  • playswithpassion I will agree that I hate what drum replacement does for actually having any dynamics tho...cuz there are very, very, VERY little to none.

  • playswithpassion Yea dude, I know they def. used drum replacement. I used to play in a metal band and we went and got some pretty pro sounding recordings for our album and they used all drum replacement sounds for all of my drums but they kept my cymbal sound intact...it sucks that it loses some of the feel and authenticity but as far as making a metal album sound huge nowadays, it's the standard.

  • playswithpassion the periphery album that is...

  • playswithpassion just cuz it's faster to tell you here rather than the thread, I just want to let you know that all off the drumming on the album is indeed played by Matt Halpern and not programmed...the final mixes might have programmed sounds however, as it has become quite standard on almost all modern metal releases nowadays sadly...

  • TBliss Ha, well had to get the train last year, which was a bit of a trek, and i had to carry two crates of strongbow all the way there, which nearly killed me haha, so I hope I wont have to do that again. Our camp is always disgusting, but its all part of what makes it awesome.

  • TBliss Sounds sweet dude. I agree with the Hellfest lineup, looks so awesome. Sonisphere I reckon is looking a bit weak this year (except Maiden), but if I could get VIP I'd definately go along haha. Cant believe I forgot to mention Megadeth are playing Download, I'm most exicted to see them. Never seen them before, and it looks like this is their best line up since the Rust In Peace days :)

  • TBliss Yeah man, I'm a Download regular, and this year is looking awesome I think, pretty such just for the second stage. August Burns Red, Job For A Cowboy, A Day To Remember, 36 Crazyfists, Unearth, Coheed and Cambria etc. AC/DC gonna be a hell of a show too, alot of my friends are fanatical fans so their pretty exicted. How about you man?

  • TBliss Just realisied I didnt reply to you, how rude of me haha. Yeah, is cool to find someone not on the other side of the world! Oh, and by the way, we owned you in the boat race on Saturday ;)

  • TBliss I totally agree dude, I really think Shogun is underrated. I also thought Shattering was a awesome song. If thats the direction they are taking for the next album, then I'm definatley exicted.

  • TBliss Yeah, I thought Rise To Remain were excellent, really surprised me. Whitechapel were pretty boring to be honest, but Chimaira were pretty good.
    March 23 11:55 AM
  • TBliss Hey man, I actually saw them on Thursday in London, dont really know why I put yesterday haha. Where'd you see them? I thought they were awesome. Did you catch Rise To Remain?

  • Skimaskcheck Yeah the SR505 has pretty sweet tone control! I'm looking to get something more suitable for more mellow stuff soon though, but amp first! And yeah, good shout on the combo/head and cab, thanks for the tip!
    February 25 06:43 PM
  • Skimaskcheck Ahh sweet! Me too actually - got a little bit of money spare to buy an amp when i actually find one haha. Head cab or a combo though, i'm stuck. How much does that Hartke 2500 head go for? Haha! Fair enough, i wiiiish i was classically trained, those people are so talented! Just added you on last.fm too - 'Death ? Crystal mountain 9 plays', kind of ironic - the guitarist i mentioned a sec ago used to play that!
    February 25 05:38 PM
  • Skimaskcheck Thanks man, and good luck with BIMM! I guess it's harder in the way you have to send a CD off first, but that's all i know really. One of, actually no, THE best guitarist i know is at BIMM atm, he's seems to be enjoying it! I'm from Southampton, howabout you? And i'm playing an Ibanez SR505 atm, but i don't have a giggable amp atm, need to save up some $$$ to get something! What about you?
    February 25 05:16 PM
  • Skimaskcheck Ahh you are doing YYZ, awesome haha :) Sounds like it'd easily be good enough! I haven't had the Bath interview yet - you have to send off an audition CD first (by the end of this week, AH!), and then you do/don't get asked to come back for a proper audition. But yeah, i'm on my way to doing that. Fingers crossed they like it :|
    February 25 05:03 PM
  • Skimaskcheck Yeah, i think they just see extra scales and modes as an advantage really. What're you playing for your solo piece in the end? 'was that just "play whatever you want over this click track"?', literally that. I thought it'd be like over a backing track in whatever key, but he just told me to improvise over a click track haha.
    February 25 04:54 PM
  • Skimaskcheck But at another audition i had, the guy just gave me a 16-bar melody, in bass clef, then left the room for like a minute, then you have to play it back, obviously. But i screwed up pretty bad half way through and didn't finish it, but i still got a conditional so it didn't make a difference.
    February 25 04:46 PM
  • Skimaskcheck Hey man, is this for BIMM yep? Ermm, solo piece, solo improvisation to a simple click track, scales (i understand it's usually G Major), make sure you're confident with basic scales, two octaves up and down preferably. The 'sight reading' was done in bass clef i think - i say 'sight reading' because it was just rhythm really, not pitch.
    February 25 04:44 PM
  • Dreamsofmany Hey I really liked your pantytime list it made me umm a little sticky lol ;)
    February 7 06:05 AM
  • Skimaskcheck They're totally cool about a backing track :) just bring the CD along and it'll be fine. The theory isn't too hard, i'm not great myself and i found it pretty easy. Good luck though, when's your audition?
    January 24 07:56 PM
  • Skimaskcheck Yeah, it's probably better if you do really - easier to keep in time, and it's easier to be more confident in front of a backing track, imo anyway!
    January 24 01:46 PM
  • Skimaskcheck Yep, no modes or anything, but i'd recommend learning the scales without open strings, and over two octaves.
    January 24 01:30 PM
  • Skimaskcheck Really basic theory really - for me the guy just wrote one bar of a rhythm on the board which was like, 4/4 crotchet, crotchet, crotchet rest, quaver, quaver. Then he went a little harder and put in things like quaver rests and quaver triplets, but that was as hard as it went lol.
    January 24 01:20 PM
  • Skimaskcheck Fairplay! Good luck with it. Yeah, i played over the top of a Victor Wooten track, it went alright. Just make sure you know your scales and basic theory and you'll be fine.
    January 24 12:20 PM
  • Skimaskcheck Hey man :) haha, how cool! Brighton is my BIMM choice, my first choice is Bath Spa though. Which BIMM for you?

  • Damrod Yeah, our guitarist suggested them to me, and I really dig their album. Wish they would record a new one though
