over Janelle Monae right now. Did you listen to the stuff I gave you yet?
    December 15 08:59 PM
  • sixdegrees yea. and there definitely needs to be more good horror anime.
    December 14 07:47 PM
  • sixdegrees yeah, they had a hard time finding a network to air it because the manga was such a gorefest, I was worried, but its definitely happening. oh, and thx, I cant believe it took me so long to watch joshiraku, considering I was a big SZS fan.
    December 14 07:39 PM
  • sixdegrees prob gonna just wait for the BDs, and I was just looking over the chart today, not much caught my eye but definitely plan on watching nisekoi and pupa (FINALLY).
    December 14 07:23 PM
  • sixdegrees sup man, nm. which shows do you plan on picking up for the winter anime season?
    December 14 06:38 PM
  • TMobotron aw man that just made me kind of sad lol, so many things I meant to check out but never did on there :(. That will be an awesome resource in the coming weeks though, thanks dude.

    December 6 08:18 AM
  • Yotimi Tomorrow's Harvest of course
    December 5 03:55 AM
  • Gwyn. Looking at the voting i actually tihnk you have a chance, there doesn't seem to be a lot of albums that get multiple mentions so it's kinda scattered. Oh and one more thing, this album http://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=34641 Needs attention, and for whatever reason I think you'd really love it. Plus MF DOOM is in it and I think he had a hand on the production.
    December 3 10:19 PM
  • sixdegrees hmm lessee...top 5 would be: sotaiseiriron, bloodthirsty butchers, Kindan No Tasuketsu, etsuko yakushimaru, ling tosite sigure. I mostly listen to pop/indie rock as far as japanese stuff goes.
    December 3 05:57 PM

    December 3 07:06 AM
  • Gwyn. tbh my memory is really wonky when it comes to details so a lot of these were more guesses than anything, I actually googled a couple of them to make sure I wasn't making stuff up and what I was thinking was legit lol, but I was right so it counts! and SH¡T, should've known those answer for ninetails were too obvious, wouldn't know though since by the time Okami came out my ps2 was already toasted. Oh and so what does Empress references, too vague for me to make out

  • Gwyn. Not sure about Spiral Power but I'm gonna shoot and say Spiral Power as in "Spiral Energy" from Gurren Lagann; Not sure about Tepplin either but also in Gurren Lagann there's a character called Nia Teppelin, so that?; Quickening was the literal translation from the title in the third movie the rebuild Evangelion movies, this was was easy to figure out once i found out that the sample was from that. Aaaaaaaaand I think that's all I got. So how did I do?
    December 2 10:50 PM
  • Gwyn. I'll do it if you tell me I'm right lol - Aight so Mononoke-Hime, as in Mononoke Princess, a studio Ghibli movie; Nightosphere is an alternate dimension in Adventure time; Zebesian and Sunchamber are from Metroid, space pirates and an area from Prime respectively; Magnetic Rose is one of the three episodes from the movie "Memories"; Ninetails is either the pokemon (actually Ninetales for reasons I don't remember) or the Kyuubi from Naruto; ...

    October 15 10:26 PM
  • Gwyn. Rocking dat railgun av I see. Hey man, you ever heard of this dubstep group (just guy? i dunno) called "Hackman"? I heard a track on GTA V and thought it was kinda dope, wondering if I should check it out
    October 14 09:06 PM
  • Scoot yep i think we'll bring out the best in each other's strengths. i'll fb you my general ideas for the concepts/track list. i want to name each track after a mental illness eg. schizophrenia, alzheimers, bipolar etc. as a theme. and have the feel of each track match the description of the disease...like schizophrenia would be sporadic
    October 12 09:41 PM
  • Scoot *split lol. so if you can come up with some eerie sounding synths and drumlines (just in any random order you feel like) i can chop them up and make songs out of them. what program are you using so i can get myself accustomed to the layout? i'm still using audacity and i want this to be properly produced
    October 12 04:33 PM
  • Scoot good, i figure we should release it under a different name instead of a hyphenate kind of thing since it would be a collab and not a splot. i've been studying some foreign corncepts to try and get a feel for something unique going forward and came across an old german medicinal practice called dauerschlaf. it involved using massive amounts of drugs to induce comas...sounded pretty interesting to me. and i figured that we could add some field recordings/old obscure samples as well
    October 12 04:30 PM
  • Scoot was wondering if you'd be down to do a collab. i've got a basic idea of what we could do but your production skills are ace (been jamming spiral power a lot lately) and i figured we (me especially) could both use the exposure. it would be darker than your typical stuff and more minimalistic but not too many songs, 4 or 5 for a short ep or something
    October 12 05:22 AM
  • RadicalEd Sup man. Have you checked Forest Swords LP yet? I think you might dig it a lot.
    October 4 01:30 PM

    October 2 01:12 AM
  • TMobotron Haha np man. Yeah behemoth is sounding sweet, you can hear some good recordings on archive.org because they allow for recordings, so I was a little familiar with it. It's maybe a bit too long but the climax of that is incredible.
    September 21 03:45 AM
  • TMobotron I'd have preferred one of the Slow Riot tracks in there somewhere personally, but I loved it. I love Allelujah too though. Behemoth's climax and ESPECIALLY The Sad Mafioso's were insane. Let me know if you come up here for James Blake on Oct 25th, I think me and some buddies are getting together for that.
    September 21 02:50 AM
  • sixdegrees omg do it
    September 21 01:52 AM

  • sixdegrees nice, sounds like it would be a pretty fun program to play around with. I dont listen to much vocaloid stuff except for Mikgazer vol. 1, a vocaloid-shoegaze comp from last year that was really cool.
