| Asura14 Just read your soundoff on the new AB, unfortunately I'm in the same place as you with the band. Was hoping you'd review it, your AB reviews as well as "All I Was" were some of the first reviews I read in sput
| Kalopsia i'll be expecting your review of Myles Kennedy's solo album soon after it's released :)
| Sowing YES. That's awesome. Things are great but pretty busy for me personally...you? You should totally review the new Alter Bridge. I have the power to feature it now. ; )
| Gmork89 Check this out https://hardrockdaddy.wordpress.com/2014/08/22/sahaj-ticotin-covers-queensryches-the-mission/
| Sowing Sweet Sufjan rating. Album's incredible.
| Handyman003 What are your top favorite tracks off the self-titled Dream Theater album from last year? Mine are the first two tracks, then "Illumination Theory".
| Sowing Yeah those were great times. I feel if I joined the site now it would be a lot harder to get acclimated to the community. And those Swift/Office days were classic.
| Sowing I completely understand, sometimes the users here are awful. But I'm glad to hear you're doing better. You were always one of my favorite people here to talk to.
| PistolPete Check out Leprous' album Bilateral if you haven't yet. OmairSh actually recommended it to me and its fantastic. Little weird at first but brilliant
| Spec You're a nice fellow I miss you.
| Sowing Thanks man, same goes for you. And yeah, I got tired of the immaturity too. It's not the reason I'm leaving, but it definitely got on my nerves to have to sort through pages of pointless comments just to find a relatively respectable user worth conversing with. Anyhow, I hope you are having decent luck with jobs, life etc. and hopefully we'll chat sometime. Take care.
| OmairSh I like your new ADHD rating
| PistolPete hahaha enjoy! that's one of those bands I wish I could go back and re-discover again cuz it was such a journey getting to know all their albumsI'm liking that dream theater album, it's got that nice variety I like (some heavy, some nice and chill - just like PT)
| PistolPete Yeah trying Panopticon is the best start with them, their older stuff before that is "sludgy" and not too accessible. I hated Oceanic for the longest time. Hahah yup they had the best crack at passing Chevelle of any band I've listened to. Also...Clutch's new album is amazing hard rock you should get into them if you haven't, they're brilliant.
| PistolPete I'll check out that Buckethead album, thanks a bunch! For Dream theater I obviously went with Scenes From a Memory. They remind of Riverside so much haha (Dream Theater was their influence right?), I like the longer songs better than the shorter ones surprisingly.
| PistolPete For ISIS that's a tough one. I started with their most popular album (at least with sputnik) Panopticon. That first song is heavy as hell so the first listen might be a bit much but after you get used to it it's beautiful music. And if you like that one I actually went to Wavering Radiant after (not Oceanic like others would say). I gave Wavering Radiant a 5, soooo yeah lol I liked it even better than Panopticon and I just took off with them after that. They are my second fave after Chevelle now
| PistolPete That was a sick list man, there's a few bands there I've been trying to get into for ages (Buckethead and Dream Theater) but I put it off because their discography is so huge and daunting and I actually don't know where to start no matter who I talk to. Lol but you and I will forever disagree on Hurt, I still can't get into them and I've heard Vol 1, Vol 2, and The Crux now.My vol 2 list will definitely have more Isis, PT, and Riverside for sure those three bands I missed a few on.
| OmairSh I hear ya about the writers block, 4 months and counting
| OmairSh Yo whens your ADHD review coming?
| Gmork89 Yeah it wasn't what I thought it was going to be but I ended up digging it anyways. Quite a few tracks I jam regularly.
| Parallels Yeah i've decided I'll never pick up that DT discog again. I really got to hand it to you for that accomplishment Ties. I was so jelly about you writing such good reviews. so jelly. so very very jelly.
| bloc That is a very good point I never gave much thought to. Riverside absolutely nails it when they slow their tempo down but I can see them being pretty hit or miss when the band goes fast and heavy.
| bloc I've always seen the band's albums as equal. Not that they all sound the same or anything, but Riverside was one of the most consistent bands I've heard (of course ADHD was a little heavier etc.). I am just hoping I will soon see their new album as an equal too, which I am hopeful about.
