| aaronrkc Solid record/band. More hyped on Kaleidoscope and Straw Man Army though.
| Ryus i'll assume you're familiar with jeff mills, but if not, his set at the liquid room is iconic. other than that, you'll probably like Rrose - Waterfall Variations and Sandwell District - Feed Forward
| aok when's the last time you listened to spacemen 3?
| Ryus havent heard any, really not well-versed in that kinda stuff overall. only heard the legends (fahey, kottke, and basho)
| Ryus i checked out indigesti and it was great. will need to give that one a relisten tho. ill check "wretched" too
| GhandhiLion Ah they seem like good labels to keep an eye on.
| GhandhiLion I have, I wasn't too impressed with Pedernal but I didn't give it a full listen and it was hyped up for me by someone. I remember liking 'Concentration' a while ago though. | I will check her collab with Mcphee at some point.
| Trebor. Happy to see you active again mate
| parksungjoon woah, nice! and yeah i know how it is with having to add stuff lol
| parksungjoon shockingly that maurice demo is actually listed on sput if you feel like rating it
| parksungjoon i dont usually consoom documentaries or podcasts so i tend to miss out on some knowledge
| parksungjoon its a weird thing.. you can hear some sabbath here and there, danzig (whom they knew personally and hung out with at the time apparently, toured with samhain and all), thrash metal and hints of pajo's later guitar weirdness
| parksungjoon what do you think of this https://papam.bandcamp.com/album/the-first-shall-be-last
| aaronrkc Honestly! Almost sounds like Crass meets Minutemen or Parquet Courts or something. So sick.
| aaronrkc Fr both rule. Kaleidoscope has always been underappreciated.
| SlothcoreSam Hey weepingbanana, got any recs for round 2 80-85 PUNK COMP. https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=1137253
| aaronrkc I'll give it a listen again. Kinda funny, I've had discussions with a couple other people who've been into American HC/punk since the early '10s and have at least partially concluded that a lot of stuff out right now is kinda weak in comparison. How do you feel?
| ffs good rec dude, got around to hearing their full length last night and enjoyed it. there are so many bands to check if you're into that caverny style
| ffs glad you like it man, good to see you around. i'm quite attached to this place, broken ui retarded users and all. other rev sites just don't Feel Right. just off the top of my head check out the malignant altar and blood spore releases from this year too
| jagride and of course he featured it too
| jagride yeah funny s***. i'm thinking things went south in the studio with nmh halfway through and she just drafted in the guys from black bananas/rtx without telling him. kind of fitting that the whole thing turned into a travesty
| jagride that trux comeback worked out well huh
| 731 game theory sound pretty intellectual
| butcherboy so Small World Experience are ****ing fantastic.. cheers for the rec, my man..
| jagride yea i like the diy approach he started taking around the early 00s (his 90s material is lifeless overproduced MOR). made a cool 11 song comp of the best songs from those albums
| jagride especially in the couple of albums after immaculada its like they just existed to make the most shallow approximations of canon indie/punk bands, tailor made for s***ty rock critics to go do you like _____? check THE MEN
| jagride lol yeah they were never that great but i was just thinking about how most of the good users were reppin immaculada back in the day. that was nearly 8 years ago. old man take a look at my life
| jagride remember when the men ruled these parts
| jagride i'm aware of kreuzen's influence on voivod's guitarist but yeah it's been a few years since i listened to them so my opinion ain't worth much in that regard
| jagride https://www.sputnikmusic.com/user/metalman
| jagride hmm i've forwarded your query to your musical neighbor https://www.sputnikmusic.com/user/metalguy
| jagride it's a bummer. seemed like an interesting guy too. had obviously been through some s*** over the years but was still keepin on and touring a lot up till pretty recently. his solo stuff isn't really my thing but he wasn't phoning it in like mould
| jagride you hear about grant hart? jammin his tunes today
| jagride unearthing the good s*** since '09. yea fun record, they sound like 12 yr olds but the songwriting is pretty tight
| jagride i find those last few albums frustratingly inconsistent so i cherrypicked my fav tracks and listen to them on a playlist. but when they're on they're really on and i love the concept of doing them doing these skewered homages to 70s FM radio songs
| jagride break out the trux and BOC before you record
| jagride rock. pretty cool man. guessing you're on drums? feel free to remove the post if you don't want sputnik hassle
| jagride http://i.imgur.com/iOkuVqG.png check this s*** out, it has finally become sentient, thinks i am 'ghost boy'
| jagride since you seem to be on a tardcore kick you should also listen to the gacy's place EP. reminds me of lumpy n the dumpers except from the 70s and scuzzier
| jagride they've soundtracked some poignant moments in my life
| jagride yeah i feel you. and more generally i think that's one of the things that distinguishes a lot of the worthwhile contempo punk bands from ones like the men that basically had neon arrows pointing to all the totes cool and tasteful s*** they're influenced by. it's cliche but honesty and passion go a long way
| jagride just listened to the 1st song on that album, more straight ahead rockin than most lumpy affiliated stuff. p cool, will check the rest
| jagride update: still haven't listened to urochromes. i've been bad about getting around to new music lately. check out nivana - nevermind
| jagride only seen live vids but i just started queuing 4 mental decline
| NeroCorleone80 yeah its kinda like a bridge between pass and stow and indivisible, might be my fave of theirs.