| bloc Me too man, me too. I am hoping more listens changes things. I've only given it one tbh.
| Emim Yeah dude, i probably won't be on til after twelve though
| Sowing What the hell. I thought I had it more private than that (career/job reasons). Oh well, I was going to find you anyway so cool.
| Sowing I have a real Facebook and a Sputnik one. I'm friends with tons of users on the Sputnik one, but only Knott, Rudy, seaanemone (Eric), and waior on my real one. I wouldn't be opposed to being real FB friends but it's up to you.
| Sowing I've been really good for the most part, man. Got the girl I've been in love with for 5 years, still don't have the best job but it's something to keep me afloat for now, been playing a lot of Madden 13 and doing a lot of sputniking in between hunting for a better job. How've you been? I know I joke around about you not getting on here, but usually that means you have something more important going on
| Sowing I forgot to answer your question in the Anberlin thread, but my favorites off the new album are little tyrants, self starter, and type 3. I also like modern age but I don't think it's as amazing as everyone is saying.
| Sirob ****ing love that song, just thought id tell you when i saw your username
| Sirob ONE LAST HOPE, TO RISE AND BREAK AWAY, ABOVE THE FADED LINE
| DaveyBoy Saw your comment on Potters Field. Probably why we may feel different about the newie too.
| DaveyBoy Most likely. The constant release delays were annoying me. I think I expected a little more because of that. It may be difficult to write about, since the album is pretty much as expected. Just a little more nondescript maybe.
| DaveyBoy So, initial thoughts on new 12 Stones. It is not a 3.5 for me.
| Gmork89 I agree, it will be interesting to see just how heavy the album actually gets. The drummer he recruited seems to be pretty awesome.
| Gmork89 Thanks man, I'll check it out after work. What did you think of the clips from Tremonti's album?
| PistolPete I may or may not have found my next big prog addiction. Have you heard "The Octopus" by Amplifier? It's a brutally long 2-hour double album, but tbh there isn't much in the way of filler it's a bit shocking. It's very heavily influenced by Porcupine Tree and Oceansize. Also...good to see you're warming up to Oceansize. I've been blasting "Frames" a lot recently.
| TheSpirit Nice to see you posting a bit more dude, this site needed it's defender of rock back
| Sowing Just read it now. Pos'd and commented :]
| Emim my internet is acting up, we'll have to postpone for a bit. we have a guy coming out soon (hopefully)
| Sowing Sweet. Maybe we'll agree this time unlike with AB
| Sowing I have it dibbed in the staff forum ;)
| Activista anti-MTV nice dig, that's why I came here today. Also, nice profile picture!!!!!!! Personally, I have had 3 alts, jusst myself.
| Emim If my internet is feeling up to it; let me check and see
| Emim That's probably my favorite Thrice release. Title track is gold. Hope I get to see them this summer
| Emim Yeah I was surprised at how much I liked it. Had to rock some DC Talk for a while though
| Emim Yep ;) d/l'd it right before I went to sleep and listened a few times today. First impressions are that it's really good. Sitting at a 4 for the moment, probably will stay there.
| Emim Yeah, definitely looking forward to it
| Emim Oh wow, didn't know they had three songs out already. Gonna listen to Worlds now
| Emim Hey, did you hear that new song 12 Stones posted? It's pretty sick (no pun)
| Emim Sweet, dude, got a link to the room?
| Emim Yeah, dude, that should work fine. Not sure how late I'll be able to stay awake, but looking forward to it!
| Emim Lol, I know how that works. I've been trying to be good about it lately, since I have to be up early, but every now and again I'm up til 2 or 3
| Emim Probably the best room I've been in so far was one where it was just Inveigh and me. I usually stick to the metal rooms since they have decent populations, but the few rock ones I've been in were cool too. Anywho, we'll have to set aside a time to rock some jams. You're usually on pretty late, right?
| Emim Heck yeah, man. I saw that you popped into that one room for a second, but it was glitching up anyways and not letting me play anything (turntable is really finicky with my internet)
| Sowing Yeah, it was a 4.5 for quite a while. When something is that good for that long, the emotional attachment is bound to occur and raise it to a 5.