| aaronrkc Hm, I'll have to check that out. I mostly just check lots of Blogspots/Bandcamps regularly and see all those type bands when they come thru KC.
| jagride i might do the same, been trying to dig through some old french punk for some gems. don't think i've heard that particular indigesti release but i know the split with the wretched. ccmf/iri split is pretty bonkers
| jagride he rates lower than he used to but he's still doing a masters degree in jacking my punk taste. yea check it tho, the other song's just ok but just head's a garage punk classic
| jagride god that cyclotron kid hasn't hopped off my dick all year, i should get a thank u kiss and xmas card at the least
| jagride seeing as you like teengenerate, have you heard the og version of just head? s*** rules http://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=206707
| jagride file alongside gems off otherwise decent but unremarkable 80s punk records
| jagride https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dXWQZexzW9c
| jagride hand of glory is a recent obsession. hagerty is in top five guitarists and irishmen
| jagride yea i don't hate them or anything but i've been pretty underwhelmed every time i've checked them out on the back of some fervent recommendation
| jagride cant decide between adult contemporary pop punk with wind chimes or their fisher price husker du side
| jagride you listen to 56 nights yet? ds2's good but that's the one that really hooked me in, been in regular rotation all summer
| aaronrkc Hell yeah man, that album is sick. I think Drew from Brain Tumors helped release the vinyl!
| jagride aww man i like the concept of the album, "liar" and the tracks you mentioned but i find some of that s*** more grating to listen to, in a bad way, than any of their more out there stuff. twin infinitives is my kinda trash
| jagride dumb rating you know the one
| jagride the life of the music rater is fraught with pain but i console myself knowing that my 3.5s are better than most peoples 5's. you're probably right though considering how good most of those songs are
| jagride crazy start to an album. silver daggers, sewercide, accident etc are crucial too, i love that a band was writing songs like that in 74/75. god says **** you is better sequenced imo but all the comps are missing stuff/have alt versions so what can ya do
| jagride eyeball of hell is beautiful is it not
| jagride ugh yeah that is a sick ****ing lineup. addition of royal trux is the clincher. mid august's an iffy time for me due to other commitments but i'll try. was actually gonna go out of my way to see dead moon last week but couldn't make it
| aaronrkc Very damn dope. Got to open for them a couple months ago. See them live if you can!!
| Hep Kat thats pretty punk rock brAj~~~
| Hep Kat i c ur hum rating sen. v v 1337
| jagride yea enjoyable album, some of their weirder scuzzier s*** and a few poppy tunes too, pretty all over the map for them
| jagride hammerhead are cool, i also still dabble from time to time in select tracks from halo of flies, god bullies, killdozer, u-men, cosmic psychos and a little album called INCESTICIDE when i'm in that mood
| jagride gave hayseed hardcore a listen..not bad. that cherubs album was one of my gateways to all that amrep style stuff in like 07/08
| jagride you listen to upsidedown cross? ex kilslug with mascis on drums
| jagride urgh dleted your ****in message sorry. i like that album a lot, anything 3.5 plus is a big thumbs up as far as my ratings go. wouldn't put them in flipper's league but flipper are a godhead band. ishmael are new to me i'll get that album
| Hep Kat yo dude, I didn't know you and pmmets were tight like that. i am very sorry for your loss. he was an excellent kid, and you know my respect on this place is earned, not given. truly tragic news.
| aaronrkc That's dope, you know the young rocker Cecelia? That's my homie. U got a tumblr too? hahah
| aaronrkc Nah dawg, Kansas City! Boston is sick though, hope I can go there sometime. I end up in NY for family every year though. You go to shows at Boiler Room a lot?
| BMDrummer lightning bolt is the best band ever
| jagride that new boston strangler is so laughably bad. all mere amateurs in the serial killer influenced rock n roll game. i did give beasts of bourbon a respectable enough 2.5 tho
| jagride i basically grew up on them but went through a dumb phase of avoiding 70s hard rock. relistened again a couple of years back and was like oh **** this still rules. riffs and vocals too good to be denied
| JamieTwort Also sweet that you saw them live, I'd love to catch one of their shows.
| JamieTwort I like it a lot. It's about level with Water on Mars for me, I think it excels in different areas. I particularly like the slightly lengthier tracks where they allow themselves to stretch out a bit. I was actually planning on reviewing it when it came out but didn't have the time but I still might review it at some point.
| jagride should be a cool companion piece to the rudi peni albums at the very least. artwork rules too
| jagride nah but that's a price i'm prepared to pay, definitely gonna pick it up. when i looked into getting it a few years back it was oop and going for stupid money
| Jots hey, dunno if you know this trick but if you feel like bypassing the swear filter you can do this: shit
| jagride youre either gonna play the cymbal on stage for us tonight or i'm gonna take a cymbal to your lip tomorrow
| i'll level yo ass with my whip
| jagride seems to be on vol 4 although i don't remember hearing it before. guy is a master of his craft, moisturization from vol 6 made me lose it "would you try moistenin' me up?" "i would not be inclined to try that"
| eyehategod thats my address and i already checked the terlit so you cant be here
| eyehategod ill prove it what is yourr adress so i can go there and anal rape you
| porch i've heard good things but given that the guy making it had full access to the band plus talking heads like david yow and albini he'd have to **** up pretty badly to make it uninteresting to fans
| porch yea i was thinking how young slint looked when i saw that footage of them rehearsing spiderland in the basement, and they'd even been in hardcore bands before SB. i guess they talk about that in the doc, i haven't seen it
| porch http://noisey.vice.com/blog/we-chat-to-squirrelbaits-david-grubbs-about-the-only-known-footage-of-the-band
| porch chronic town for sure. dankest REM release
| porch i'd probably listen to firehose more if watt did all the vox
| porch no looks cool though, thanks for the heads up. was gonna give you s*** for rating firehose higher than minutemen but 3way tie does kinda blow now that i think about it
| eyehategod oh you know one last comment on the old account
| Atari hey man are you planning on doing another review a random album game anytime soon? Someone was asking me about it since I did one last year but I wanted to give you the opportunity first
| KILL it also has simon phillips so
| KILL definitely sin after sin, its got a few stinkers but its the most similar to those 2 albums and has a few classics, and even tho killing machine is 70s priest its like proto 80s priest its way cheesier and lamer but still pretty good you could try that
| eyehategod hes too busy with malcolm to be dinkin around in space
| eyehategod why would they want to spy on my when they are busy in space stop lying
| eyehategod how did you know that my steam name was almost that wow
| porch play some tunes from the boon and watt songbook, double nickels is 30 yrs old in july
| porch i'm like whitey bulger i can never go back to boston. does your band rock n roll
| SeaAnemone cool cool. I might just jump right into that one then - thanks! and pleeeaaasseeee listen to this band ought - more than any other day, it's post-punk, so so good
| SeaAnemone which shipping news album should I start with?
| ArsMoriendi Not everything needs a point. Plus my lists get plenty of comments sooooo it may be pointless, but it gets discussions going, just like a lot of good, yet pointless, music will do.
| mandan Also, I see that you like Melvins, I got into them recently. Bullhead is a solid album.
| mandan Yeah, definitely, they gradually turned into a radio-rock band. Freaky Styley is prob my fave album ever though, it really made a mark on me lately. But they're def not the most consistent of songwriters.
| mandan I see you're not a big fan of RHCP from Californication onwards (imo there are cool tracks on those albums, bar IWY, but they're pretty overrated on the site). I mostly like them up to OHM, after that they went gradually downhill for me. Have you heard Mother's Milk?
| oltnabrick i keep forgetting to show you cool hip hop albums from 2014 like you asked me to. heres my two favorites of the year so far, http://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=153465 and http://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=155113
| SeaAnemone wait I hope you're being relatively sarcastic haha because I'm actually so bad at spotting / talking about that distinction haha, they just remind me of Wipers
| SeaAnemone http://www.theelementaryrevolt.net/2014/03/us-creative-adult-psychic-mess-lp-2014.html
| SeaAnemone Cali punk - members of No Sir and All Teeth, but much less hxc than those bands, just some straight up energetic punx. reminds me of older stuff i.e. Scratch Acid, maybe a little post-punk?
| SeaAnemone dude Creative Adult. have you heard of them? you would totally dig their new LP if you haven't heard it yet.
| oltnabrick http://nachopicasso.bandcamp.com/album/trances-with-wolves-the-prixtape ok heres one it came out on the 1st
| Hep Kat i think ive heard that band before, they sound familiar
| Hep Kat they have a new LP from this year, but i was disappointed to find it's not on spotify yet. i havent heard the whole thing, but ya cool band
| YoYoMancuso hey dude I got White Teeth as a Christmas gift, it rules thanks for the rec
| Hep Kat http://www5.zippyshare.com/v/22614668/file.html
| Hep Kat have you heard the merchandise bbc sesh?