| seedofnothing Oh yeah right on, the chick from Paramore. She's actually pretty pretty[yeah I said that twice lol]
| omgraptors Hey, just wandering what is that album on your avatar.
| dante1991 Hey dude, really enjoyed your DT reviews, great job :) Although I have to say I disagree with your ADTOE rating, but to each his own :D Ever heard of a band called "Threshold". They're a cool prog metal band and it'd be wicked if you did a few reviews for them, they need more support on here.
| bloc When it comes to progressive rock or metal the only thing that makes or breaks it is the vocals for me. However, it seems as though the vocals are pretty sweet on this so consider me thankful : )
| pizzamachine Thanks bro, you know I'm gonna listen to it. :)
| Sowing i seem to remember your review being pretty good, i even asked for it to be flagged. i guess when they staffed me it became the default again along with a bunch of others that i noticed
| Sowing the intro and conclusion are okay but the body is like, "then this track is all slow and good, but the next one isn't...and the next ballad is a beauty to behold...then OMFG crows and butterflies" and yeah I was a lot stricter about my ratings back then...which I'm actually trying to get back to since now I'm staff and I have to have standards again
| Sowing if that was the first review i read here i would have never come back
| Sowing dammit that thing reared its ugly head again? haha...damn first reviews
| PistolPete Thanks I'll check that out! It seems like these days the only albums I rate over a 4 are from bands I've already checked out releasing new stuff. I can't find any new bands worth the time, but if this sounds like Deadwing I'm expecting to enjoy it. If you haven't already checked out Oceansize's full discography, I would try the album "Frames", it's their best IMO and you seem to like prog.
| Parallels I used to despise 'Blind Faith' and now it's just perfect
| Emim hahahahahahaha. I want to do that
| Emim I loved the mall cop sandwich part
| Emim Ah, probably because it cut off part of the address... Um, it's called "Big Box Shenanigans"
| Emim http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded
| Parallels I told you! Awake never gets old. I also think Six Degrees is every bit as good as Metropolis Pt.2, which many would go berserk over. I find myself always playing Lines in the Sand and New Millenium as well.
| Parallels Yeah, I don't watch TV hahah. On a different note, I'm going to do Dream Theater's discography... backwards. lol Yeah, so, competition or something.
| Parallels So I just realized your avatar is Jim Halpert. Yep.
| Yuli I know what I mean, and I feel the same way. WIll Ferrell's character was just trying to be Michael Scott, and it turned out to be pretty s***ty. Plus the writing has just sucked; last season's finale made me so mad because they went absolutely nowhere with it, Jim was just stomping around complaining because they didn't decide on a new boss..
| Yuli Absolutely. ..however I do feel like his character has gone downhill in the past couple of seasons :( the show has lost its edge lately, I think.
| Yuli I tend to agree with your opinions on music a lot of the time; however, I must confess that it's likely because I picture Jim saying everything you type, and I'm impartial to him so that may indeed be the cause...
| Sowing yeah it started as a 4, worked its way up to a 4.5 for me. I don't think it will ever become a classic just because there are certain EPs that clearly lag behind in quality...but it is easily one of the top 3 albums of 2011
| DeadStarShine Please tell me you don't believe 'Better Days' and 'Lie To Me' were recorded before Dear Agony.
| Emim lol, I didn't escape the horrors of fast food; I work at In N Out, which admittedly is a pretty great place to work. I still hate working with food though.
| Emim Ha ha, awesome. Where you working? Speaking of which, I need to get to bed; I work at 11 tomorrow.
| Emim Dude, you just described my summer to a T. I thought getting a job would give me a life...
| Emim lol, I wish I could like them as much as you do, bro. How you been?
| bloc I hear ya. Riverside just hit the right spot when I first heard them.
| bloc Gah, that is a tough one! If I had to choose it would probably be Out Of Myself but seriously it's only by a hair.
| Paradiso your reviews rock man, keep 'em coming!