| mandan Well, I'm Puertorrican. Your pie chart looks interesting.I take it you don't like metal that much.
| mandan What country are you from? Also, I believe you have an interest in history.
| Kiran word thats fair, would love to see them but i doubt they'll ever make the trip out to europe!
| Kiran did you end up seeing them? jelly
| Kiran hells yeah buddy, they rule
| KILL ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
| porch gonna watch it later myself. even though i don't think their music in particular deserved to be singled out for all this retrospective rimjobbing
| porch have you seen a band called death
| Disrupt if there is one thing i hate its a black person
| porch you probably know some but i thought of these when i scrolled thru your ratings: decline of western civilization, fearless freaks, you weren't there (chicago punk), beats rhymes and life, wonderful and frightening world of mark e. smith, northwest passage (portland punk), songs for cassavetes. not sure if you know townes van zandt but 'be here to love me' is really good and might make you a fan
| demigod! yo you seem to dig Lightning Bolt a lot. i wanna get into them, where should I start?
| patrickfannon I understand how time-consuming school can be, so I certainly understand lack of leisure time to write album reviews. You're a really good writer though, I just wanted you to know that I appreciate your work. What else have you been into this year? What else do you think might be in your top five albums as of now? Hope all's well, bud. Good luck with school.
| porch all you had to say was "andcas 5.0" and i would've given this rock classic another listen with some high quality headphones
| sonictheplumber well theyre both funny british shows. blackadder season 1 isnt as great but 2 3 and 4 are fantastic
| porch saw them play and they delivered but as far as the albums go i've only heard one from a couple of years ago. new album good?
| Disrupt well im fuuckin drunk lets party
| Trebor. Give it a try. The second and third song are more like american radass style, and the last song is like the first song but good and not all post-hardcore/angsty
| Trebor. The last song on the new Dads EP is incredible
| oltnabrick http://images.gohastings.com/coverart/LRG/hastings/40219090371.jpg
| porch thanks i'll give it a spin. think i've heard some of their stuff before, was kinda wipersy
| Atari alright cool just didn't want you to think i was trying to steal your idea i just didn't think to ask
| Atari hey man i made a new review a random album game list is that cool? My bad i didn't even think to ask you someone was saying they wanted to do one so i decided to and didn't realize you were gonna be making one soon.
| omnipanzer I'll make it up to you, get this: http://optimusdiscos.pt/discos/artistoptimusdiscos/the-good-and-the-mean-2
| Mad. Ok great, looking forward to it
| Mad. Hey man, is there gonna be another 'review a random album game' any time soon? I'd happily organise it if you're too busy or whatever like curse did
| porch i dunno it was just some random asshole, i'll check them out
| porch hm yeah tbh i remember just avoiding them after someone said they were a poor mans hot water music, and if that's the case i'm leaning towards dislike cos i'm no fan of hwm either. maybe that comparison was off base though
| peaks40 saw raising Arizona. was hilarious
| SeaAnemone ugh you might be totally right about that future islands record... listening to in evening air right now and it's SO GOOD
| peaks40 lol yeah i'm gonna watch raising arizona very soon. love dem coens lol. yeah, i agree with you that he's pretty fearless, but i find this about most actors, when they work with good directors they look better
| peaks40 lmfao really? top ten fav actors!!?? lol okay thats funny. I've seen clips of the wicker man and he was unintentionally hilarious
| peaks40 still gonna watch the movie, it's about laura before she dies right? and dude your avatar is creepy. he's really good in wild at heart though
| pmmets07 http://methmouthpv.bandcamp.com/this is hard af
| JumpTheF**kUp i read one of channing's old user report card lists haha. didn't even realise you were still around.
| JumpTheF**kUp holy s*** dude didn't even realise you were zepdude until just right now
| JamieTwort No I haven't, sounds sweet, I'll check it. Thanks for the rec.
| carouse Thank you for the compliment, dude. Glad you dig that album too, it's spectacular. In truth there are definitely many more albums that I would put on the same level but I simply have not taken the time to rate them.
| SgtPepper I bookmarked their bandcamp. I'll listen to them tonight. Thanks for telling me about them.
| coneren thanks i liked your post i will tell rob to go on my account and do my vote for me sometime tonight clim is gay he wont even play ps3 with me
| porch haven't grubbsed in a long long time
| WashboardSuds yea its a lot of fun, I look forward to more in the future if you plan on continuing it