| Romulus sending celebratory shoutbox posts to everyone involved
| Emim Now it just needs more Teehee Rainbow Stab
| Emim Screencapped for awesomeness
| Emim lol, don't thank me til you've heard them
| Emim It's kind of hard rockish. I think you might also really like Boysetsfire - The Misery Index: Notes From The Plague Years
| Emim To Lose a Name?
| Emim That is a welcome surprise. HAve you ever listened to Unjust -
| Emim Yeah, it's pretty good. Dunno if I like it more than than the last EP though.
| anarchistfish hey have you ever listened to young guns? they seem like something you might like
| Parallels whats your favorite Fates Warning song so far?
| DeadStarShine Oh. Didn't see that. Already digged 'The Bends' and will dig 'Ok Computer' in the future. Love Radiohead btw.
| Parallels Don't be discouraged young padawan. lol
| Lakes. can you actually listen to it and give it a legitimate rating? don't make me 1 alter brodge on all of my alts
| Lakes. you didn't listen to it did you
| Romulus sorry for the delay but thank you for the link. have a late pos; i love how there's a consensus on the best two tracks
| Sowing it was?? i had no idea, either that or it subconsciously influenced me
| Emim Ahhhhh, thank you for reminding me. I've been meaning to check that out forever
| Emim Our worship band was just a guy playing the guitar and singing, a spur of the moment girl singing with him, and me playing the conga and *trying* to sing at the same time. I loved it. As for worship music, I've been listening to Newsboys quite a bit.
| Emim I really like the Bends too, probably the most actually. I just got back from our youth group's beach camp in Capitola, so I'm in a very worshippy mood. From the Inside Out by Hillsong is soooooooo good.
| Emim Yeah man, Ten is awesome. Radiohead is ok (computer). Right now I'm on a worship song kick and loving it, honestly.
| Emim lol, yeah. For some reason it only is putting the numbers; I have all the right track names.
| Gmork89 Awesome man, I really like that one. Let me know when you put it up.
| Gmork89 Those are definitely the ones that jumped out at me the quickest, especially Bastard. The rest will grow on you though without a doubt. It takes it's sweet time but it will get there.
| Gmork89 Hell ya dude, I'm glad you finally looked into it. I never get tired of that album even a little.
| Kimm Yeah I definitely have it in a bunch of my lists. Love it!
| Sowing thanks, i knew you'd find it awesome
| Sowing im gonna review shinedown's new live cd/dvd this weekend. i figured you needed to know this.
| Baphomet HOLY.LIVING.****. You just made my day... I knew 5ing al those Enrique albums would eventually pay off.
| DaveyBoy Haha. Dont know what made me listen to her. To make matters worse, my Lastfm scrobbling has not been working for the subsequent albums I have listened to. Not sure why actually as everything seems set up properly still.
| Baphomet If it makes you feel any better, I just realized my musical neighbors are the worst ever.
| Baphomet come on bby, forgive me. I already bought you a ticket to Lima. I've schduled a dinner under the stars.
| Baphomet You see right through me! Actually, it was because I was afraid you would stab me in the back with an Emery shaped knife. 4.5 times. Or maybe it's cause I'm an oblivious douche and forgot at that time but would really like to add you to that list...
| Sowing yeah man. the whole thing is cohesive, powerful, and mind-blowingly meaningful
| Sowing you are making me proud. just .5 more and i might shed a tear.
| Emim Never really listened to them enough to make a decision. Inveigh recced them to me a long time ago and I guess I never really got around to it.
| Emim I like them alright, but I never really got into them. I like the cover they did of Hurt though.
| Sowing they are kind of like brand new, but it depends a lot on which album you listen to because each one is pretty different IMO. their older stuff is more gritty and rock-ish, their newer stuff is more smoothed over and calculated (but somehow actually better). Their new album is "simple math" and, it is probably as good a place to start as any...this is the link for the title track if you get curious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkkeHpzs0lI
| Sowing so have you listened to the new Manchester Orchestra album yet?
| pedroia55 "Who died and made you The King of Limbs?"
I'm still laughing(:
| Emim Yep, I do the same thing a lot of times. dredg comes to mind.
| Emim I've only heard a couple of songs from their two latest albums (after they lost their bassist), and those were both from Light Grenades (Dig is a sweet song imo). I like their first two albums, but there isn't as much stand-out material as Morning View or Make Yourself. Plus they're more in the vein of nu/funk/alternative metal than the more straightforward rock. also, I'm going to hit the hay...
| Emim Probably Under My Umbrella (love the drums), Blood on the Ground or Aqueous Transmission. Those are all pretty much tied. Have you checked out Make Yourself yet?
| Emim Oh, no problem man. Sharing is caring ;)
| Dylan620 Yeah, Cyanide was the reason I de-5'd it in the first place. Haven't listened to it in forever though; I'll do that now.
| Dylan620 Sucks about Shinedown, I never really would have expected them to grow off of you. As for PT, I've been rec'd that one before, but was - admittedly - too lazy to give it a listen. And I loved "Blackest Eyes" when it played on music choice; I'll give it a spin. And I see you 4'd the new Foo Fighters! Nice move, I'm freaking loving that one right now; it's better than TCATS, IMO.
| Dylan620 The Sound of Madness isn't a 5 anymore... I never thought I'd see the day. So what's up? It's been a while.
| DeadStarShine I've listen to one of them, I think I told at the time. They're good, gotta get more into them though. Now I pretty much can't wait to put my hand in Parades, which Dave advised me to listen. Oh and I see we have the same opinion about RED's newest.
| Emim I haven't listened to it quite enough to make a decision on that.
| Kimm I'd rather have no friends than pass up a chance to defend the gospel.Still, pearls and swine and whatnot...
| Kimm I know I should...it's just really hard when someone says something and I don't respond because then they leave with the satisfaction of believing I just didn't have an answer. =/
Are you a Christian?
| fr33convict you have to change your avatar to match mine it's important
| Sowing Definitely know what you mean about that...One for the Kids' Struck and Rough Draft, Ocean Avenue's Way Away and Back Home, Lights and Sounds' Three Flights Up/Title Track and Holly Wood Died, and especially Paper Walls' The Takedown and Title Track. Honestly I think that's part of why the new album brought the meh's for me. "The Sound of You and Me" is really good but only if you closely follow the lyrics, then "Be The Young" sounds like any other song on any other album...
| Sowing glad you like it...to me it is their best, but it is also the first YC I heard and kind of set the tone for the other albums. Basically every song on there is a hit. But yeah Paper Walls is good too
| bloc I know I know I feel terrible. It's not bad at all but it just doesn't hold a candle to any of their other albums. I'm hoping I'll like it more with more listens, which tends to happen with Emery.
| Sowing Thanks for the vote btw. I'm looking to sneak into the elite 8.
| Sowing Make Ocean Avenue your next priority
| Sowing new YC or old YC? The new album isn't as good as a lot of the stuff they have done IMO, but it is still a fun listen and kind of nice for nostalgia's sake
| Emim Alright I'll check it out.
| Emim I used to listen to that song daily when I first heard it, so so good. I still need to hear Clayman, especially since a lot of people consider it better than the Jester Race. Oh, how is Revolutions Per Minute? Worth getting?
| Emim Oh yeah, I think the song with the female guesting is Reflect the Storm or something; that one is good too. I'm not a big fan of his screams either, I mostly just like the guitars.
| Emim Yeah, man, Come Clarity (the song) is just too awesome. I like Take this Life too, but those are really the only songs I'd go out of my way to listen to off that album.
| Emim Ah, cool. I still haven't been able to check out AC: Brotherhood yet; maybe I'll wait til I can get it used (read: cheap). And you took the words right out of my mouth about GY!BE. It's great background music, but I can't sit there and consciously listen to it, especially when the tracks are 20 mins long.
| Emim Ha ha, cool. I probably won't be on for a few days. Do you mostly just play Reach? And btw, I thought GY!BE was much ado about nothing.
| Sowing Yeah I didn't know how into/not into post-rock you are, it definitely takes a certain type of listener to appreciate it. For me it started as something odd but intriguing, couldn't tell if I'd love it or hate it. Then by the 2nd/3rd listen everything came together and I realized it is one of the best albums I have ever heard.
| Metalstyles Well, my favorite by them is Statement which is nu metal at its purest. But maybe the best place to start is Recoil. I'm pretty hungover so at the moment I can't actually find a way to correctly express why, but I just think it is haha.
| Sowing saw that you haven't heard f#a# yet when you posted in my thread, i think you would love it
| Emim The Minora - Imago one? If so, yes and it's pretty awesome
| Emim Ha ha, color me completely unsurprised
| Emim Man, if they took the best songs from each of their albums and put them on one they'd have a classic imo. I have Rapture as my ringtone now lol
| Emim Yep, I did mean Alive, dunno why I said Satellite. I really only listen to Wars, Got Jealous and Pills on GTTM
| fr33convict Yeah but that's what itd to when I had 8 reviews and since I wrote two since I'm going to lose my awesome site rank once its. Oh well it's not like it's important.
| fr33convict When I had like 5 reviews and you had maybe 10 or 15 I was gonna make it my goal to catch up with you. That did not work out at all. lol
| Emim I haven't heard Clayman, but you should like most of Come Clarity. And as for Hurt, listen to Dreams Away off of GTTM and tell me that isn't the riff to P.O.D.'s song Satellite
| Emim Oh heck yes, it's probably one of my favorite songs ever. Take This Life is good too (and Reflect the Storm), but it is a lot heavier. And lol at you reccing Hurt now. Such a good band
| Gmork89 Good call with Hurt man, wow, very good band. Thanks for recommending them.
| Gmork89 I never have before, I will look into them though for sure, thanks man. Now that Summer might actually be here I could use some good rock.
| fr33convict ah ok. i was gonna say i'll remind you some other time but then i remembered that once it releases in a month or so it's gonna be all you hear about.
| fr33convict Have you heard the new PTH album? It's awesome. Like for realz.
| bloc Good to know man, be sure to check out their new albums as well.
| bloc Are you mocking me by giving Fortress a 4 and Carving a 4? ;)
| bloc I'll be honest with you; I've listened to way more bad albums than good in my lifetime so when I learn that I have to give yet ANOTHER 2/5 it just pains me. I used to be super strict when I first started out on Sputnik but now even if I don't like single song on the album I'll still give it a 3/5. It's complicated.
| bloc Haha, How did I know you'd go for that argument? I only 3'd it because otherwise you guys would be like "this prolly sucks" but BWAHAHAHA I HAVE BAITED YOU TO LISTEN TO THIS DUE TO MY RATING. Gonna put the actual rating now...
| bloc I knew you'd like it because I hate it ;)
| bloc Btw, check this out, I think it might be your thing. http://www.mediafire.com/?takecn65i5qbf5n
| bloc If Alter Bridge ain't do you REALLY think YOU are?!
| Emim It grew off me pretty quick, but it's definitely still great for a listen now and then
| Emim HELLLLLLLLLLELELELELELLELLLLELEEEELELLLEE BENT ONNNNN HEAVENNNNNENEEENENNNNEEEENNNN
| Emim Wow, did not see that one coming
| Emim lol, it's definitely better composed than my crap. And I see you're listening to Protest the Hero...thoughts?
| bloc Me likey. At first I thought it was going to be some pentatonic rape, but it's pretty diverse!
| Emim Coolio. I'll upload mine eventually, but my internet's really slow for some reason, and I just found out they're like 40MB each.
| Emim Ha ha, you should totally upload it, bro
| Emim Yeah, actually going back and listening to them, there are some parts that are pretty well organized, but the thing on the whole is rather spastic and cobbled together. Plus they're all like over 7 minutes long, mostly because I didn't have anything else interesting to do in that computer class.
| Emim lol, awesome. Consider yourself bumped, good sir. I think I actually have some crappy "music" I made messing around on Garage Band. I suppose I could upload it as an album on mediafire or something.
| fr33convict I'll find some stuff. Typing a rough draft tonight then am gonna give it to a few people for advice, make some changes, and post a review which will probably get completely ignored.
| fr33convict I'm actually gonna take my time with it though. Bad joke reviews are terrible. What's the most horrifically pretentious review you've read on this site?
